  • It's hospital week across the nation and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare chose this time to focus on a growing issue for those in healthcare - workplace violence.

I remember when we would take my grandma to the hospital whenever she wasn't feeling well before she passed away.
One time we took her and they told us they needed to run a few tests on her and we could go home and they would call us.
When we came back we discovered that they had put her in a private room and had done an enormous amount of tests on her.
Without consent they had run her bill up to almost $20,000 which was billed mostly to her insurance but we still had to pay a lot of money out of pocket.
As it turns out, she was drinking a bit too much coffee and she was slightly dehydrated as a result.
The staff at that hospital took my grandma, her insurance and our family for as much money as they possibly could.
I'm not saying everyone who works at a hospital is foul like that but I suspect this kind of thing happens far more often than will ever be reported.
Recently I read that over 60% of people who file bankruptcy do it due to medical bills.
I don't like it but it's not really a surprise to me that bad things are happening to healthcare workers.
For example, when my mother argued about my grandma's bill, they treated my mother like she was ignorant.
I understood healthcare was high before because hospitals sometimes had to eat bills for people who have no insurance, but now everyone is forced to have it yet the prices still skyrocket when it comes to medical attention.
Perhaps a news story about that topic is worth investigating.
Perhaps there is a link between the violence at the hospitals and the enormous bills associated with healthcare..?
