    In this video, you get a look at how to install a new Blunami DCC and sound Decoder from SoundTraxx into an Athearn SD40.
    Blunami can be used with a regular DCC system if you want to do it that way, but, better still, you can use a handy app on your iPhone to control the model and even make any changes to the settings you want to make... All through the phone. It's so easy! It's even easier than using Decoder Pro on JMRI, and the changes can be heard and seen immediately. This is next level stuff.
    Here are links to some of the tools used in the installation process:

    Have that same engine, put up waiting on dcc. Just got started in model railroading 8 months ago. Still collecting things, to get ready.

    I can see that’s a great product, I am excited to get me a couple to try them out, thanks John!!!

    P.S. That Espee bi-livery color scheme is awesome ! I wish it was available commercially. Dang ! It looks terrific !

    Very well done and interesting video John. I watched it because I am interested the the new technology coming on the market and it the installation process. My age and eyesight don't allow me to work in HO any more. Two more reasons I got back into 3-rail O-gauge trains after I retired. Hell, I could use my Optivisor to make pancakes in the morning!

      We do have more board formats in the works as well that will work in larger scales.

    Great job demonstrating and explaining. I like the concept, although I've had lackluster experiences with many Bluetooth devices in the past on my phones, so ill be sticking to my NCE throttle for now. I think it's a great idea for dead rail, though, especially if one wanted to just experiment a bit with it.

    Well, John. You do very good instructional videos. Perfect actually. I am inexperienced in what you are doing, but your visuals and explanations are the best and give me much confidence. However. I don't want to add one more function to my phone and if it went south as phones often do I would lose my train use. Changing just a few locos doesn't make sense to me either. I am just getting into DCC in a serious way and for now I am happy with the path I have chosen. Best of luck to you as always !

    Great video. Maybe you already answered this and I missed it, but isn't the weight a big part in the engines ability pull effectively?

    This was very interesting. You make me feel like I might even be able to do this though I have trouble spelling DCC. Does removing the weight impact the performance of the locomotive?

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před rokem +1

      You can do it! I'm sure removing the weight decreases the pulling power of the loco. You know, less traction. However, with that being said, it would be a shame to have to add more power to the locomotive consist! :)

    Very Nice.
    My DC locomotive does not have a harness. It's a Athearn Blue Box F7 Unit.
    Now, I've converted ones to DCC using Decoder Buddy, but what do I use to help me with Blunami?

  • @westernstatesrailroading

    Does Blunami have the ability to consist?

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před rokem +3

      Yes! You can get more information about that on the Soundtraxx CZcams page. I'm sure they cover it in the product manual as well. I'm pretty sure you can find it on their website.

      Great video. Question about more complex lighting of locos. Say two random flashing beacons, front and rear ditchlights, number boards and head and rear lights. Can it handle all those lights?

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před rokem +3

      Your best bet is to check the specs on the soundtraxx website to see if it has enough aux outputs for your project.

    Thanks John! Can you save locos settings to a file on the cell phone?

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před rokem +2

      There's no need to store anything on the phone other than the app because the app reads the information directly from the decoder. All the information is stored in the decoder.
      If you're asking because you would like to copy settings to a different loco, you can still do that with JMRI because the decoder acts like any other DCC decoder if you choose not to access it with the phone.
      This is a very versatile product.

    • @donaldkormos5529
      @donaldkormos5529 Před rokem +2

      @@tsgmultimedia Really asking about backing up settings ... to restore say a bunch of custom CVs after a decoder malfunction because of track shorts or whatever. Nice thing about Blunami is that JMRI might never be needed.

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před rokem +2

      @@donaldkormos5529 I see what you're saying. I don't know TBH. I'm assuming that the app simply reads what is in the decoder when you connect to the loco. I might be wrong about that. One failsafe measure you could use is to back it up on DecoderPro in JMRI. If you do that, you can always simply rewrite the settings info to the decoder that way.
