  • This is a video of my 2016 Yamaha XT250. I've bought this bike around December 2016 after trying to decide what my second bike would be (started out on a Honda CBR250R). This is my ownership review for anyone that's interested in this bike and wants to know how it's like to own one of these. The Yamaha XT250 is a great air cooled, 250cc, fuel injected dual sport that has a pretty decent seat height at 31.9 inches. In the video, I share my experiences of the time I've owned the bike as well as stock exhaust sounds.

    Screw loud exhaust it gives your location away.

    First, put on a skid plate if you ride where rocks are prevalent. Second, it's a bike for anyone who wants a dual sport that's reliable, inexpensive and has a low seat height. Don't waste money on $ 1K worth of suspension work, loud mufflers, or power commanders or the like. Mod it with stuff that makes it more useful to you whether it be street oriented or dirt. If you're 20 and have raging hormones this isn't your bike. For anyone else it could fit the bill nicely... Folks 5'8 and under will love this bike. Those nearing 6 foot and more I'd think twice. If riding in the dirt, a $ 20 14 tooth sprocket will do wonders for perceived power w/out losing too much on the street. If it's mainly street make sure it's 55 mph or under. Prolonged riding at 60 or higher wears thin quickly..

    It's an awesome bike for what it is: light duel purpose. Not for highway trips unless you like getting beat up by wind and lagging behind traffic.

    It is a great bike specially since it is fuel injected, I have the carburetor one and if it sits too long, it clogs up. Do not waste money on a new exhaust, it doesn't make any difference.

    I just got a 2021 XT250. The suspension felt so soft before I even took it off road I was looking into upgrading the suspension. I have now had multiple trips on very technical trails and the suspension is perfect. What I mean about that is:
    * It doesn't ever bottom out
    * Rebound is very fast
    * Suspension is very predictable - it responds to bumps and jumps and rocks and...the same way each time which really inspires some confidence
    The low seat height, solid torque, great gearing, makes this a bike you can take anywhere (except highways! :-) I see why they have such a cult following!
    Great video, thanks for sharing.

      Honestly that’s perfect for me. Highways are for the car/when you need to get somewhere just to get there. Backroads, dirt roads are where I take my bike for exploration and enjoying myself.
      Dual sport is the way to go.

      But it would be cool to have a DR650 as a second bike to go on the highway a bit. I have an XT250. I've done 70 and it'll do short runs on the highway. It would probably cruise at 55 without much issues for 50 miles.@@Elohim100

    Just bought a 2017. Last year with blue plastic and I can't find one instock new anywhere anyway. Love these bikes. Good replacement for my old Suzuki 450. I grew up on dirtbikes so these are really appealing to me. I don't want to ride on the highway anyway, only with a large pack and that's getting a little too planned and organized for me.

    I just bought one, same dirt road tires. do you feel good while riding on a freeway? I feel a bit wobble at 45 miles / hour, didn't try faster than that yet. because of the tires?

    • @IvanRides
      @IvanRides  Před 4 lety +2

      lima3231 i usually don’t feel a wobble until the high 60s but then I tend to ease off the throttle. I don’t really try to ride it much on the highway but when I do I tend to leave it at a certain speed before it starts to wobble. I think you may need to break in the tires did you buy it new?

    • @lima3231

    • @rjames7380
      @rjames7380 Před 4 lety +4

      It's probably your tires. My bike did the same thing.
      I replaced them with dunlop d606. Wobble be gone

    I wonder how these will perform once you do KN filter, power commander, power bomb header, and fmf exhaust? Might put some more pep in step for Highway and maybe sprocket change for more top end.

    • @IvanRides
      @IvanRides  Před 4 lety +1

      Michael Coffey oh yeah! I'm sure there will be a slight increase in power and adding all that will help reduce weight. I just haven't done that because I may replace it with a 450 in the near future

    • @MarlonVanderLinde
      @MarlonVanderLinde Před 3 lety +1

      might sound like a squatter, noisy? I like moving around stealthily, and also not just making noise for the sake of it :)
      I recommend keeping it stock. It rocks. You might want a WR with a GYTR system fitted rather.

    Had the crf450l awesome bike for the street and mild off-roading but you do tight single track and the power will make it a chore and not fun at all sure it's the rider not the bike but 450s are just too much power for technical single track.

    • @LaneHadway127
      @LaneHadway127 Před 2 lety

    • @savage22bolt32
      @savage22bolt32 Před 2 lety

      I feel the exact opposite about my CRF250L. But after riding it for a couple of months, I've found that keeping it over 5000 rpm (using a lower gear) the power is ok.

  • @srrtbb
    @srrtbb Před 4 lety

    You'd look into suzuki drz400 for that. Great to convert to super moto with extra set of street tires. Couple of friends are really happy owning and owned the drz.
    Also, with your slang where do you live? I live in CA, because hell I'll buy your bike! I'm looking for a used xt250 fuel injection.
    I'm serious if you're not to far from CA. Cheers!
