  • A review of the Canon Sureshot Z135. This point and shoot 35mm camera has been by my side since I purchased it, one year ago. I take this camera with me everywhere I go because its just super reliable and versatile. If you are into zoom point and shoots then definitely check out this camera for yourself.

    Just ordered one on ebay. I'm excited! I really needed a zoom P&S for a project I'm working on. The others I were looking at were the mju zooms, minolta freedom zoom etc, but this one I love the lens and it's not way overpriced! Thanks for the recommendation.

    Glad to see this nice video on a wonderful camera. Some of them say Caption on them and they will work with an inexpensive remote or an RC1. I have 5 total that I picked up when they were being dumped at thrift stores. All work great!

    just ordered one and wanted to know more about it in general as it's my first film camera. quick question. 1) does it have self timer? and 2) what film do you recommend for it? great video, loved it!!

    • @LachlanBain
      @LachlanBain  Před 2 lety +9

      Hey, no problem at all. Ask away
      1) The camera has a 10 second self timer mode on the back. It will flash a little red light on the front to show you it is counting down. At 7:37 you can see a photo where I set the camera up on a ledge and then used the self timer mode so I could be in shot.
      2) my favourite film stocks to use are Kodak Colorplus 200, Fuji C200 and Kodak Portra 400 (for more special occasions as it is expensive). I haven’t used much black and white film to be honest, but I’ve heard good things about Ilford HP5 and Kodak T-max.

    The main deal breaker for me is that the flash control is under a door, lol. I have the Canon Sure Shot Owl PF and it reverts to auto flash every time I turn it off and on. Every time I turn it on I have to press the flash button twice for no flash. Not a huge deal but it's irritating. If the button was behind a door I'd lose my mind. Other than that, it's very similar in specs to your camera (sans zoom}. I saw the Sure Shot Max and Telemax have a physical switch for the flash which is much better.

    • @LachlanBain
      @LachlanBain  Před 5 měsíci

      I definitely agree, a physical switch is much better when you need take the shot fast without the flash potentially ruining it.
      You risk losing the candidness of a shot when you have to try and press those tiny buttons to turn off flash haha.

    I have no issue with the camera's battery life at all. This is because I just found this camera in a box collecting dust, and legit the camera's LCD screen still showed the battery life (albeit 1 bar left and flashing) since it was last used more than a decade and a half ago.

    Hey! I just found this camera in my house, it was of my father and I am very excited about taking photos with it, all my childhood pics where taken with it. I only got a question… I found the camera with a film that has been in there for at least 10 years, do you think I should take advantage of it or change it? I don't know how the film is after so many years

    • @LachlanBain
      @LachlanBain  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey, that’s super exciting. I would personally take advantage of that roll that’s already in there. Mainly because if you get it developed then there’s a chance you might find more childhood photos or important memories. Who knows what you might find haha. Could be garbage or it could be gold and that’s a risk I personally would be willing to take.
      Maybe just finish the roll with taking some quick photos around home or something simple. Then move on to a new roll, hopefully when you get it developed and scanned you will find some old bangers still on there.

    bonjour from france ! How did you get theses pictures on your computer please?

    • @LachlanBain
      @LachlanBain  Před 11 měsíci

      Bonjour! The process of getting the pictures from negatives to digital copies is all done by the film lab I use. I take my film (once exposed) to a professional lab that develops, scans and uploads the photos to a Dropbox folder. The link to that folder then gets emailed to me and I have my photos as jpegs or tiff files within 2-3 days after dropping the film off. This process might be a little different in France but you can always ship your film to a lab in another city if it’s easier.
      I hope this helps :)

    • @LachlanBain
      @LachlanBain  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Melina, the only times I’ve seen this camera miss focus is when I’ve tried to take a photo of myself in a mirror. For some reason the auto focus just can’t do mirrors very well, especially in low light situations.
      Other then that this camera doesn’t miss a beat. It’s got no issues when it comes to shooting portraits of others or using self timer mode to capture yourself in the frame. Usually I just give the camera to friends and family, so they can take a photo of myself. The camera is just really easy to use which helps in those situations.

    • @LachlanBain
      @LachlanBain  Před 2 lety +1

      @@melinamedina6301 From what Ive seen online it is very similar in its specifications (shutter speeds, lightmeter, aperture). The lens zooms to 115mm instead of 135mm, so there is a bit less zoom. This is probably the main difference, all the functions and settings are still the same as the z135.

      Hey Jack, my favourite film stock to use with my point n shoot is Kodak colorplus 200. It’s on the cheaper side and gives good enough results for the photos that I typically take on this camera. Only problem is it’s super popular and often out of stock.

  • @kristiyanpetrov6847
    @kristiyanpetrov6847 Před 2 lety

    Can you set the aperture you want or the camera does not allow you ? In the end of the focal length is too closed almost sure i wont use it but up to the 50mm will be fine for me i guess.

    • @LachlanBain
      @LachlanBain  Před 2 lety

      You cannot set the aperture. You can do exposure compensation + or - 1.5 stops in the settings. But it’s all automatic. The photos are the sharpest at 38-50mm. It’s hard to find a zoom point n shoot with a good aperture.

      The best photo results I got were when I shot at the wider angle (38mm). I would still recommend this point and shoot to those who want the extra features. It won’t beat a fixed focal length point n shoots sharpness like the mju i or Ricoh r1 but it is more versatile for sure.
