Very simple & straightforward, common sense video. Can't thank you enough... & a trip to the hardware store is better than a trip to the shop/dealer...

very helpful video, thanks for posting.
To make it very easy to recover the pieces, just put some paper or rags in the bottom of the door after removing the panel. All the pieces just fall onto it and when finished, just pull the paper or rags out.

Thank You for the video.....I used a metal handle and it took about 30 minutes to remove and replace But while putting the tools away I couldn’t find my flashlight.....you guessed it ....I looked down the lock knob hole and there it was shinning away....another 15 minutes to retrieve the light.....lol.....Thanks again

This ultimately was a two-man job. The work was completed and this information was very helpful. Visibility was a little more difficult. You need a headlamp for visibility and patience

Very informative video thanks man. Iv got a 02 ranger that the exterior handle was broken when I bought it with a piece of bailing wire hooked to the inside handle through the exterior handle hole with a metal ring attached to open the door 🤦. I'm not sure why they did it but, it looks horrid lol. There where no rods or anything left which, brought me here. Again, thanks for the helpful video

Ok....finally figured this out. I have a 2007 Mazda B2300. Last week the plastic door handle broke on one side, the plastic arm that the rod is hooked to. I removed the door panel like in the video, went and got the pinhead bolts and nylon nuts plus some washers for each side. Trying to knock the center pins of the rivets tho was a huge undertaking in that one pin wouldn't be pushed thru. I had to crimp the 4 flaps on the inside closed and push the rivets out that way from the inside. My big dilemma was in trying to remove the little plastic clip that holds the rod, as the old one came apart in my hand. Also unable to see much didn't know on mine that the plastic clip part installs on the end of the rod. Big undertaking in trying to insert the plastic clip into the latch hole bracket first then after inserting the rod into it trying to move the clip up to clip onto the rod. Turns out was easier to just install the clip fully onto the end of the rod then insert the whole thing into the latch hole/bracket. Many hours today trying to figure this one out. Video did help, but it didn't show where the clip mounted and again found out mine installed on the rod end, etc. Torx head pin bolts and nylon nuts worked great once I got the stubborn rivets out, heh.

To me, It makes more sense to use bolts instead of rivets. It is much more simple if you need to do it again. On my 89 ranger it's the plastic clips holding the rod to the handle that like to break.

The thick metal wire has an end on lower left that actually fits into a hole on the up/down door latch. This info is not on any if these videos!!

I think 1-1/4", but you could use shorter. I just had some on hand that worked.

    • @KorysRides

Local scrap yard. I have no idea where to get a new one. The last ranger was built almost 10 years ago, and it's not like it's a classic that people are making reproduction parts for. Ask a Ford dealership otherwise it's off to the scrap yard

Good video, but it would be nice to see how the control rod fits into the door handle on one end, and the latch on the door jamb on the other. Looks like my clip broke off on the latch end. Now I'm trying to take the latch off because it looks like the retainer clip broke. If course, Ford decided to use "torx" bolts, and the head on one of them immediately stripped, so I've got to drill that out and get a "normal" bolt (Phillips, flat head, or hex head) to replace it. Speaking if which, why do they attach the handle with rivets? Door handles inevitably break and need replacement, so why not use removable hardware. Rivets and Torx bolts. Idiots.

They don't care about you, they just care about moving it down the assembly line as quick as possible, and it making it past the warranty period.
