Lyrics:
When I hear the raindrops comin' down it makes me sad and blue
Was on a rainy night like this that Flo said we were through.
I told her how I loved her, and I begged her not to go
But another man had changed her mind so I said goodbye to Flo.
Alone within my cell tonight my heart is filled with fear
The only sound within the room is the falling of each tear.
I think about the thing I've done, I know it wasn't right
They'll bury Flo tomorrow, but they're hanging me tonight.
That night he came and took my Flo and headed in to town
I knew I had to find this man and try to gun him down
As I walked by a dim cafe and I looked through the door
I saw my Flo with her new love and I couldn't stand no more,
I couldn't stand no more.
I took my pistol from my hip and with a trembling hand
I took the life of pretty Flo and that good for nothin' man
That good for nothin' man!
I think about the thing I've done, I know it wasn't right
They'll bury Flo tomorrow, but they're hanging me tonight.

Marty wasn’t just a singer. He was a folklorist. A crooning balladeer of old.

Music like this just doesn’t exist anymore
a damn shame we don’t got more people like this. and without a good tune i don’t know what i’ll do.

I love how Marty Robbins sings a song but also tells a story in his songs.
Used to be how every country song was
Yeah like bill cosby said, its how country was written before it hit that country pop/rock and whatever rubbish is out there.... even australia had only story tellers for country music now i guess the tables have turned
Yeah I love those songs

One of the greatest men I’ve ever met was my step-dad. Mother was evil, but Smitty was amazing. He loved me, I always knew this to be true. I was nine years old when he came into my life. I was 35 when he departed. The good news was mother (small “m” intended) died ten years earlier. Smitty loved story tellers and Marty Robbins was his favorite. In 1976, when I met Smitty, I was nine, and into KISS, Queen and Thin Lizzy. But I loved Elvis, the Beatles and Johnny Cash. But I’d never heard of Marty Robbins. Smitty had albums and 8-tracks of his music so I gave a listen to most of it but only really dug Marty Robbins. Great voice and stories. I miss Smitty.
Bless you friend
Smitty sounds cool as FK.
Smitty sounds like he was an awesome dude!

Have you ever listened to his actual record? I find vinyl to be far more beautiful than the remastered when they removed all the crackling and backgrounds stuff.
Buying this record for $14 was one of the best purchases I ever made.
Love this album.

Great lyrics and great story
There in the description XD
You can tell this person runs like a right gran ‘cause his extra chromosomes slow him down
You can feel the burn of whiskey and the sorrows of the heart in this song for every man ever cheated on by the woman he loved.

I'm 30 years old, Marty Robbins is such an underrated singer IMO.
How he conveys a story and the emotion with his voice, its pure Art.

Get well soon
I just found this record in the dollar bin, what a find but this is no 1$ record the songs in this record are priceless and beautiful, all time classic by Mr Marty robbins
This record with a sleeve retells for 30 to 50 bucks good find
Marty Robbins is one of of those singers who you never appreciate how technically good he is until you try to sing his parts and you realize the voice he had.
There will never be another Marty Robbins. He was one of a kind.
I had the privilege of seeing Marty perform a show in G.R. Michigan some forty years ago. He was as humble as he was a magnificent singer. He gave us (as I heard he often did) a much longer than planned performance. He has always been a favorite in my family.
Grand Rapids Represent!
Wish i got to see gr back then
The thing I love about this song is that I see it as Flo maybe just lost her love for him and found her true love. Then the main guy just shoots both of the lovers but we’re all really still by his side. It shows the many ways people can experience the exact same situation and all of their feelings are just.
it is really sad to think, but you're right on this
???? No not really. Just because a girl doesn't love you anymore and leaves you doesn't mean it's just to kill her and her new lover
It kills me the pain the final verses transmit. Beside the regret he feels for killing her, but more importantly - the sadness he feels for not being able to see her lowered in her grave. And the way Marty says it, it shows he feels it too. The clenching of the teeth one feels when he realizes there's nothing he can do.

Marty Robbins was my late mamas favorite singer. El Paso her number one. Hearing his music brings such sweet memories.

Best song on the album by far. I love this track
Harry indeed big iron is my favorite
The way Marty brings that cowboy sadness in his songs really gets me that long wind like ending to each ending
This is one of the most beautiful songs to be written in any genre. So real so personal it’s like reading an affidavit.

I can be in a perfectly good mood, then this song comes on, and I IMMEDIATELY START LOOKING FOR THE WHISKEY

Lots of 50s, 60 and 70s music. I grew up loving every genre of music and more today, through to Punk, Metal, Jazz and Funk. I had a great start with music. Fond memories. Awesome.
After having lived this song in my own life (without the murder part), I don't just listen to it normally. I understand it
The hardest part of living this scenario is trying not to also do the murder part

This will be the third Marty Robbins songs I work up and perform for varied audiences. I love introducing folks to Marty (or songs they haven't heard) to his masterful ballads.
Marty Robbins was a true artist...
I remember the first time I heard this song. I was listening to this whole album after hearing big iron from fallout.
I love how this song tells the story In a unique way. It really has changed my thoughts about those who kill their ex lovers .
Around the same time I heard this song, my town had a murder incident where a man shot his girlfriend because he had cheated on him. He was eventually caught and convicted, but it’s weird to think of him as the guy in this song.
Everyone in my town sees him as the devil, but I feel empathy for the man in the song, who in a way is the man in my town.
