I bought and installed a much heavier and bigger shop 4-post lift. I don't have cars to store but I work on all my cars so I made a wood and unistrut platform for in-between runners that I can remove by myself which created a mezzanine for my wheeled portable tools I use less frequently like table saw, chop saw, welder. It takes only a few minutes to move the stuff off into another bay. Then I can go to work on vehicles on the lift. It's worth it to me to not have to slide around under vehicles on the ground and other than time I got a 12K lift installed for $1200. It is not pretty but it is in good shape.
The lift also works as outfeed table, workbench, loading dock, truck topper remover, etc. The only annoyance mine has is one corner is trapped by a shelf so if not all the way up or down you have to squat under or go around, small price to pay.
You made a good choice. With a single car garage door like that you can mount the standard opener to one side and it will lift the garage door, be careful with the shaft type, any kind of malfunction as it wears is a much bigger deal.
Just the solution I was looking for. I have already done my door and opener, but was worried about my ceiling height. Mine is 10’8” so this is the one! Great vid!
Glad I could help!
Very cool, definitely makes sense for your setup!
Thank you !
Nice video! After a lot of research I went with an Advantage SS-11000-WD. I do not need air to release the mechanical locks, and I greatly prefer the stability of the outside post design. But I use my lift to work on vehicles, not just for storage, and I needed to be able to fit & lift my Ford F450 Diesel 4WD Crew Cab dually pickup which is a beast. The 240 volt 11000 lifts it very quickly and with ease, and is very stable, even when lifted to the very top setting, which btw is way over my head. My home shop is 16 feet tall at the sidewalls, and my doors are 14' tall and 14' wide. Loved your out takes at the end!
Wow you’ve got some nice garage space! I wish I had more ceiling height.
@TommyLGarage yeah, it's my dream shop, built it when I bought my retirement house & property. It's 40x60x16 with one 14x14 door in the front, another 12x12 door in the front, a 12x12 in the back (can drive straight through) and two man doors, one at each end on the long side facing the house. Very sweet setup...
Great comment about being careful with lowering vehicle assuring all sides were coming down together. I was replacing a timing chain on a vehicle and the stars lined up. Had to put vehicle in neutral to rotate cv shaft for clearance to get timing cover off. I raised and lowered the vehicle a few times getting at fasters above and below. Mind you vehicle was on a jackstand on drivers side with no tire so I could gain access and rotate axle shaft. On the final drop of vehicle I was concentrating under the hood for next steps not realizing rear to posts were still engaged. Once the front end lowered enough the vehicle rolled off jackstand and off the hoist and into the shop riding the brake rotor across the cement. Talk about a missed youtube moment. Of course tools and fasteners scatters to places never to be found. Had phone on the rack of course and it was pleasantly ran over. So much for gorilla glass. Glad it was my vehicle and glad the loss was simply a phone and my pride.
Wow!! Glad the car stayed on
OMG > "off the hoist and into the shop" >> how high up was hoist ?
Great video and the garage is looking awesome!
Thanks!!!!
Looks great, awesome install! I wish I had the ceiling height to add one but best I can do is a quick jack!
Thanks!!
Great explanation. Super helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Dziki! I do zobaczenia niedlugo!
I had the same experience. 10 feet, 6-inch ceiling, replacement of the overhead garage opener with a side mount unit (LiftMaster in my case), rail replacements, and so on. The major difference, I selected the Benkpak two post lift model XPR-9-LP. My goal was two fold, vehicle storage as well as the ability to perform suspension work with the wheels free and more access to the underside of vehicles. The only other difference, the safety release is cable actuated rather than pneumatic, thus no need for a compressor. Having four cars in a three car garage is wonderful.
Question. When are we going to see TLG mudflaps for the F90?
F90 TLG mud flaps are ready!! Email me! Got6Speed @ gmail . com
This is my plan too, great vid!
Thanks!! Let me know how it goes
This looks pragmatic, aesthitically suitable, the brand is reputable and it appears to be safe enough. If you can afford it, this is what I'd get. Good video Tommy.
Thanks!
Warto było to oglądać dla ostatnich dwóch minut 😂
Reszta to dodatek :)
Hahah dobrze że do końca doszedłeś! Wiele ludzi nie doczekało.
makes perfect sense if you have 45k subscribers ;) Seriously - as usual, a really fine video. Not applicable for my house, but really cool to see what's possible, and the REAL cost of membership.
Thanks! It’s such a cool gadget
Good vid. Many things to consider when buying wow
Absolutely! But it’s such a good investment
All I have to say is you must have a very understanding wife. Cars and car related things are like a drug for you. I couldn't predict where this is going in 5 years.
She’s the best! Next big plan is a track car. 2 years from now
...and with that you'll need a trailer, tools, and a reliable towing vehicle. @@TommyLGarage
end of the vid was THE BEST!!!!
I installed a lift very similar to yours. The garage door modification is called a High Door Conversion. It requires new spools, going from tension springs to torsion springs. If you got that done for $800 that was a smoking deal!!!!! Most garage door installers have no clue on how to do it. If you google High Door Conversion a supplier has details. Again messing with garage door springs can be very dangerous so I suggest finding a "professional". I bought a cheap Chinese model (Greg Smith). It works flawlessly. Chinese know their welders suck so easy solution use 10" of weld when 1/2" is required. Ensure you get a lift with ladder bars that are infinitely adjustable. Two reasons, you don't loose 4" in height to release the lock and you can fine tune the final height. Very important when ceiling heigh is limited!!! My lift doesn't use a compressor for the locks just a simple lever works perfectly. I stored a small boat, jet ski, 911 on mine. I bought my greg smith for $2400 now I think they are much higher. The runway with cylinder is what weighs the most 300lbs? I used a little engine picker to lift it and worked perfect. My lift came in steel box, you would have to use a fork truck to unload or take it apart on truck. I sure truck driver would love that, lol. Final word get a bigger garage, all the near misses I have over the years weren't worth it.
Bigger garage is not an option for me unfortunately:(
Great review
Thanks!!
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Garage goals 👌👌
Yeyyyyy
Great video. I gave me a lot of insight on what I need to plan for. Can you tell me how wide your garage door opening is? I've got a one car garage that is 8 ft wide and I want to make sure this solution will work.
Glad it was helpful! My garage opening is also 8 feet wide.
pretty cool. im very tempted
Do it!!!!
Thanks for the vid! You didn’t mention the posts. Are they bolted down to the concrete or free standing in them?
No they’re not bolted but don’t need to be.
Haha the bloopers at the end got me good. I can relate!
Haha thanks. Someone watched till the end!
@@TommyLGaragemake it two! 😂
Of course it make sense. I always want one but my garage is small and not tall enough.
Question: did you have to drill and bolt the four corners to the ground?
No drilling needed. I’ll just put rubber pads on it
Thank you Tommy to continue to post helpful info without being tacky. lol
Thanks for the love !
Great video I’m definitely going to get a lift for our C8, incidentally my wife and I laughed hard at the end of your video 👍
Haha I had to put the ending there.
Great video
Thanks!
Very nice! Any precautions you had to take on concrete floor depth?
Thanks! No the 4 posts don’t require any special flooring
I have a very similar lift, installed with a friend who’s a bit more expert than me. Similar raised garage tracks and side mounted motor, too.
I just don’t have the pneumatic brakes, they look like a useless complication to me. My lift has a simple mechanical lever to disengage the four primary locks (there are also secondary locks that engage as safety if a cable snaps)
The brakes give me the extra peace of mind honestly
the ending was magical.....
Glad you liked it. You redeemed yourself.
Going through the same decision process right now T - regarding using the lift for service, are you going to get one or two of the lift jack sliders for wheels-off work?
Yes. Will get the slider eventually.
Great vid! Do you need to bolt the posts to the ground or not necessary?
Not needed. But I might do it
Also Makes oil changes easier to do
does this lift have the ability to hack up the car to rotate the tires? i think some lifts have an add on
Great call!!!
Can you remove the middle and work on the car from underneath? Can you further lift the car with carjacks while lifted?
Yes you can. There is no middle. And yes you can lift it with jacks.
Thanks a lot.
Most welcome!
How many times did you hit your head before you gave up and put foam on it? I'd keep doing it for months until finally admitting to it.
All it took was one hit! :)
I like the blue on that Bmw ❤
Thanks me too!
This is fantastic. I was looking for a solution like this, but then i realised, I'm not loaded 🤣
Lol
This is awesome, I have same 3 car garage, however ceiling not tall enough… it’s around 9 feet, raising garage roof and ceiling I think it will be $$$$$…
How about lowering the floor ??
@@TommyLGarage I don’t think so it’s possible, since my driveway already in slope…
Is there anything to protect the car on the bottom from oil leaks from the car on top?
Yes. It has optional drip trays
This make perfect sense u out of the way with two cars wife can’t complain lol
Haha she better not!
How thick is your garage cement pad?
Not sure. Never tested
Doesn't the concrete need to be at least 6" thick?
Only if you’re bolting in a 2 post
If you don’t mind what was the grand total all in?
Around $10k
Mr. Car guy, you did ALL of that and don't have 220-230 in your garage....? Thanks for the great video, I'm nearly purchasing a 4 poster today. What's great about it is the consideration for all the xtra costs and garage mods necessary. (But, seriously, mini-splits, big power tools, 230 all the way.)
Actually I do - I use it for my car charger
It looks nice but no height limiter is ridiculous. It should be even on the cheapest lifts. Do they give a warranty if the litf would fell on the car below?
I know. Caught me by surprise too. And no warranty like that
@@TommyLGarage hope it will be ok and You will be happy with it. Its a dream garage (even without Your cars). Greetings from Olsztyn :) pozdrowienia!
@@hosemarian siemanko !!
Dream garage
You’ve got a solid one now too!
Don't you have roller garage doors in America?
We do!
Add a light beam and it will cut the power before the car hits the ceiling.
Wholly molly!!!
Haha
How much was the lift setup?
I literally talk about it in the video lol
What’s your ceiling height?
10.5 feet
How much is installation?
Literally the topic I reviewed in the video :)
Step one for me is to buy a home lol and todays market makes all of this a pipe dream sadly 😅😢
These rates are absolutely insane.
Fancy. What do you do for a living?
I’m a transponster
What was the total cost?
$6k or so
@TommyLGarage Thank you
I surprised the trucker was willing to wait for you yo hand unload the truck. Benpack is about the only lift that uses air l
Release for the locks
Air release is a great safety feature for sure
👍👍👍👍
Yeyy!!
When I tried to buy a lift for the lift (gives you the ability to swap tires) they wanted to charge $750 "freight charge" to offload it from the shipper.... what a scam
What?’ That is so insane.
gotta pay to play!!
True!
Holy BALD, did you ceramic that thing?
Stop talking about my penis
You defininitely need that protector so you don't hit that huge head that you have. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Huge head, small penis.
What else you got?
why's it a no brainer?
Why what ?
more complicated and expensive than expected. as always with car stuff.
So true
Why complicate your life. Just sell one of the two cars. For example, the yellow one, (to me), hahaha...
I mean everything is always for sale for the right price :)
So total you spent $10k. Thats alot
But it’s so cool!
Cheaper solution get rid 90% of the crap u have in your garage and yo will be able to par easily 3 cars and saved thousands and thousands and help decrease carbon emission.
I’d like to SPEND thousands to decrease carbon emissions
Carbon "emissions" 🤡 😂
looks like you lost a lot of weight
Good eye!
Stop calling them brakes. Bendpak has air locks needing compressor above like 80psi to disengage. They save your life. Even disengaged car comes down in very controlled manner. You complain alot about cost for 300k in two cars. You really need minimum 12 ft ceilings for your high lift bendpak thats what you paid for so you can walk under it and get out without hitting your head. Im 6’4 and can walk under it. I have had two of them
Once again - what did I do wrong?
Ironic that you did not mention the "REQUIRED" platform stand reinforcement points (called pilings) due to the insufficient weight bearing of 4" of concrete. Garage looks F'kn Awesome though.
Those are only required for the 2 post. And I have 6 inches of concrete
@@TommyLGarage IF you think so. Please advise of your Civil or Structural Engineering License. Otherwise, one night you will here a very loud collapse and thos nice lil Porsche's that ya got will be trashed relics.....GUARANTEED. And 6" of Concrete is insufficient to support the load FYI.
The dude I'd obviously showing off his cars. He clearly has money. Put up a pole barn on your property or move to where you can put one!
Explain yourself
Add a light beam and it will cut the power before the car hits the ceiling.
Great idea ! Any idea where to get one ?
