I quite enjoyed s5, I really liked statements in first person (and as you said allowed Jonny to play around a bit more) and the finale was amazing! I actually didn't care much for Martin until s5 when he got a bunch more character (for me), and I loved Jon taking the final decision into his own hands and being a rather flawed character.
I was a bit bored in s4 (and have it as my least favourite) and thought 5 changed it up enough to stick to the main material but explored a new way to do so! I agree with your critics tho, it's not the best season but a great conclusion.

The video is about your subjective experience of the season 5, so it irked me a bit when statements like "this was off" were passed as objective statements. It would've been more interesting to me to see you explore the "why?" they felt off for you.
Anywho, to me, season 5 being experimental isnt a detriment to the show. If anything, it felt very fresh to see the plot device (tapes) still being used reliably but in a different way, and then being given a very satisfying explanation for why the tapes exist in the first place. And it didnt feel like an outreach because they did experiment with the tapes before as well: having a statement giver, having the main characters give a statement/testament/gossip, hearing Gertrude record statement, having plot happen before our eye/ears. It all was new at the time.
Season 5 for me felt like a crystalisation and further definition of the horror and fear. Yes, the domains are literal real nightmares, but they serve the purpose to drive home what the fears are about.
The horrors and fear itself is all commentary of our society (norms, police, capitalism, gender, body dysphoria, drug abuse, etc.; you can check the TW on each episode).
I feel like its more interesting to listen to magnus archives through the lens of what drives fear in people, what does it say about society and humanity.
Or for example, in the majority of the show Jon grapples with coping with him being a monster, but through his monstrosity he becomes more human and humane.
And theres so much more! The show is packed with so much yummy flavour and narrative that it feels like a waste to consume the show only for its overall plot (what is currently presently happening), y'know?
Also, the show itself isn't scary at all. It is horror not because it's trying to scare people, it is horror simply because that's the genre they chose to explore some ideas. And I honestly think most horror is like that.
My 'issues' with season 5 is honestly the ending? xDDDDD
    But i'll cope.
Anyway, forgive my ramblings, I hope you can see a bit from my eyes and maybe season 5 will seem different to you.
    Happy Magnus Protocoling.
