- My oldest deck now. I treated myself to this deck after finding it for a good price. If you've been following, you'll know this is that stinky deck. It's better now, but still smells a bit. I think they made a lot of these as they are widely available at prices ranging from $100-$300 depending on the condition. This one seems to be made by B.P. Grimaud but distributed by U.S. Games Systems, Inc. The cardstock is everything, but I bet it is prone to splitting.
Thank you for checking out my video!
Etteilla at his very best. Thanks for the video. :-)
I love these older tarot decks. Thanks for the review.
What are some of your favorite older decks? I don't have much experience with much before 1980.
@@tarotoculus one of my favourite decks is the Aquarian tarot. That’s from 1970. I like most of the older TDM decks too like the Dodal. What’s your favourite?
@@martys_musings The Noblet is my favorite Marseille because of how quirky it is. The Aquarian is a lovely deck as well. Its popularity has kept it in print, which says something in the tarot world where decks go out of print so quickly.
@@tarotoculus I totally agree with you.
I hate that old smell, your right it is the paper/cardboard breaking down along with being closed away in a dark draw or cupboard for decades, no air circulation etc.
When buying a used or unused Vintage Tarot it's to be expected. Depending on the price or person/business you buy from. If paying top dollar I'd expect the cards to be at very least in Order. If they smell old, smokey or have that aweful incense smell that many "Hippie Tarot" type people luv to burn, it would be the right thing for the seller to air them out in the sun for a brief time. Not so long causing cards to fade, a few hours in soft sun light outside. If the price was good or a bargain then complaining is not the appropriate thing to do. You can air them yourself.
The price was good, so I can't complain and I am lucky to have them in this condition. I can deal with the smell, but luckily it has dissipated unless I unleash the cards from their home and wave them around. I've had a few decks I bought from shops that smelled like the shop - patchouli our something else - which fades quickly. I'd rather my decks have a minimal smell if any. My guess is this deck was just kept in a musty container in a closed off room for some time. If it could talk, I wonder what it would tell me???
Hi, I have this deck from my grandma I would love to use it but I find it a bit difficult to interpret. Where can I learn to use these specic deck cards?
This is an interesting deck. There is no one modern book on this deck. I would suggest seeking out other videos about using it. There are some out there. Benebell Wen is a great resource. Check out her channel!
My copy has no box lid, and there's someone's blue ink writing on them. 😊
That's the risk with second hand copies. It's a pity that some people have to do that to "remember meanings" :-(
@@78puertas 90% of my collection are second hand. To a certain extent I love their marks of history.
@@albinnibla well, all our decks, but one (a chinese Mah-Jong with cards), were bought brand new, but we do have a few second hand books (for being out of print), so yes, I understand your point of view. Thanks for you answer. ^_^
I like second hand items...sometimes. Aren't you weary of bad energy attached to items?
@@tarotoculus that's the main reason why we don't buy second hand decks. Perhaps this might be an interesting idea for a video ;-)
I have this deck and I believe it is published by AGM. Mine is about half the thickness of this giant deck you have. Never learned how to read with it correctly (or the Papus deck for that matter). I know you are a PINK NARCISSUS fan and if you are interested check out my re-edit with a new soundtrack I composed on my CZcams channel. It's sort of a memorial tribute to James Bidgood who passed away January 31st. Also doing a fun music celebration of the Bob Mizer and the guys of AMG if you want to check it out.
I was sad to hear about Bidgood and how he was in a rent controlled apartment in NYC and was basically housebound for ten years. There was a fund to help with his funerary costs. I love how you have been inspired by some of the same things that have inspired me. It's great to share these things!
