  • I supplemented my trusty RØDE VideoMic GO II for the Hollyland Lark M1 - but was it a mistake? The Lark M1's compact size and decent audio quality caused me to purchase the original model, but some quirks had me eyeing the NEW Lark M2. In this video, we're putting BOTH mics to the test and even comparing them to the RØDE!
Disclaimer: There are none. I purchased this one with my own hard earned cash.
    Expect a DEEP DIVE into:
    - Why I chose the Lark M1: Size matters, folks, especially for run-and-gun creators!
    - Lark M1 flaws: Spoiler: It's not ALL sunshine and rainbows.
    - Lark M2 first impressions: Is that a MICROPHONE or a BUTTON?!
    - Side-by-side audio comparison: Hear the difference for yourself.
    - The VERDICT: Was the upgrade worth the extra cash?

The Lark M2 is pretty great sounding. Thank you. I am going to put that in my cart! You are AWESOME!

Hey, Nate! I really think you will like them. Like me, your videos will benefit from the ability to move around and you'll save some bucks over the Röde brand and I love the button shape. Those big bulky black boxes on folks always looked awkward. Let me know how you like them and when they first appear in one of your fine videos.

I just got the M2 as well, and I really like it. My only issue is how hot it is like you mentioned. The gain knob is nice, but when I use it with a phone, I don’t have that option, unfortunately. Otherwise, it’s great! Nice review!

Interesting that the gain knob doesn't work with the phone. I'm also probably going to modify the levels in my ATEM mini rather than use the knob. I think they're great too and thanks for watching and the comments! And BTW, just subscribed to your channel! Looking forward to digging into some of your content. Seems we are both at round the 6K sub level and growing. Great to meet a CZcams colleague and peer.

@@retroCombs Awesome! Thanks for subscribing and checking out my content! It’s great to virtually meet you as well! I enjoy your presentation style! By the way, I did find a solution to my own problem after a little searching - apparently there is an app for both iOS and Android that allows you to set the levels before recording! And the best part is that these levels persist even after putting the mics back in the case. Pretty cool! The app is called LarkSound.

Any deals to be had on your M1 set now? 🤣
    Nice shirt!
    Nice A/B/C comparisons.
Would be neat to see what you think comparing the on mic noise reduction versus using voice isolation in davinci. Of course that doesn't matter during livestreams.
M2 has the edge I think. Nice new tool for your production toolbox! Enjoyed it!

Using the ATEM, I can tweak the levels and sound but not noise reduction. I don't think I'll use noise reduction. I can tell a difference in sound that I don't like. And I've even turned off voice isolation on in DaVinci Resolve lately. I find both seem to make me a bit muffled.

Your S's sound distractingly harsh to me with the M2. Almost like the whole thing is going through an aggressive compressor or something. If you're looking for a video idea it would be interesting to record "she sells seashells by the seashore" and do a frequency analysis of each. Do you hear that or is it just me?
