I don't think Kounde has fallen off. He's just too inconsistent. He'll make 2-3 really good performances but then drops a stinker here and there which makes Xavi doubt him. He's played well at both RB&CB, but as i said, has been really inconsistent since his Injury. I remember he wasn't dribbled past by any player before his Injury, and there were talks of him being the Best Defender in the world. I think good competition from Inigo and Christensen will eventually motivate him to give his best, and its a blessing for us that we have such good backups for defensive postions

He was our best defender at the beginning of the season but after he returned from his injury he has been woeful for us(at CB at least. At RB he is as good as ever

I think as a RB he is class, last season went amazing for him and he gives me WAAAY more confidence as a RB than a CB.. like araujo is better in everything and christensen is taller and better on physiscal and areal duel.

Kounde isbetter at CB but needed as a RB only because Barca doesnt have proper CDM. If Xavi actually tries Christensen at CDM and he is good there Kounde and Araujo with Christensen in front of them could actually work well. The other problem is with syncing Cancelo and Balde so when one goes in attack the other stays back (usually they both go forward) and thats the other reason Kounde works at RB. Sorry if my english is not great :)
your take is super bad. Auraujo and Christensen dominated almost everyone as our centerbacks. This season Kounde has been our primary cb with AC and it has been horrible. Also switching up our cb's all the time when everyone is fit makes everyone more insecure and broke the harmony in defense. The effect this must have on the rest of the team is massive since xavi looks like a pathetic man who promised kounde a cb position regardless of how bad it effetcs us.
I don´t get why Xavi actually never tried to play christensen as cdm. He plays there for Denmark and does pretty good job there..We are desperately missing cdm so Frenkie can create more and it could solve a lot of the issues. Honestly Xavi is so stubborn and is afraid to try something new.

And since there is no way to buy one now and Romeu isnt working maybe Xavi should try Christensen (who has played as a pivot before) there or just play with 3CBs, Balde and Cancelo as wing backs and 2strikers and 1 behind them (Pedri, Felix, Yamal and Raphinha can play as No10) and Vitor Roque/Ferran with Lewandowski. But since Xavi wont change the system i think Christensen as pivot could be a good solution if given a try.
I think there is something wrong with Xavi playing wrong personnel in wrong positions. playing kounde at RB makes so much sense when the whole team performs better. Similar story is being knitted at the Left Back as well. Cancelo is much better currently at the left and by all means Xavi should have the authority to bench an underperforming Balde to start Cancelo on the Left. Yet the complete opposite is happening. Xavi needs to get a grip on these players and make them understand that no one is immune from getting benched. Look how Greilish was benched because Doku is performing better than him at City.
Barcelona don’t have the financial ability to not listen to their players and just bench them. For example of kounde says fuck this and forces a leave the club is fucked cause we need to look for someone else and let’s be honest the premier league inflated the prices of players so yeh
Cancelo should stay on the bench along with Kounde if you ask me ..

I just don't understand why he doesn't want to play RB, he can defend, he is good with ball, he can go forward to give an outlet to mid and attack , he can also participate in attack if he can focus he can be one of the best all round RB on world, I mean he played RB in france NT ahead of many players proving Deschamps also see his potential there so just why? He is brilliant so it is frustrating to see this.
Because he’s not accustomed to rb. He can there but He feels way more comfortable as cb. That’s where he played most of his career for club and country. He was bought a cb too.
@@danielross4242 I know but still, it is frustrating. Also as he was the one who wanted to play CB and is in bad form it could pressure him leading to a decrease in confidence. I am not saying make him perma RB but until BARCA can sort out their CDM problem he shouldn't play CB if other CBs are available. When Barca gets a good CDM that could cover the backline he can slowly build his chemistry with ARAUJO as CB, as they both are young and have plenty of time.
Because he's not a first man defender. He's more of a clean up crew man. That's why direct tricky wingers eat him up regularly in comparison to araujos bully ish style.

That's a point but at the staring of season he was able to play a high possession based style when we had Frenkie - Gavi pivot that leads me to believe when all this mess is solved he can develop more into a Barca type of CB in future. He has qualities just need some confidence, time and proper guidance for it.
IMO Barca was not playing that good but after the Gavi injury they have been terrible. After Injury Barca has been a diffrent team altogether.

3-5-2 might be the solution since we’re playing with such a lack of quality. In the 2020-2021 season it was good at times. It suffocates the opposition and gives you easy possession and a clear way of going forward. Would love to see Christensen, Araujo and Kounde together in defence. Then Gundogan, Pedri, Frenkie as center mids with Balde or Cancelo and Raphinha or Yamal on the wings. The 2 forwards could be any combination of Ferran, Roque, Lewandowski or even Yamal.

Something I'd like to add is that, just as many top tier teams have great squad depth, they also have great fitness teams.
Season after season, the club struggles with fitness and injuries. You might debate that overplaying has been key but almost every players has been injured in a two season time span.
The team focuses in technique as it's part of "Barça DNA" but as the sport becomes a lot more physically demanding, there should be a way to add more physical training and therapy. It might seem like something minimal but it can have a HUGE impact in overall team performance or a season overall.

Think back 3 would hopefully satisfy him, he probably needs a top defensive midfield pivot to protect him if both fullbacks bomb forward. Gundogan used to get killed by liverpool when he played in double pivot or as a single pivot, as he got older and slower, other teams exposed him too, the back 3, playing with rodri, stacked team and box midfield pep been running has hidden his deficiencies.

As a Real Madrid fan, I think the problem is that you dont have a good enough RB. I think Kounde and Araujo can be a great CB duo for you, But you need at least one fullback who can help defensively. You can’t have two fullbacks like Cancelo and Balde who can’t defend and only attacks
Maybe xavi should try a 541 not like our fwds are firing anyway. Transition the 541 to a 343 with the balde and cancelo either joining the fwd line or midfield to overload. With christensen aroujo and kounde as a back 3. Run romeu frenkie gundo pedri/fermin. Maybe raphinha can go in the midfield cross or shoot hes pretty defensive minded felix and ferran can try playing as a second striker

Stats don't mean everything as a defender he's always been just above average that's why the team was at its best with him as RB because he has mistakes in his game and Araujo is usually the one to fix his mistakes last season at the end when we won the league and there were still games to be played and xavi dropped Araujo we were ass because of koundes mistakes
He is maybe a bit inconstistent at the moment, but generally I believe in him, he will prove himself
+1 on what you have said about Kounde but, and this is the big kicker and decider, Xavi lacks the character or personality that Pep had (as an example) to move a player where he wanted regardless of what the player was good at. An easy example comes to mind, Mascherano, the Sun of the Argentinian Squad as a Pivot MF, and yet, Pep had him playing as a CB. I never liked it because every time Mache made a small oops, it almost represented a goal but the point here is that Pep moved people around as he saw fit or better for the squad and not the individual. Xavi wants to be a crowd and player-pleaser and well, therein lies the problem

Kounde is better at RB than CB currently but is he actually a better RB than Araujo? Araujo is faster and stronger and carries the ball equally well. Kounde has shown better combinations and crossing but is that really our RBs role if were playing a proper winger like yamal? Kounde is defensively better than cancelo so that's a useful difference to have but if barcelona make Cancelo permanent i doubt kounde will start ahead of him

You have to remember that Kunde is a center back at first. Before he was bought by Barca, he was impeccable in Sevilla as a center back, with some versatility as a Right back. He was delivering master level performances and that form carried on in Barcelona. He was one of the top Guys for Xavi to have one of the most solid backlines in Spain. However, and I strongly think that, the whole team is having a systemic problem, inasmuch as players are losing their ways defensive sharpness and offensive efficiency. And Kunde is just a manifestation of that issue. Barcelona has the some of the best players in their positions. It is just that they need to get a fitting system and a coach that gives them their confidence back. I'm afraid Xavi is out of his depth here
He's the 4th best CB in the team right now, if he continues to complain about playing at RB - he should be sold. The 50M would be way more valuable when we're trying to rebuild the team and sign a star DM.

It's not the same problem. Colwill is definitely not suited to be an LB. He's playing there out of compulsion because Chilwell and Cucurella are unavailable.
Levi Colwill situation is different because (1) he’s playing there due to LB injuries and (2) tactically. Poch prefers to start with 3 CBs much like Pep who at times starts 4 CBs. Personally. I feel like Kounde is perfect for today’s tactics and a manager like Pep would love him because he gives him in game tactical flexibility without having to make a substitution.
Chelsea love a Frenchman so that's always an option if Xavi feels he wants someone who fits better

Imo kounde isn't world class, he's way above average though, most CB are physically imposing, height, strength and in rare cases speed, when physical traits are not there a CB would most likely be technical, having superb reading of the game to make up for not being a beast physically.
