  • Battlefield 5 has officially received the last content update and all focus is now on Battlefield 6. In this video take a look back at the life of Battlefield 5, trying to put my finger on why the game is considered by many to be a failure. From the initial teaser trailer to the most recent Elite skin, this video looks at the whole story.

EA*. Most of the time Dice are the ones that stand with the player base pov's. EA are the ones that are the "leads" and direct Dice in a certain way. Remember Dice works for EA not the otherway around.
Lastly this isn't to say Dice never makes mistakes. But I have to give benefit of the doubt that MOST of the time the decisions come down the river from EA, most idea's never go up the river from Dice to EA. Welcome to corporate America.

@@Killa162 No, it's not all EA. Not everything has to do with the publisher. People have to accept that the people who created the games they loved are gone. Replaced by cotton counters who are professional cock suckers. Dice is not some oppressed entity. Dice isn't going to magically disappear if they had a failed game. They're just going to change the setting and keep up with the pandering and PC bs. When the developers leave the studio they're going to be replaced by someone who corporate feels is necessary. Look at Corporate EA, look at DICE. They're in Sweden. They're most likely going to be replaced by someone who doesn't deserve the job for the sake of being inclusive.

German forces will capture the first and second trench lines. After this they will try to break through the second main line of defense which is the outer part of the city. Finally they will push on to take the middle of the city, winning the game
D-day would look like this:700 tickets on the first sector to storm the beachhead and get to the sea wall. Once they reach the sea wall they will breach it and capture the rally point. After this they go into the bunkers and clear them out, making spawning on them for the Germans impossible. Lastly they capture German HQ. then it can proceed like a bf1 operation and move to a new map, preferably the town of Caretan, and they capture that.

Just wish they would have made it more like bf1 where they kept it accurate to history and also had a perfect blend of known and lesser known battles. I also wish operations were better, I was super exited but they turned out to be half of bf1 operations, I did also like the bf1 premium, you like ~16 extra maps, the game cost $60 if you get premium you get $120 dollars worth of game for $100, that two games for 1 and 2/3rds because the premium cost $40

    • @dm1i

    • @Evan056
      @Evan056 Pƙed 4 lety +5

@@dm1i Premium does guarantee content delivery and timeliness of said delivery though. BF1 received about 10 more maps over it's cycle in much more predictable fashion that BF5 did. Yes, it divides the community, but microtransactions mean that a game is only alive for as long as it is profitable. On one side, you pay money to guarantee content. On the other you have to pay time and money to "do your part" to make sure the game stays alive. Over time they can squeeze more money out of you through their live service model than they can the paid DLC model. GTA Online is the biggest and worst example of them doing just that.
If we want to be on the side of, they should just put it in the base game, I agree. But that would likely mean that any post release content would be character cosmetics (worthless garbage) or actual guns/modes (which is worse than paying for maps, imo). Every game should be able to stand on its own as a base game. The DLC should expand the experience, not be a mandatory part of "making it a finished product". I think we'll agree on that at least.

A good way to have implemented women into the game would have been to get rid of the Sweden campaign, which seem so fantastical and instead replaced it with a fleshed out, gritty tale of a woman who was a French resistance fighter in 1940, at the height of German reign in France. This would’ve given a real sense of “hey look, this is a really believable tale of the heroism of resistance fighters facing one of the most horrific regimes the world has ever seen, and beating them in more ways than one”.
The fact that Swedish maps came out at release instead of the D-Day landings or the Eastern Front is ridiculous, as they completely skipped over two of the largest conflicts the world has ever seen, and THEN they didn’t even release D-Day OR the Eastern front makes the devs seem completely clueless to what the community actually wants. They could’ve also released Kokoda, pitting the Japanese against the Australians in extremely close quarter fighting, with mortars and artillery falling everywhere, creating a sense of absolute chaos which would definitely provide some epic “only in Battlefield” moments. The same goes for Stalingrad, which would have the same CQC element but with tanks and aircraft as well. Don’t even get me STARTED on what they could’ve done with the Battle Of Kursk, I mean; 64 or 100 players, tons of tanks, aircraft and artillery (I mean actual artillery pieces that you could control) along with infantry on a large, relatively flat map with no cover could have been ridiculous.
The gun customisation could have also been similar to BF1, where you get the cooler stuff thru crates (similar to alpha packs in R6S) that you get after performing well in battle and only get mainly iron sights, muzzle brakes and suppressors along with bayonets on some guns, meaning that the skill to use each weapon would be a lot higher than just MMG camping in one spot all game. The MG42 in the first reveal trailer looks absolutely epic (even tho it’s not historically accurate) and I just felt like a BF1 system of skins would have been a lot better than what they have in BFV. I think the reason why it was like this is because of how massive Fortnite got, where you would pay for different skins that have no impact on how you do in-game, but instead only allow you to look cool.
This is just my opinion and I wrote this at 2:30 in the morning, but feel free to tell me if I’m wrong in any way :)

Why Battlefield 5 “failed”: the game was not an enjoyable playing experience for tens of thousands of players. 1. Dicking around with TTK. 2. Social aspect was and still is broken: limiting squads to 4 is stupid; you cannot join on friends; cannot switch sides, etc. 3. Team balancing is non existent, often leading to total ruin for 1 side. 4. Network lag and server locations: why does the game allow someone with a 400ping to stay in the server? How difficult is this to fix? Seems pretty easy... combined, these 4 items are what truly ruined the game for most people.

Leadership doesn't care about the community. The community managers are lacking in their abilities to engage with the community. The excuse "We won't share anything unless it's 100 percent in place" is horseshit. A bunch of the devs that cared about the game left. Pushing stupid cosmetics for money was another failure. Changing the TTK. Dice and EA need to apologize to the community.

Some feature were really nice and some felt gimmicky. Change is good, change just to say you have changed is not.
I like that tanks have limited ammo, Shit Buckets can't zoom around the map the entire round wiping out entire squads then going on their marry way. (They can still do this even with limited ammo, but get a solid squad that communicates effectively and theyll be easy points).
Building things. I liked building things, but it wasn't rewarding to have em up. Never felt like me putting up a wall of sandbags was seen as beneficial, and 90% of the time I would get frustrated having to constantly vault over them. Plus, friendly tanks would just plow right through them anyway, seconds after you constructed them. Maybe if building was kept to reinforcing destroyed buildings it would be alright, but as I see it, feeble wood planks don't really make for an effective or fun mechanic. Maybe if the points earned from building things like ammo depots were much higher, and were much harder to destroy, I'd spend precious seconds building them. But for now, thats somekne else's job haha.
I like 3D spotting, controversial I know. But for those of us who play casually, it's not much fun to spot somebody, run after them, but have them dissappear off the map a couple seconds later forcing us to clear an entire building they've already left. In BFV I became very frustrated with the spotting system. Dropping a yellow area where the enemy was, instead of just spotting them. Some features in BFV shouldve only been in competitive play. I realize that may be harder to implement in a game, but if ypu can create an enture map wih brand new mechanics, you can make it so a yellow area appears around where you spot. Personally, I'd pick BF1 over any other battlefield game. It feels like a game you can just sit down and enjoy, hop into any vehicle and you could do alright in it. Dont get me wrong, the kills you get when flying a helicopter in BF4 and 3 feels amazing because it's so hard to be effective in those vehicles. But being able to overwhelm a level 140 player whos been camping in a tank most of the match, is better. I hate firing one missile at a tank in BF4, and not being able to damage them anymore because they activate( .... Uhh... Forgot the name of it, area defense?) And either drive away to safety or instantly find me with heat sensor and blast me to bits

And the tides of war model works it's just Dice never used it to their advantage and the content wasn't good. for me, as the scenery gets more detailed snipers become harder to see and i often get killed by a pixel 1 mile away, this just removes the fun a lot. its for me why their best game was bf2142, bigger squads who worked as a team, barely any lonewolfs. plus to get health & rrevives you needed medics, for ammo you needed support, so you always wanted those people near. recon also had the amazing lambert to let them play CQ effectively. you could go on a server and in a few mins find squads all working together and playing objectives. plus a decent commander organising the attacks with huge titans was epic in scale.

Okay. Let me first say that I'm a fan of your channel, I watch your content regularly and I always look forward to your discussion type videos such as this one.
I also must say that I've not played BFV at all beside the open beta, so I haven't experienced all the frustrating things about the game.
But I have to strongly disagree with your comments on team play and the "casual fps gamer" stance there. Ultimately, Battlefield is a _team play_ oriented game. Now, I totally get what you're saying by just wanting to sit down after work and just have fun and play some games, and I don't blame you at all for wanting Battlefield to be that game. But that's my point.
Battlefield wasn't originally like that. Battlefield 2 was really that last Battlefield that was developed by DICE before EA totally owned them, and Battlefield 3 was the first game that really specifically was made to compete with COD, after the Bad Company games failed at that task. Really, you can look this up, BF3 was _made_ to take down COD. And it even kinda worked. Tons and tons of people were drawn to this franchise with BF3, and I don't blame DICE at all for at least trying to get the franchise back to it's root after being so far away from it for so long.
Problems is that BFV is just a giant mess of a Frankenstein's monster. So many things have been ingrained into the DNA of this franchise, that forcing teamplay into this hectic arcade-y gameplay style just isn't gonna work to try and lose this COD mentality towards gameplay.
Now again, I must say that I haven't played BFV for really a number of reasons, but appreciate at least the thought of trying to get some kind of team play going. And also, I must admit that I haven't even played BF2. I just didn't know about this franchise when BF2 was going, and now that game is pretty much dead. But I'd really like to see a "true Battlefield 2 successor", not some market researched focus tested Call of Duty wanna be garbage.
Whoa, that comment got a little out of hand. Anyway, thanks for reading my little rant xD

i liked to lack of 3d spotting but only when TAA was disabled because this version of TAA is one of the worst i've seen. Its on par with the unreal engine one. That TAA was extremely blurry and grainy and when looking at longer ranges its seemed like the enemy soldier fused with whatever was near him so you couldn't see him at all. No 3d spotting is good only when the visibility i great (no extreme blur, super dark areas,...) Attrition never bothered me at all but i can see why it bothered some people. For BF6 or whatever it will be called, attrition only for tanks and planes to give infantry a break and stop some tankers to camp. Rearm stations only at the base HQ and the closest flag from your HQ. That might be good.
Airfields weren't present at all ( only 1 or 2 maps but that was a flag not you HQ).
BF5's UI is horrible, needs so many clicks to do one thing, needs ages to quit (but that was already the same with bf1), too much clutter when in game (was much better in bf3 and bf4, the UI was mostly to the 2 bottom sides),...
For me the way the game looked at the reveal trailer (but without the wacky customization) seemed way better than what we got.

This is my take and it goes into the foundations of what Aka-Art looks at in this great video.
What I see now as the primary cause of the problems we face with Battlefield - the model of working on and releasing games, as independent works, is obsolete and overdue for change.
That change is to move from creating and releasing independent Battlefield games to creating, continuously improving, and maintaining a Platform - on which all Battlefield games are run.
Players no longer purchase one Battlefield title. They purchase access to the Platform. On that Platform each Battlefield title is a different era and all are running the latest engine, the latest UI design, the latest server infrastructure, the latest professional eSports infrastructure, the latest community competition ladders (which is the eSports software configured for non-pro competition ladders).
The Platform's integrated technologies become the main Battlefield IP and all titles become content, all using that same underlying technology.
Titles become curated content, selected to be a part of a Portfolio of always-up-to-date games. Players pay for a model that suits them: monthly, yearly subscription or in-game purchases aka Fortnight or Warzone.
The platform would be matured in a way that an independent game release could not.
Modding could be incorporated as an integral part of the business model because Mods now add to the richness of the platform instead of extending the life of an obsolete game that no longer makes money.
The platform would be designed to support Mods from the ground up with excellent APIs and an evolving well designed but small set of tools. Mods could initially be classed as experimental but awards and sponsorship given to the best as they mature towards becoming their own game type. Hosted on the platform in a category that fits with the platform.
Community server infrastructure would grow and mature to support very sophisticated administration. Game types and modes would become configuration options rather than being baked into the game itself, giving excellent flexibility for communities to shape their own experience - as was done in the past from BF1942 to BF3 and BF4. Configuration sets created by Dice could also be available for standard vanilla experiences.
Battlefield "the next game" becomes Battlefield "the universe".
The hiatus of multi-year, buggy, reinvented, inconsistent, unsatisfactory, feature missing games would be gone. Replaced with a dynamic, ever-fresh, mature, stable, consistent, sophisticated theme-park of Battlefield titles of the game types, modes and eras we want to experience.
There would be something for everyone. A large part being player managed in their respective communities yet not fragmenting the overall Battlefield experience. Maintaining cohesion using well designed UI and UX. Evolving a design that supports the sophistication yet being clear and easy to use. The platform is designed as an integrated system of game titles, game types and modes.
The Battlefield game is dead, long live the Battlefield universe.

Main reason V failed was the total lack of proper and working anti-cheat, and it's a fact. No server balance? I can live with it. TTK changes? I can live with it. Seen Misaki's army at Rotterdam or Arras? I can live with it. Have a clown with aimbot and radar cheat, in 7 out of 10 servers, killing me across maps, almost every day since day 1, and ea/dice doing nothing? No thanks. 1200h was enough. Uninstalled it back in April, and never looked back again. Especially now without support. And be ready: Battlefield 6, will be just the same situation.

I completely disagree on your point about forced squad play. That has been a core element of the game since bf2, and why the series was better than cod or the other fps's. Dumbing down the game for the casuals is the wrong thing to do.
That said, the way the implemented team play where they punished not doing it instead of rewarding doing it, was the wrong approach, it just piled on to the sensation that ea/dice were scolding us for something.

The worst thing they did with Battlefield is call it Battlefield. It's basically Bad Company 2 style arcade gameplay which was ifferent to the previous Battlefield games. Bad Company was the arcadey version of the Battelfield series...it wasn't actually meat to be a Battlefield game. It was their attempt at competing with COD on the arcadey run and gun style gameplay. Sadly Battlefield 3 carried on with that Bad Company style and that was it. Battlefield 2 was the last proper Battlefield game tbh. After that it's just Bad Company style game using the Battlefiled monicker. Thats why so many original Battlefield players moaned so much about making it a bit less chatoic and arcadey and what they meant by going back to it's roots.... and they didn't mean like Bad Company. Sadly Dice/EA had the easiest job with the biggest possible resources at their disposal and Fecked it up from start to finish. It annoys me when people talk like BF3 and BF4 etc... were classic battelfield games...no they weren't .. Thats only because most peoples introduction to the series started with the Bad company games so thats the type of fast arcadey action they expected in BF games from then on.

They swindled the main player base on money due to the fact that they charged us for getting The De Luxe Edition and we got nothing of what they promised. WhereÂŽs the fun in that? Well they laughed all the way to the bank.
They never put USSR in a WW 2 game, huge mistake. Norway instead of USSR. Theres no sence in that.
No Hard Core, CÂŽmon now itÂŽs a Battlefield game. That makes no sence either.
No Rush. Rush is Battlefield. Conquest, Rush and Team Death Match is what makes a Battlefield game great.
Grind was a very popular game mode, why not have it all the time?! That makes no sence.
Renting servers wasnÂŽt even in the game. that makes no sence.
Nerfing the AT-mines.What is the meaning of being an support if I canÂŽt take out a tank with whatÂŽs in my storage capacity? Handing out ammo? And not being able to refill my hand grenades not even from an ammo crate is just ridiculous. Shame on DICE.
Altering the TTK. A very heavy sigh! Rolling my eyes. Go back to BF3 & 4 and see how quick you kill and die in that game.
And the long loading time for getting in and out of a match makes it not appealing.
Not able to switch sides in a game, meaning I canÂŽt play with my friends.
4 man squads instead of 5 man. Hello!
All the time consuming animations for getting in and out of vehicles and not being able to choose what side I want to get out on. It is annoying to say at least. The animations are nicely done, so no take on that.
Time to spawn. Why do I have to wait longer to spawn after IÂŽve been meleed compared with being shot? That makes no sence. A death is a death.
There are so many wrongs that could have been avoided so easily. But they had to invent the wheel again. Well let me tell you that square wheels doesnÂŽt run smoothly.
And this is just what came on top of my list why they lost so big on the Battlefield.
NO,I ainÂŽt gonna pre order the next BF. IÂŽve been on the Battlefield since Bad Company and I always loved DICE and I was truly happy for them going big and cashing in on their awesome games. But when it comes to Battlefield 5, I feel betrayed.

I'm cautiously optimistic that with the additional development time given to the next Battlefield game and the fact that DICE won't be working on another project like Battlefront at the same time, that DICE can get it right this time. DICE has proven that they can create fantastic games in the past. The thing that scares me is that most of those developers have left DICE and the current management team in place brought us BFV. It's make or break time for the franchise.

The reason it sucks mainly comes down to wanting a bigger market. That’s it. They wanted to expand and dumb down BF for more money. Infantry focus, chopped up maps, constant TTK changes, focus on cosmetics and the live service model taken from Fortnight. It wasn’t battlefield, it was EA’s attempt at COD

Every time I reinstall this game and attempt to play it the progression system is broken and the "Could not fetch your report" bug is happening at the end of matches. This has happened the last 3 times I've installed it. It's insane their systems break and go down as often as they do.

What really sucks to me is the fact that we didnt have iconic battles like dday and pearl harbor etc

The tech just wasn’t there :( still can’t believe this game was so fucking bad in comparison to past titles, so sad

The biggest killer for me by far is the rampant hacking that goes unchecked. Devs seem either unable or unwilling to do anything about it...

excellent video and some great points made. We have all been frustrated with BF5 and i think it was the right decision to pull the plug considering how badly the game has been managed since the reveal.
instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, the dev team should have looked at what modes and elements made previous titles popular, instead of making a list here, i'll just summarise and state that unless DICE stick to their initial vision and stop deviating from it in order to pander to the Wokoharam brigade from Soymalia or because there were power plays with office politics resulting in us gamers feeling like we have been shafted with a pineapple sideways.
a lot of players have gone back to previous titles and i have to say, BF4 and B1 have had some great community servers set back up.

Let's not forget a WW2 game without the Eastern front? Surely that's a big downside before you even talk about the game.

I personally don’t care about historical accuracy as long as the game plays well, for example I shouldn’t be having problems whenever I attempt to slide or climb over an object

Thanks for this video, but is it possible to make another video that highlights some of the good aspects of BFV that were not in previous BF titles and would be beneficial to the next title?
BF is dear to our hearts and it's sad to see this negative feedback from the community (Which is valid), but it's not all bad. BFV definitely had its downs; it also had ups.
I'm trying to look at the glass half full and I'm sure many of the community do as well đŸ˜ŠđŸ™đŸŸ

It’s a mixed bag in my opinion, I honestly believe the character play and mechanics apart from animations are the best we ever seen. For me personally the micro transactions allways ruin it, especially for those of us that remember different. Some of the maps a large, but that wouldn’t have been a problem if we could find parked tanks and other modes of transport like they used to. At end of day all advancements come with change and downsides. It’s important to remember how great past games were, but it’s equally as important not to get stuck there. Change can be scary, but doesn’t make it a bad thing. Hopefully they learnt some lesson and so have we. Battlefield forever ❀

The decision to not include ANY of the iconic battles of WWII just baffles me. I would say (most) people have in their mind what they expect/want whilst others are happy to explore lesser known moments of the war. I can remember talking about how epic the Normandy landings would be in a new BF game.......the possibilities........whilst not a deal breaker it was a shame IMO. Bundle in mostly rehashed BF1 guns, exclude certain factions, mix in the absolute dumpster fire that was the marketing campaign and BF5 was DOA! Game reduced to ÂŁ35 after 14 days, yikes!

Well said! BFV was created with financial gain as a priority, that was obvious from the beginning. Now I get financial goals and how investments work and that goals have to be met. But the sheer arrogance this team has and had judging by the comments in the prologue to the game and when it was live... This game would be the best we've ever experienced, every FPS player would wish mouth-watering that they were at home playing Battlefield V, the battles would portray and touch every aspect of what 'we' would feel World War 2 to be like because of the amazing scenery and locations these designers came up with. What an absolute joke. It's what EA wanted, demanded for the designers would be enriched beyond their believes. This is the future of every single business that has to deal and listen to the big players out there. How do we, not the little companies surrounding us, no how do we get the most profit with at least effort as possible. There were enough of ideas that suited the wishes of the community, EA wouldn't give green light because it would significantly down their prospects on the long term since they would need more designers that would cost them a 'fortune'. And also, some possible ideas/features would really change the shape of the game so that the initial Battlefield V would become a different Battlefield V. So the money got passed to another project, which is an honest move in my opinion. Now just hope they can deliver us a great follow-up on Battlefield 3 and 4, since that's most probably the next environment.

I hated support and recon in bf1. The thing that made bf4 great was the fact that you can get c4 on both those classes, now it's locked to the assault class that should've been engineer. Even the repair tool is locked to support and the limped charge is shit now against tanks.
