Can You Play the Disney Genie Slots in California Adventure? We Visited Disneyland to Find Out!

- Heigh-ho, everybody! We traveled all the way across the country to find out if you can play the Disney Genie Slots at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure the same way you do at Walt Disney World in Orlando. We discovered that there are some very important changes to the way Disney Genie Plus works in California, plus different dynamics that may change how you plan your Disney day.
We rode just about everything, from the Halloween-themed Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark to the thrilling Incredicoaster to the newest ride at Marvel’s Avengers Campus, Web Slingers. We had a ton of fun, so make sure your arms, legs, hands and feet are inside the vehicle at all times and let’s have a blast together at Disney’s California Adventure!
I have been given that card for estimate wait time in Disney world many times. So it’s there as well.
Great info on CA! Back about 10 years ago at WDW at Big Thunder Mountain, my son was given one of the cards to carry and give to the cast member to help them figure out how much time it took to get through the line. He was little so was very excited to hold it and have a "job" that would help Disney. The cast member gave him a special sticker to thank him. That was the last time I've seen those at WDW.

I’m a Disneylander and I can’t recall anything other than Rise being down on any of my trips. Maybe you were there at a bad time? Or maybe maintenance has gotten worse since I was last there in 2022.
Anyway, thanks for helping me prepare for my first Disney World trip. Only 58 days to go! 😊

This really did helped me since I am using your orlando videos however this december I will be going to california and I am so glad you did this park as well because honestly I did not know there where differences until right now! And as I was watching your video I did not know you need to book also for the world of color how did you do it?
Also I did not see your magic kingdom for anaheim do you have one like mentioned in the video

DLR is my home park, so just gotta add: They had the red cards in WDW before Magic Bands 😉 Also, if DL has fireworks most of Fantasyland closes for safety. The fireworks are set off closer vs at MK in Florida. Fun to see your perspective. I love the pace in California. I tend to explore more vs WDW as I know I’m still likely to get all I want done in the day without having to focus on going big ride to big ride.
Hi Carly! Thanks so much for sharing this info. I had no idea about Fantasyland shutting down for the fireworks, but now that makes perfect sense. Also, I’m so sad I never got a red card when it was here at WDW. I had no idea that was how it had been done here, too. I kinda hope it doesn’t go away now that y’all have Magic Bands. Hi Rob! Love your videos as they are always helpful 😊. Which park would you recommend to start at using genie+ and park hopper if we only have 1 day? The day we go DL closes at 12am and DCA closes at 10pm…BTW I met you at Epcot in January 2024 during Festival of Arts! It was an awesome moment for me! 😊

I love getting the red card. Makes me feel like a kid. I hope you caught the hidden Mickeys on the bottom of the loop on IncrediCoaster. I absolutely love the GotG Monsters After Dark! The CMs totally make that ride. I hope you enjoyed your visit to DLR. Looking forward to the DL video.

I'm so glad they don't do the little red cards on lanyards at WDW anymore. It's definitely gross when your kids puts the landyard in their mouth when 100 other people have held it that day. hah Wonder why they still do it at DL. Great video content. Preparing for my 3rd trip to DL in August and my first time taking a child.
I've gotten that red card a few times in Disney World before. It was probably 6 years ago.

I remember going to Disney world early 2000 and several times being handed a stop watch to hold in line.

I’ve had to carry those cards to cast members at a Disney World. They’re white in Florida. It’s been that way in Florida for years

So interesting to see the differences between this park and the WDW parks! Btw, back in the early 2010s we definitely got those red cards for wait time tracking at WDW. I’m not sure when they stopped… probably when Magic Bands began and they could track your every move!
I got one in 2016 or 2017 at Mine Train, so they went at least until then!
This is so fascinating to me - I never got a red card and had no idea. I had watched something on TV about the elaborate crowd management system they have at WDW and I guess I just thought it was always like that. I guess all that whiz-bang crowd monitoring is pretty new. It makes sense that it was facilitated by MagicBands. I love learning about this stuff. 🤓

I was wondering have you heard of an app called standby skipper it’s a service that automatically checks for and books lightning lanes for you. It’s a separate paid service it’s 25 dollars for a day or 45 for a whole week so it’s not cheap but the early reviews are very positive. Anyway I would love to see a video or a review of it from you guys if you would be interested. Love your videos thanks for all the great Disney content you guys put out.
Hello! Yes, they reached out to me about trying it while it was still in beta, but I wasn’t keen on sharing my username and password for my Disney account, which is apparently required to use the service. I have lots of credit cards and tickets and special event passes in there on the regular and it just seemed a little unsafe to me to share that login. If you use it, I’d be curious to hear how it goes. Of course, I actually enjoy the sport of playing the Genie Slots at this point, so I probably wouldn’t use it for that reason. 😂

I remember one time we got a red card for Soarin at Disneyland. Unfortunately, we had to wait for another person so we just gave it to the person behind us.

Before the pandemic, I got the red card on a lanyard many times at WDW, but I have not seen it since.

Hi I have a question, what should I book first de individual lighting lane, like seven dwarf, or play slots to get an early Disney genie plus lighting lane in the other rides? Is really stressing me this
Hello! No need to stress over this one, Genie Plus Lightning Lane is definitely the one you should book first. If you are staying at a qualifying hotel, you can book an Individual Attraction Lightning Lane (like the one for Mine Train) starting at 7am, but it is much less competitive in those first several minutes. You should have used your magic band+. They just brought those to Disneyland resort.
