Welcome to the USS Midway Museum, an incredible historical attraction located in sunny San Diego, California! As a first-time visitor, get ready to embark on a journey through time and experience the fascinating world of naval aviation.
The USS Midway Museum is a retired aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1992. It was the longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century and played a crucial role in various military operations, including the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.
As you approach the museum, you'll be amazed by the sheer size of the USS Midway, which stretches over 1,000 feet in length. It's like a floating city, capable of carrying thousands of sailors and dozens of aircraft.
Upon entering the museum, you'll receive a warm welcome from friendly staff and volunteers who are often retired Navy personnel. They will provide you with an audio guide, which is like having your own personal tour guide, sharing captivating stories and insights throughout the exhibits.
Once on board, you'll have the chance to explore over 60 exhibits that showcase the carrier's history, including the flight deck, hangar deck, and numerous interior spaces. The flight deck is particularly impressive, offering breathtaking views of San Diego Bay and the city skyline.
You can walk around the flight deck and see an impressive array of aircraft, from World War II-era planes to more modern jets. Some of them were used in actual combat, and you'll learn about the heroic efforts of the pilots and crew members who served on the USS Midway.
Don't miss the opportunity to step inside the aircraft and get a sense of what it was like to be a pilot during intense flight operations. You'll be amazed at the precision and teamwork required to launch and land aircraft on a moving, confined deck.
As you explore the hangar deck, you'll find more exhibits, interactive displays, and even flight simulators that allow you to experience the thrill of flying a fighter jet.
Throughout the museum, there are audio and video presentations, as well as personal stories from veterans, adding depth and emotion to your visit. The USS Midway Museum is a living tribute to the brave men and women who served their country aboard this magnificent aircraft carrier.
Before you leave, be sure to visit the gift shop, where you can find unique souvenirs and memorabilia to remember your visit.
Overall, the USS Midway Museum is an unforgettable experience, offering a hands-on journey into naval history and providing a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who served on this legendary aircraft carrier. This reminds me of Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. I grew up there and loved going to Fall River. They have JFKs PT-109 there, plus a battleship and a sub. The Whaling Museum is close by, as well as a smaller museum. I love it there! My dad was Navy.

What a great tour. Not sure how anyone could have gotten a good nights sleep on those beds, especially in hot and humid conditions. Must have been brutal.
