The Maxxis AT980 are in reality so good in offroad that we concluded that their setup is 60% offroad / 40% onroad, the reverse of what Maxxis sais. Built strong, with lots of bite grip, superb self-cleaning and good asphalt performance, the Maxxis 980 is a truly impressive tire, and second place on our AT standings chart. For Europe it is sold as Worm Drive and for the rest of the world / Australia as Bravo, same tire two names. We ask you to analyse our work and let us know your thoughts the comments!

First of all, nice video, long, thorough review - liked and subscribed!
To the point: I've been using the Maxxis 980's for about two years now, I love them, I also used them in a short expedition (which resulted in a book) with no punctures... A few things should be mentioned/made clear for the potential buyers here:
1. Do not buy them for use on tarmac roads, the humming is unbearable at certain speeds. NVH is absolutely horrendous, your better half will contemplate leaving you...
2. Balancing them is tricky at best!
3. Do not buy them for extensive use in mud: They will work for a few meters, after that you are on your own! Like with pretty much every A/T tire out there...
Great tyres for A/Ts excellent performance off road, excellent on road, nice and quiet. Recommended

Your Duster sound great ! What engine and exhaust system do you have ?
If I can see the table well, the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S can still be left in the car. It worked well for me. Now that I can test it in the winter. Extremely good rubber. He was not afraid to surpass the crumbling car line by 90-100km/h in 15-20cm snow. :)
AT34S is still the top overall tire ;)
I've seen in your chart that you have tested the rotiiva a/t,is there going to be a video review for that tyre?By the way,you are doing an excellent job,no other channel has that knowledge on testing and explaining tyre and terrain physics and dynamics.
Thank you, please remember to share. We have not tested officially the rootiva but we do have several feedback from the community discussed at length, based on that we would not recommend it as it is mediocre overall compared to others.
I have the worm-drive tires on my Land Rover Freelander, and they perform exceptionally well both on and off the road.

Multumim, nu am ajuns inca la Silverstone dar ii luam in calcul. Anvelopa lor pare o clona de 980 ca design asemanator insa sipeurile sunt interne si nu drepte, clar trebuie testat. Posibil sa fie mai buna pe asfalt si iarna.
As fi curios unde s-ar situa Hankook Dynapro AT2 vad ca stramosul sau Dynapro ATM e decent undeva pe la mijlocul clasamentului, ma astept ca AT2 sa fie mai bun ca el pe zapada , ud si comfort

In this video at 15:22 you say "typical ko2 lateral slide" but the tires on the car are the Maxxis At980... How do they compare at lateral slide with the BF ko2?
Its a different car at that minute with KO2s, yes the right idea would have been to also change the image. They are far better than KO2s in all aspects except wall thickness
what tyre would you suggest for 215 65 16 size that is closer to the performance of the cooper 4s? the cooper is not available at 65 profile and i cant put bigger tyres than 65.
continental atr? i need exactly what the cooper offers but cant fit it to my car :(
ATR is a disaster in winter but very good in summer, AT3WA is decent but a bit risky on wet and poor in offroad. You can't find 4S performance at 65. It depends if you also use dedicated winter tires.

Based in Greece so snow is not really a problem as it snows only 2-3 times per year.
Right now i use the yokohama g015 and they are actually really good in snow nothing special in gravel and mud and bad at wet tarmac even at 28 psi.

Hi I have vw amarok, generally drive on normal roads. I'm a builder and shoot so sometimes soft mud, grass not to hilly, what's your advise on a tyre? . I'm in the uk.
Toyo MT are great tyres superb on and off road
Normal roads means comfort and safety first, so Cooper AT3 Sport 2 or Maxxis 980 if you fear mud. Remember to deflate your ATs in offroad.

Apropo, Cosmin Craciun si-a anulat dpf-ul? Am vazut undeva ca a facut traseu nou de evacuare, si nu părea sa il mai aiba. M-ar interesa si pe mine
Nu uita ca exprimarea este cel mai bun in offroad nu neaparat si onroad - alte ATuri il depasesc la asfalt. Din ce stim noi DPFul nu este anulat ci doar evacuarea finala schimbata, oficial nu recomandam scoaterea DPFului. Nu prea se mertita, avcem Dustere care trag mai bine cu DPF pe mape identice, decat cele fara DPF.
Do you think that tires are better than the falken at3 or the toyo open country? I am indecisive of what tires i wan to bought for My Duster i do 65-70 percent asfalt and 35-30% offt road, but the problem is than i live in méxico (especifictly in Mexicali Baja California than is a desert ) the roads are in bad conditions in a lot of parts and full of inperfections and my normal tires (micheline latitude) flatten a lot, what tires do you recomended for that conditions?
We don't have access to those tires except their European counterparts. And those are not particular renown as being tough. What you need is KO2 or 980 and considering the price, go for 980. Also remember that tough tires are a bit noisy (humming) so you might consider spraying some soundproofing on your wheel arches and under the car (seats area).
Thank you very much for answering, the ko2 if they are very easy to get are everywhere, but what I do not like is that I have heard from acquaintances that they are not safe when it rains or at high speeds (particularly there is a road that I occupy from time to time climb that is well paved but is full of curves is called the "rumorosa") then the maxxis if they are better? Others that I do not mention are the general grabber that I also have within reach, well actually I have the possibility of buying any tire because I am on the border with the United States and the price is not a problem.

@@DaciaDusterTrails sunt la inceput in ale offroad ului, tin sa mentionez ca folosesc masina 60 %asfalt 40% teren accidentat la vanatoare/ pescuit in zona de campie / deal. Nu am o mare experieenta si n am spart niciun perete de anvelopa in jumatate de an de cand am masina.
Wasnt the testing duster damaged by pulling a trailer that is almost a ton heavier than its maximum towing capacity ?
Hi there, no it didn't not got damaged. That duster also does a lot of farm work.
@@DaciaDusterTrails Hm... intresting i wonder if the maximum towing limit is determined by dusters brakes perhaps not being able to stop for example 3.5 tons on trailer. Looks like its plenty strong to tow 2 tons maybe even more.
Btw he looks like he has upgraded brakes does that help with something besides braking :D
Looks very similar to the BFG KO2, which one do you prefer of the two?
Looks and reality are very different things, at least this is what we found in testing. AT980 is far superior to KO2 as it ejects mud twice as well and has better asphalt grip on wet.

Can you tell me please what is the difference between 980 Bravo and 980 Wormdrive? I am about to put the wormdrive on my duster.
We cannot obtain the real difference, nobody in the supply chain or at the marketing level knows. Could be just region name specific.

I’ve got an old transit I’m looking to take on road trips around the U.K. and only AT is the available for it is these but only sized at a narrow 195/80r14 - will these still be as good on a heavy van? Narrow still good?

No, for heavy vans go for AT3 Sport 2, that would be safer on asphalt
@@DaciaDusterTrails unfortunately the only choice of tyre I have without modifying are these. Maybe an all season tyre with decent tread would be best instead and hope I don’t get stuck 😅

Are M+S... sa nu fi primit tu o varianta de vara :) - da, iti iei amenda daca nu gasesti MSul. Worm Drive e o denumire generala zonala, pe tine te intereseaza AT980 ca sa sti sigur.

Da merge, pierzi cam 8cp la plecare de pe loc (poti sa iti faci remapare), insa nu uita ca Dusterul nu are decat o singura marime si RARul nu accepta marimi mai mari chiar si cu 1cm.

Maxxis is more silent and has better traction on gravel, rocks, sand and asphalt that make most of your Trail.

Chimie si design, desi par asemanatoare la nivel de "cuburi lego" in realitate in teren, comportamentele sunt diferite 980 fiind mult peste KO2. La rezistenta sunt aproximativ la fel iar la pret maxxisurile sunt mai ieftine. Pe chimie maxxisurile franeaza mai bine.

Why are the 4x2 video shots in the 1st person and the 4x4 in the 3rd person?
Something tells me that he uses 4x4 in all the shots, specifically one that goes up a snowy hill in 4x2 and stops at the beginning of it to accelerate again;

I have those on the original size 215/60 r17. They are bad on asphalt, okysh offroad. Whinter tyme I swiched on BFG gforce winter2 (road orientet tires) because they are much safer on road during winter than general graber at3
