It's about time someone made the headunit as close to a DSP as possible. They could also eliminate the built-in amp and add more rca channels and higher output voltage. Seems like that would be the evolution of headunits
For real! My Kenwood eXcelon headunit has high voltage pre-outs but limited tuning capability. We need more AudioControl level DSP functions in headunits.
@@bassfan71 it's coming. I don't want a stand alone separate DSP. I want a good headunit with all that functionality and enough control that I can get it to sound great. This seems like it might be enough to do the job for me.
Alpine had the opportunity to provide the market with digital out equipped headunits. They had the PXA-H600 which is a very powerful DSP that’s more than usable today. But what did Alpine do? Only offered digital outs on ONE DVD HU and the F1 status HU. So basically their stance must be that they don’t want customers to have a digital out unless they spend over $1000. And that was back in the early 2000’s but ///Alpine never delivered even though the PXA-H600 and subsequent PXA-H601 was below the price point of the F1 components. Basically Alpine has always had their heads up their asses since 95% of their headunits couldn’t ulitize all the features of their DSP units.
@@Assimilator702 I sure as hell wont pay 1500 for one of these headunits. My 80PRS was like $600 years ago and it's still kicking today so it's staying in service.

I owned a pioneer stereo in my car for probably about seven years, and I finally bought an alpine and I can say my Alpine was tremendously better. Sound quality way crisper I was amazed plus the Bluetooth works incredibly easy with my iPhone 14 connecting to my alpine . connecting with the pioneer. It always gave me trouble trying to connect to the Bluetooth with my iPhone.I got some alpine R series front speakers with a separate Tweeter and they sound amazing

Those green buttons always identified an Alpine deck from a distance and looked cool too. Would be nice if they made a comeback.
Those new Halo headunits are ALMOST perfect. We just need an optional digital output (with variable volume control), and the ability to tune one of Alpine's many DSP's directly from the Halo screen.
Ya except $1500 for a headunit, plus another 300 for dash kit (the Maestro one is the nicest but also the most expensive for my car (Focus RS)

Alpine had the best cd players. The laser processors would work with scratched disc. Thats how I tested them. They also had 4volt low output lines. Best for amplifier efficiency
Pioneer and Alpine are my go to headunit. I usually end up with Pioneer because I like the button layout and esthetics better on the Pioneers most of the time.
Around a decade ago Alpine released the PDX-F4, 150Wx4 into 4 ohms, and the PDX-M12, 1200Wx1 into 4 ohms, both with all connections on one side of the amp, making them perfect for below-seat installation. No-one else made amps that produced so much power in so little space. And still today no-one seems to do it. Not even Alpine :-(. I was looking for replacements for my two PDX amps as after 10 years of heavy use they have developed some "issues", and was surprised to see that I'm basically looking for unobtanium....

Love alpine stepped its game up, 4inch voice coil .oh im going to love this summer with 6 alpine type r 10s. Now they need to make a 2000-3000 watt mono block amp,c'mon Alpine.

I’ve already bought two ilx f509s . Came from KENWOOD dnx1057 .These are great . Alpine dropped the ball with the 409 but made great strides with these 509s . And priced very reasonable. And sound a lot better than the KENWOOD to me

Yeah when they get off the stupidly high prices and make things normal people can afford. Don't get me wrong they got some nice things but when a head unit cost as much as a used car well you can see what I mean. I rather get a nice mini motorcycle to puts around instead. Lol

What kind of battery and how long is the life on the halo knob?
Indeed. I wonder if some contacts can be wired to the back of it with appropriate current/amperage to make it battery-less. An Alpine OEM version would have been ideal. Who wants to change the battery every X amount of months? Not me. I suppose the headunit also controls volume so no worries about cranking the system without being able to turn it down as you arrive home or gave the po-po roll up on you

Do you know if they are going to a bundle for the 2018 4Runner like they did with the ILX-F309FRN receiver? I wanted to pull the trigger on this unit but it was discontinued…so I’m hoping that they are making a new bundle for us 4Runner guys, because all I’m seeing is jeep bundles and jeep love 😑😐😒.
I have the ilx-507, and I can't change the time! How do I fix the clock! Time adjust doesn't adjust the time.
My question would be does the new head unit for the jeep use the factory XM antenna and Bluetooth microphone if equipped from the factory or to you have to mount a separate one?

Wow I really like those twist on/off beaty rings on the Type R subwoofers. Nice touch. I want to know the RMS rating on them since he said they are new and improved because the old ones already slammed and sounded great. Also, those new head units are unbelievable. Everything from the dual control mountable wireless bass knob (No More Cat5 cords) to it being packed with adjustable features to it even having real time voltage monitoring (which is genius by the way). I have always went with pioneer on every aftermarket head unit I have ever run if I wasn't running stock with a LOC but I think after seeing this Alpine has fully won me over (Well see tho I wanna see some pricing lmao). Those things are incredible. Thanks for the content Dean. #AlpineForTheWin
I hope Alpine will produce a single DIN headunit, in retro style (7385M for example), with a HD display and the specs of a IDE178BT (the last good one). No one who drives vintage cars needs the big touch screen bs :)
Why not make the Tyoe X sub in an enclosure? I am buying one but don't want to go from single to double if I am not satisfied. That halo bolt on system would help.

I’m running ILX-F309 in my car… is the new 9” model any better than F309?
One gripe i have is… alpine never had an update for the system in 4 years its been out. I’d like to be able to change colors of LED buttons to match the rest of the interior. Pioneer and Kenwood have that ability.
Looking at this halo knob, I'm amazed that no one makes a volume knob that operates through the steering wheel control input. That is the problem with every current radio: you either get a crappy lcd display and a volume knob, or you get a nice display and crappy volume buttons.

What are you talking about? Almost every headunit on the market allows operation through your steering wheel control.

Back in the mid eighties and early 90’s, alpine was top notch!! I still have my alpine pullout radio!! Back in 92, I paid $600!!! But today’s products look cheap and lackluster. When compared to sundown and DD Audio, Alpine has been MIA…. I was an Alpine nut back in the day. But I haven’t found anything worth buying from Alpine these days.
The main issue unfortunately was the abundance of cheap head units that flooded the Market - so I think they responded in such by producing cheaper units, I Love Alpine and im really looking forward to buying a new Double Din head unit. There are lots of issues nowadays though, don't forget a lot of auto manufacturers actually instal pretty decent Double Din infotainment systems from the factory , so the whole market had changed. But Ive had some fabulous Alpine Head Units and loved every one & everyone had served me very well! Bring back the green buttons and aim for the ultimate in quality.

I hate to say it but something overall has changed in the entire show. Sort of like a condescending attitude coming through. Also quite a bit of favoritism. The show used to be a “can’t miss” but lately I’ve been just scrolling past new shows. And no way am I going to sit through a two hour show to finally get information.
Yes, I noticed that as well, but it’s Alpine and they’re more of a mid level brand (sound quality wise) except the F1 Status. So after the other vehicles Dean listen to, this is probably the worse sounding vehicle is my guess

most people doesn't know enough to set the equalizer and its a waist of time. they should still have the fast options of setting the EQ and vocal setting like, jazz, rock, vocal, stadium... I still love my pioneer premium P-99 from the 90's.

Can somebody teach me ? O.k all this hardware is full of bling bling but….all I want is direct source for my music. My Apple Music lossless with a dragonfly dac ( a portable impressive digital to analog converter )to a aux. Input. It just doesn’t bother me I want to bypass any head unit as it messes my quality. Am I wrong ? And also can you keep your original audio head unit and install another head unit with a bypass ?
I have in mind to enjoy an excellent system but after the véhicule could be sold as an original. Thanks !

How do 1k+ headunits not have digital outs? Who exactly do they think is going to be the primary buyer for such expensive headunits? It seems like a power user would be looking for that.
1-2 more years of android headunit refinement and the power user will be better served with a Joying or Atoto for a price that is cheaper with extreme amounts of customization and access to the android store all built in.
Its amazing how the manuf. have cheaped out by leaning on google/apple to provide the software application to the headunits vs coming out with their own eco systems.
@@DoeBoy999 You beat me to the punch. Alpine falling behind each passing day. Their OEM business is their bread and butter. Those Chinese android based head units are the future for power users.
The problem most people don't understand about using optical out is that on many newer cars they have back up sensors, lane departure warnings etc and optical is only 2 channel front left and front right. So there's no way to send all those chimes correctly to each speaker to mimic the factory units even with something like an Idata Maestro RR. obviously they could just send all the signals to those 2 channels but I'm guessing it would cause issues. Also there's literally like less than 1 percent of current car audio purchasers that care enough about optical and it would increase the price of the units.

I'm mean jl tw5 is like a 7inch coil. Shallows use larger coils at the expense of excursion so they can handle more power. Grant shallows are gaining excursion through suspension innovation

Running my IVA-D310 and PXA-H701 until Alpine does a Video double din head with processor control. Better more compact amplifiers in the X or R Line etc. Could we also please have back surround capability as well. That beeping would drive me nuts
They did make one. The PXA-H701 could still be controlled on the IVA-W505. that was the last double din I'm aware of that allowed the control of the 701.

And Alpine drops the ball, just like Pioneer and Kenwood. They had such a nice bluetooth controller, yet it has no scroll functionality. People that have their music in a USB or SD have a hard time to scroll through music while driving, still a pain at the stop light to scroll using the touch screen, let us use the knob to scroll through songs in the folders of the USB or SD.
