- I bought this Suzuki Katana for 150 dollars and I am going to see if I can get it running. I believe all the smoke is from the previous owner letting it sit on its side.

Adjust the valve clearenses, that thing is not running right, and it could damage or even destroy your engine.
First thing i thought of too, I'd get the timing chain , cam, valves, new seats, a piston and rings in her first.

@@hook86 they stretch and wear especially if it's an old one, all new components at the same time insures equal wear and tighter fit. I gotta watch this vid again lol edit; yeah and theres a tensioner in there too slack adjuster.

Piston rings, bearings, you can hear the knocking first time you started the bike. Also, tune those valve clearances.

looks like it has some kind of problem with the pistons rings maybe sometime they stuck if they sit for too much time.. try to ride it for some days.. if you still have smoke then throw it
Dont u have a table in your carage ? fix those carbs on the table dude. btw the engine is actually broken. bearings are gone and also valve job must be done, with new parts / gaskets/etc.

Oh good lord, just as a general rule when I hear metal on metal clanking coming from the internals of the motor it's time to shut it off not rev the piss out of it bud. I can appreciate that you got it to run though.

Nice work, well done for trying, I fear most of your work is still ahead of you though. Sounds rough to me not sure you were thorough enough with the carbs. Good clean and balance needed.
Main bearing is gone you can hear the clatter in the lower of the block
'Ran pretty well' - or rather it may run pretty well after it has new main bearings, a rebore and new pistons, valve clearances set properly and carbs rebuilt and balanced. It sounds like a bag of spanners and smoked like a chimney.
Tank coating. Cockpit fuel refurbishment. Deep clean carb needles and jets included. If you eliminate airbox you nave to carb reject (oversize)change hexaust into Slip on . Check ignition does it works properly? Check TPS (throttle position system)It seems poor in lightning..or out of timing..May Be coils or plugs wires ....too Rich air fuel ratio or pistons rings out. Check compression.....carb allignement..... I bet you'll get it

Do you not know how to clean a carb you have to clean the jets to not just the bowl of the carb
I did, I just didn't show it to save time. The jets were so bad from 1988, they were stuck in the carbs, so I used a guitar string to clean them out.

@@NoBrakes not good enough, if they are that dirty, or you need to take them out, and clean the damn carb completely in the ultrasound fluid thing, or you renew all those jets, etc. After a longer time, they get difficult to clean.

Good job to get the old girl running. 👍You may get even better results with the original air box. Although the pods you installed look much better I found in my experience you have to do a lot of fucking around with the needle settings in the carburetors with the pods fitted to get the engine running smoothly.

I believe the oil you put in it was a little light weight. You still need to clean the jets if you didn't already . also the oil you drained out looked as if it had gas in it. You might have a head gasket leak, or you might just need to be sure your carbs are not leaking around the rubber , if they are it will pull in a lot of air and it will pull in more gas than it needs . Sounds like it. If it is getting to much gas that way sometimes the gas will wash down the cylinders and will fill the crankcase. Little things.

I hope that you did more to the carbs than just drop the bowls and throw them in chem dip because it sounds like it’s not running strong at all, lack of fuel
Theres many hidden passages in CV carbs if the bike does not run smooth and flat out I suggest learning about the constant velocity carb. If it runs as it should that’s an awesome deal you got there keep wrenching partner
Piston rings are probably bad, so,its causing it to smoke and lose compression. Which is why is also why it would die

You might as well grab every seal all the way to the jugs,pistons and all. Carbs needs tuned a little bit probably jets, and new coils and wires is always a plus. Lol

You should of left the stock air box because you didn't jet the carbs. It will run to lean and not right.

How come you only cleaned the bowls of the carbs , you should have just put the floats and jets in the cleaner and wiped or sprayed the bowls out , doing how you did it won’t clean them just FYI
I cleaned the jets. they were stuck to the carb from sitting for so long. So I couldn’t get them off, and i cleaned them with a wire.

Suzuki Katana?? That doesn't look like any katana that i know of. Ok I googled it and it would seem that for N America Suzuki stuck the Katana name on a whole bunch of bikes that weren't Katanas. :-)
Sounds like you need to change the housings 💿 on your mufflers they must be looking like somebody ran em over with a tank by now that’s why the jittery sound 🤔 I’m guessing thats what happened with my Motorstar Well ll 125 engine sounded kinda quakey like earthquake quake plus the timing sounded a couple of notches off very up and down sounding. It’s all better now it looked like it had a deep dent and a curved hole on it on one corner.

Whatever it was....is no longer init.....dude those rings and bearings are shot. I can hear that crank about to go.... please do yourself a favour...strip it down and rebuild. Those bikes are getting scarce and would be worth a few pennies when done properly.

I admire your efforts and fortitude.
Lots of people meaning well, but no one mentioned 1 of the first items to address on that bike, namely the automatic cam chain tensioner. A very poor designed and PRONE to fail item. NOTHING you could do to make this bike run properly if its frozen broken, or not tensioning at all. If you are serious about riding this one day, replace the tensioner with a MANUAL CAM CHAIN TENSIONER FROM A.P.E. They're available directly or even on Ebay for about $60. Get a gasket too for another $3. 2, 6 m.m. bolts with 10 m.m. hex heads to remove the old one and follow the instructions to replace it, simple. Adjust according to directions or CZcams videos. Will it cure burnt valves, worn rings, bad valve guides, absolutely not, but it's a must do, if you're keeping the bike and expect it to run properly. Yes I do this for a living, and race SUZUKI GS and GSXR.
GOOD LUCK, OH AND BUY A SERVICE MANUAL, IT'S A MUST AS WELL. 🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍🏍 by the way, I have a GSXR1100W in my shop as we speak. The Automatic tensioner failed, and the cam chain is wrapped around the bottom gear of the crankshaft, the engine cases are luckily not cracked but it's still a small disaster. I'll guarantee the engine sounded a bit like yours before it's demise.

This is the kind of bike you pull the throttle on til it pops (which is more of a question of when than if, I think). That clanking actually kind of concerned me though, you ever dig deeper into this thing or just sell it for what it is?

jou dont have fuel with those filter and open exhaust you need at lest 140 or iven higher main jets allso you nead to increase pilot jets chech compression and sparcks boots that all of my problems on my gsxf1100

i forgot to sead you need to whash your carbs in ultrasonick cleaner mashine with proper solution

If you need help let me no carbs need cleaned blow out jets with air drain gas tank you need air to blow out main jet tube unscrew them and blow clean out idle circuit and put togeather make sure spark restart
