your commentary was just as entertaining as the interview and the interview was crazy good!
Tbf richard did say in real life he didnât want her arrested and just got a restraining order
Yes Richard seems so lovely like he wants you to think he is. Did you know? At the end of this series? Thatâs a disclaimer saying itâs a dramatisation at the very end of the series at the very end of the credits thatâs what it says.
Well what other details are dramatized then? Really takes away from the show for me.
@@rayeya3138 not too much. Most things are exact by the sounds of it itâs just a couple things to make it more interesting. For example in real life I believe it took 6 years before gadd could get a restraining order because as a man no one would believe it was that bad.
@@rayeya3138 It doesn't take anything away. It's a TV show not a documentary. Nowhere does Netflix present it as a documentary. Of course it is dramatized a little, if only for legal reasons. But the stalking story is clearly true.
It's women's TV from a "male perspective" so I got bored quite quickly.

I laughed so hard. Sheâs definitely lying and youâre spot on about the body language. I mean, who the hell carries a dictaphone around and would find her interesting enough to record her. Get out of here! đ
Same đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđđđ
Yes! Also, have you ever made a call in a pub? The background noise is obvious, very different from a voicemail from a stalker.
She keeps saying her lawyer friends said this and that. I put my money she has no friends because any normal person would go anywhere near her. The main reason is she's a stalker
So let me get this straight, âIâm Martha, yes I had a toy reindeer but itâs not me, itâs not trueâ.

Why are people fact checking a series as if it were a news article? The end credits clearly state, âThis program is based on real events: However certain characters, names, incidents, locations, and dialogue have been fictionalized for dramatic purposes.â
Where is the controversy again?
Iâm confused as well. Unless they called it a documentary. Fact checking it does not make sense. Because some scenes you have to make up, because you were not there and you need to make the programme flow. So I donât know what people are doing trying to be pick holes on the show. đ€·đŸââïž
Very weird indeed. I canât recall a single movie based on a true story that doesnât have events that never happened.
Tbf sheâs not denying minor details or parts you would expect to be embellished even in the artistic license aspect, sheâs denying EVERYTHING including the basic fundamental premise which has been stated as real. I think thatâs where the controversy is coming from.
I think everyone's losing their minds because the opening credits state "This is a true story" rather than "based on a true story" which is usually the case. Obviously, Netflix's legal depth would never allow this to be broadcasted if they didn't have their backs covered & I'm very surprised that none of the CZcams commentators are mentioning the disclaimer in the end credits. I guess everyone is sensationalising the whole saga even further for their own monetary gains & views đ€·đœââïž
the controversy is that the series begin with the statement ''A true story''. So IF she has never been to jail means this is not a true story and its very defamatory for her indeed.
Iâd say you hit the nail on the head when you said that you donât know this much about a person without spending a significant amount of time with them. More likely than not there were some embellishments/dramatizations made in the show (like the prison sentencing) to give the story a proper ending but Iâd say just by watching this interview alone that theyâve managed to portray this woman flawlessly.
I read, in Scotland, if it is not an honours degree, it is called "ordinary degree".
Richard Gadd has admitted that the court sentencing scene was a dramatic contrivance, in reality she was never held to account by the law. I agree with you, I don't think the show needed that scene, it could have bee ended another way. I suspect the truth is she carried on stalking him to a lesser intensity right up until the show went out and gained traction. Most stalking cases continue on indefinitely. Nobody expected this show to go as big as it has done though.
You canât say âThis is a true storyâ and add drama contrivance. Thatâs why thereâs a âBased on a true storyâ and âSome of the scenes are Dramatizedâ statement instead
Netflix don't give a screenplay by a jobbing comedian the money & marketing they did here. They will have researched it, spoken to third parties etc, most likely including the previous victim. They knew they had a great story & casted it perfectly.
I agree that they probably didn't think it would be a No.1 show in multiple countries. But if most of the central themes were not true they would be facing a multi-million pound lawsuit & Richard Gadd would be ruined. TG is right, her body language and facial tics show she is lying.
The one mistake they made is not thinking that with the power of Google all people had to do was type 'Scottish Lawyer female stalker'. I identified her in under 5 minutes!!. That's where they f*cked.up, they even said she wouldn't recognise it was about her???. How many people called Richard Gadd has she stalked? đ Changing your character's name to Donny doesn't hide it that well.
But like TG I believe him because he included highly personal stuff e.g his relationship with a transsexual woman and his rape by his mentor. I think she did contact his parents and she definitely sent the 41000 e-mails.
He will have all the data.
She's ill and potentially dangerous.
Good show though!! đ
@@angeleyes3396 The statement about things being dramatized is in the end credits.
Anything in the opening credits is atmospheric. Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Fargo, Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch--they all claimed in the opening credits to be true. None are. It was all for atmosphere. Fargo was very loosely based on true events, but they say in the opening credits that the story is presented exactly as it happened. It isn't. If you see a statement in the opening credits that something is true, never believe it. It's for effect most of the time.
Anything official that covers legality is in the closing credits. There is such a statement in the closing credits of Baby Reindeer. It's commonly done in film and television.
â@@glassribbon4219Yh "Based on true story" means "story is heavily diluted for entertainment purposes"
Perhaps in Gadd's mind, he kind of needs that kind of poetic justice for Donny? (and for audience as well?). I think the court scene is reasonable in the drama. After seeing the drama, I was somewhat surprised how a lawyer can be so bad about spelling. I know it is not the point and we realise she is mentally unstable.
Her nephew KevinMuir from Edinburgh confirmed she went to prison for 4 months
And that's why she was able to truthfully say she didn't go to jail for 9 months and that part of the series isn't true.

You made a great point about whether piers would interview a man who had been charged with all sheâs been charged with. The differences in the way men and women are treated from a legal perspective is truly baffling and needs to be addressed.
I think men on average get charged with 60% longer sentences for the same crime as women do.
I think piers was being extra careful because he is dealing with an unhinged lawyer. He doesn't want to be in season 2.
@@dolltron6965 he was asking very pressing questions. He literally asked about her boyfriend. Didnât seem like he was careful to me.
@@user-go7zy3fc5f that 60 percent thing is cap. Just like how people say black people get longer sentences than white.
please remember the centuries and centuries of a man being in charge of woman in alll freaking aspects of her life, dont narrow down your look on this one aspect where man are treated harsher than woman, see the whole freaking picture because it is the whole freaking picture that determines that little puzzle
@@bobbob9619 You wrote that with such confidence, if only you had as much truth as you have confidence it would have been good. Unfortunately statistics do not back up your claim
The reference to Brent was spot onđ, the bit that got me was avoiding answering questions about her "boyfriend" but then throwing in "FIVE years...yea five years together"đ
She also looks like the woman from Brentâs blind date đ
My biggest takeaway from the interview with Morgan - when asked about the voicemails she said "unless he was following me around the Holy Arms taping me". Who in their right mind would think of that as a possibility for the existence of 106 voicemails? But of course in the show she apparently was taping conversations she had with Gadd. So of course this a reasonable explanation for how they have her speaking in voicemails - because its something she has experience with. It doesn't seem unreasonable to follow somebody around with a hidden tape recorder because she (allegedly) has done it herself

Richard Gadd has said the real Martha didn't go to prison. If you look up MSN article "Why the Real Martha Scott from Netflix's Baby Reindeer didn't go to prison" by Amelia Harvey outlines all previous interviews Richard Gadd gave stating the real Martha didn't go to jail, she is no longer in his life & it's resolved. Richard did say they tweeked some things in the miniseries from real life events to protect real life identities. The going to jail part in the miniseries was one of the tweeks.
In that case it's not a true story. She should sue.
@@janebrown896no she shouldnât because she would lose. They state in the end of the episodes that stuff is dramatised

Thank you for this, it had me howling with laughter! Spot on observations too.
He said this is a true story but he said some incidents and screen have been dramatised
That really pisses me off tbh what is real and what has been "dramatised"? He lied about her being jailed so it does make me wonder what else. Not saying he wasn't stalked, harrassed or abused but given the things that he says happened, its not little inimportant things he is talking about and he made it really easy to find her, sure she did come out by herself but people were already easily finding her but nobody knows who the real Darrien is, a man who repeatedly abused him and r@ped him and Richard Osman said everybody in that business knows who he is!
The way he was portrayed if accurate its clearly not a one off, its likely he done it a lot before and since Gadds expriences. Speaking as somebody who has experienced SA I don't understand why he wouldn't name him or be taking legal action and to have a whole industry know about it but nothing is done, it's like another Saville coverup!
