I bought a Blue Chip pick! (Comparisons made with similar PrimeTone picks)

  • NOTE: At 9:58, I meant to say I thought the BLUE CHIP would be brighter. (I held up the Blue Chip but said PrimeTone...apologies for the confusion).
I don't know what I expected from this pick. Maybe I built it up in my mind as having some mythical tone properties. I find it to be slightly louder and slightly clearer in tone, but otherwise very similar, sound-wise, to the PrimeTone. If you have good ears attuned to subtleties, you will likely appreciate it. If you have tin ears, you may wonder what all the hype is about.
Where the Blue Chip really stands apart is in its grippiness and feel. It feels like an extension of your hand. The more you play with it, the more you will like it.
Comparisons made with the Dunlop PrimeTone Sculpted Smooth rounded triangle and small triangle. The PrimeTones are 1.3mm. The Blue Chip 50 is 1.25mm.

I have no affiliation with Blue Chip nor have I received any compensation from them. This is simply a customer review.

I use Primetone. I bought a blue chip and sent back because I couldn’t tell a difference from the Primetone. Especially for the price. I like the 1.5 triangle.

Not a huge difference tone wise, I agree. But I find the Blue Chips have better grip in the fingers where Primetones can sometimes be a little slippery...unless you get the Primetone Grips. Not sure if the smooth and the grippy Primetones are the exact same material or not.

@@prodigaljess I agree on the grip. I do use the grippy ones for that reason. They say it’s the same material even though it’s a different color.

Blue Chip lasts years. Great people make the best picks ever. I’m not interested in anything else.

Great Review !!! I too am an idiot... I bought 2 BCs. It's Placebo (like Sugar pills). A great pick to checkout is Hense picks (From Germany).

Haha. It's like buying NATO straps for a nice wristwatch, rather than buying a new watch. It cures the G.A.S. for a bit.
I'll check out Hense picks. My family is part German.

I would too, ordinarily, but it goes back in one spot after every use and doesn't leave the house.

If you pay a lot, then you keep track of it. Not to be rude, but I think trying not to lose something should be a priority than to not get something nice for ourselves. I absolutely love my BlueChips. I have an antique little box i keep them in, with a capo and not only do i not loose the picks, but the box and picks etc makes sitting down and playing a much more focused and productive time; instead of just willy-nilly chaos, haha. Best of luck to you and yours.
