The 1975 have their own sound and Halsey has her own sound. The best thing here is she made this song her own, used the same vibe she uses in her own music. I do prefer the original but I really like this too and the Die Young mash up. It's done well. I first listened to this when I barely knew the song and lyrics and liked it. Now, knowing the song and lyrics to it very well and knowing her and The 1975 much better, I can't believe she changed the lyrics to that. Wow, she's brave, whether or not they are about Matty like everyone thinks they are.

Personally, I like the extra lyric changes and such since it adds a layer onto the original song. It gives a new perspective that I seriously think is really cool. That being said, I don't like how minimalist and deflated the song sounds. It's so slow and plodding without enough instrumentation. Also her voice is just sorta grating to me. I dunno, she just doesn't have the right sound that I personally enjoy. My two cents.

I don’t understand why people hate this cover so much. It’s a cover, it’s not meant to be the original. YUNGBLUD mashed like, 50 songs together in his Live Lounge performance and everyone seemed to be fine with it. The Ke$ha part fit seamlessly into the song, and the harmonizer sounded great. Personally, for the tone of ILIWYS, I thought the original was too upbeat in the context of the album, but this cover serves it much better, as it definitely sounds similar to Somebody Else. She didn’t “butcher” or “ruin” the song, she simply made it her own. And for those who say to “get over Matty,” she’s not still hung up on him, even though they did things together in the past, they’re still friends to this day.
The reason the original is way better is because, Matty always pours his soul into anything he sings. She isn't putting any soul at all. Also you can't up The 1975.
