Great Video! I just purchased a Lyric T5 myself and love it! I had the almost exact same problem, my home was also built around 98, what I did was slightly different. One of the unused wires "which was blue" I put it in the C slot then tapped into my C spot on my furnace. I did notice my A/C was also using the C connection. I just wired them both tother and put it in C. tested everything and works perfect. My A/C unit isn't very large.

    @benstevens3302 Před 6 lety +5

Hey John, I just hooked my Lyric T5 and I had the same issue as you, however, I solved my problem a little differently and I believe you could have done the same. (I just purchased a 24 year old house with the original thermostat - 4 wire input, mercury tube kind)
As you noticed, at your furnace you had extra wires wrapped around, specifically the blue one (see 4:42). At your thermostat, you noted you only had four, but if you had pulled your wires out of your wall, you would have seen your blue wire wrapped around there as well.
In older thermostats, the blue was not needed as this supplies extra power, which is now needed for the Lyric T5. To easily remedy this, you should have plugged your blue wire into the “C” terminal at the furnace, and subsequently the “C” terminal at your thermostat. This would have provided the power you needed.
Additionally, as a helpful guide, at your furnace, you have the following terminals: “W” “Y” “R” “G” and “C”. You’ll note that these all agree to the colors of your thermostat wires; white, yellow, red, and green with the exception of “C” which stands for common wire. If you switched them around at the furnace site and accordingly at your thermostat, is makes for a really easy hook up.
    Example:
    W (Furnace) - White (Wire) - W (Therm.)
I hope this helps everyone else!

Some great tips, per the manual after a power outage or whenever the compressor outside turns off, it has a safety feature that doesn't allow the compressor to turn right back on till after a waiting period. During this period the current mode on the screen will flash which I noticed it was on your video thus the compressor wasn't turning on.

Good day. Read on if you have three wire thermostat bundling. In my case multi-zone hot water heating with 8 zone valves, 3 transformers and a propane boiler (and 5 pumps). This applies to those moving from a two wire honeywell thermostat (which covers the older mercury tube type, OR the LCD display type that needed batteries to display and programme). All my wiring bundles included a third wire folded back, which we will use for the Common Wire discussed. (no fan, no cooling, no heat pump, just heat)
    A. The steps are as follows.
    a. identify which wire is going to the load side of the transformer in the boiler room (should be the wire currently hooked into your R connector). Confirm proper wiring.
    b. identify which wire is going to the associated zone valve for that zone (should be the wire currently hooked into your W connector). Confirm proper wiring
    c. Work backwards from the zone valve motor to find the single (usually yellow wire) that is connected to a single wire coming in from thermostat wire bundles. (the other yellow motor wire is connected to the non load side of a transformer and in my case is maretted with a bunch of yellow zone valve wires and one other wire going to the non-load side of one of my three transformers)
    d. The single yellow wire connected to another single wire is how you find the W wire from the applicable thermostat and now you have located the correct thermostat wire bundle in the boiler room. e. trace the R wire from this bundle to the associated transformer as this is were the common wire needs to be attached.
    f. attach the common wire end in the boiler room, typically with a marette to a new piece of wire which is then attached to the SAME TRANSFORMER as the R wire BUT to the opposite side(screw).
Synopsis A: With a multi-transformer scenario, I found the easiest thing to do was find the yellow wires (coming from my honeywell zone valves and attached to the motor) and found which one was connected to the W wire from the wire bundle - this was a one to one connection. (The other yellow wire was joined with other zone valve yellow wires and was connected to a wire going to one of my transformers on the opposite side to the load side on that transformer and thus not helpful.). Finding the W wire allowed me to trace back to the 3 wire bundle from that thermostat coming into a common wiring box. Now I could locate the Common wire and importantly the R wire. I had to know which transformer the R wire went to, in order to ensure the common wire went to the opposite side of the same transformer.
    B. At thermostat the following steps applies:
    (a) Ensure the R and RC switch is down, in the 2 slot position (both holes exposed)
    (b) Connect the C wire to the C post/slot
    (c) Connect the R wire to the R post/slot
    (d) Connect the W wire to the W post/slot
    (e) create a little jumper wire (u shaped with exposed copper at the ends) and CONNECT R to Rc
Explanation: The R and W wires form a 24 volt circuit WHEN the thermostat calls for heat, (the thermostat joins the R and W wires creating a circuit for juice to flow). The jumper between R and Rc creates and additional circuit between Rc and C WHICH HONEYWELL OMITS in all their literature. Tech support kept telling me I needed four wires, R,W,C and Rc and that I needed to create a similar circuit to RW, using C and Rc. Well by using the jumper I effectively used the Juice on the R side sharing it with Rc. Since the honeywell internally connects Rc and C, the needed circuit is established from the get go and the thermostat powers up. When the thermostat calls for heat, the R and W are connected and the zone valve motor turns on and operns the valve (tested and works).
    So the two keys are
    (1) knowing that honeywell uses the Rc slot and C slot for power to the unit and
    (2) the C wire has to be on the same transformer but opposite side in the boiler room If you have the different standard square sized honeywell thermostat or find the video on you tube for WIFI honeywell, you will see that they have the jumper already in place!!!
Good luck with your own situation. :-)

If your still having problems connecting to wifi you need to reset your router and reset your t5 then use your iPhone or apple product to install the wifi. It won't let a android phone to set it up. But after it's set up you can sign in and it works on the android. I've been having this problem for a few days after I did that update. So if your having the same problem just reset your router and reset your lyric termostat

  • @awmartian
    @awmartian Před 5 lety

If thermostat is flashing "cool on" or "heat on" it means it is giving time for the system to rest before restarting again. It will start up again in 5 minutes. It should not be flashing once it starts. It flashes like that to protect your compressor from cycling on and off and burning up. If you use the app to do it manually you are bypassing this system so be careful.

Why didn’t you one of the extra wires at the furnace and the thermostat. For example: connect the extra blue wire at furnace to C terminal and the blue wire at the thermostat to the C junction on thermostat and the rest of the other wires R to R, W to W, G to G, Y to Y on thermostat

I have been researching various options like everyone else. From what I gather, using this method (green wire at the thermostat and then HVAC Control panel noted in the video etc) should work. One more point not mentioned here in the video. Another site (link below) says in the HVAC control panel, after moving the Green wire to C, there is one more step. You need to add a jumper wire between the Green terminal (which is now empty) to the Yellow Terminal. I see its there in your video recording of your control panel.

amanda muzechenko I'm not positive but I believe it does. I'd suggest taking your thermostat off the wall to look at the wiring configuration first. Honeywell has a decent 24hr customer service line too you can call. Good luck. It's a useful gadget

I think you will not be able to just run the fan to circulate air without air or heat turned on.

FBAHSY it has been working perfectly fine through all seasons the way it is.

Looks to me like you have extra wires tucked away. Definitely had extra down at the furnace. You sure you didn't have extra wires hiding away behind the wall? Could have used one of them to be your C wire.

Brad Mugford I did have the extra wires tucked in behind the wall. I tried using one as the c wire, which I connected to the c terminal on the furnace and then into the thermostat. It didn't work for me, so IDK. This configuration worked and I'm okay with it.

Honeywell is full of shit! ! No one should have to go through this much trouble just to install a thermostat . I took it back off . It was getting hot and I was frustrated.
