Camino de Santiago Days 21-25 | Letting Go at Cruz de Ferro (2023)

- Cruz de Ferro, also known as the Iron Cross, marks an important milestone on the Camino de Santiago. The tradition of leaving a stone at the base of the cross was a significant spiritual experience of letting go of heavy burdens in my past. After my moment at the Iron Cross, I continued onwards, facing a steep descent into Molinaseca and by far the second hardest day on the Camino Frances. Shenanigans ensue when I make new friends along the Camino, and we even catch La Fiesta de La Encina in Ponferrada.

Those views!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍
The views are truly unforgettable, aren't they? 😍
Leaving for my fourth Camino next week and watching this to send my mind there a little early. One of the better camino vlog series I've seen!
The more I watch the more I want to go!
🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
You would LOVE it! So much natural beauty everywhere 💜 I'm still dreaming of it...
Hi Jen, you may not have noticed but the corn fields were cropping up. (Corn, crops) ha ha. Chris from Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺
Café con Leche is life! 😅 (en serio :)
Great idea to hold the stone in your pocket and feel it as you go. I brought mine from Arizona, and didn't think about it much until i reached the cruz de fierro. It was a cold drizzly morning, and there was a huge herd of people, along with a fair amount of traffic (which i did not expect). It was a LOT more emotional to lay down my rock (a fossil from the west) than i had expected. Just then my best camino amigos arrived at the base, and respectively gave me space as i laid it down. Wonderful people!
Jen, you inspire me. I was debating doing it again this coming spring (I am nearly 70), and seeing your bright face, beaming with happiness at every step, reminded me of how I felt when i did it, almost a decade ago.
So, as i write this, I have decided. I am going to walk it again in 6 months. For the first time in my life, i am truly free. I have money, time and no commitments. This will jump start the rest of my life.
Jen, from the bottom of my heart, thank you! 💝
James, your comment has truly touched me. Thank you so much for sharing. I love your story about your experience at the Cruz de Ferro. Somehow it really is an emotional experience to leave your rock there - I still can't quite put it into words. I am so incredibly moved by your decision to walk it again next year after watching my videos. The Camino awaits you with open arms 🤗 💜 Buen Camino, my friend ✨
Jen its been so much fun to watch you, more and more, on your journey... you are so upbeat, and enthusiastic - I looved when you freaked out between Cruz de Ferro and Molinaseca about, how beautiful it all is... reminded me of my two caminos... looking so much forward to your next 'leg' 💖
Haha, I can't help but get excited when I see such breathtaking views! It's like my inner cheerleader comes out. Thanks for joining me on this adventure! 💜
What a beautiful video! 🥰
You are so kind!! Thanks Tim, buen Camino :) 💛
I love Ponferrada....good job .....BUEN CAMINO!
Ponferrada was so beautiful. I definitely wish I had more time to explore there! Next time! Buen Camino ✨
Love the “mousetrap” over the tracks into Astorga
Awesome vid I love it!!!
Glad you enjoyed watching it!! Buen Camino, Ryan 😄
Jen, very touching when you left those two stones. Some of the towns were truly picturesque and the hostels looked so calming and inviting. Loved the background music Justin!! After each video, there is suspense and makes me anxious to see the next episode!!
Yes it was! Thanks for your comment!! Picturesque is the perfect word for the experience. Glad to hear you are excited to watch the next one!! It's coming out this afternoon! 🎊
The Cruz de Ferro was very moving. I left stones for dear friends and family members who have passed away. It was a special way to honor them and their legacy
I completely agree 💜 💜 It is a very special experience and a wonderful tradition.
I am enjoying every second of your journey!
I'm so glad! Thanks for tuning in! 🙌🏼
Most probably it was a quince (membrillo) tree.
I have the same video of the log across the little stream from Sept 30th, just past Ponferrada, I was just there ❤ and Buen Camino. 😊
Omg are you taking about the one at 30:02?? ahah 😆 I love love it! So amazing to have this beautiful shared experience with so many across the world 💜
Yes, I recognized it, and then went and looked at my videos, almost exact 💯 I only did León to Santiago, long story short going back in May to do more. Thanks for sharing been enjoying your story 🙌 It's life changing can't wait to return 😊 and Stone Boat, gotta go there ❤
@@craigkimble1467 Absolutely yes - The Stone Boat is SUCH a special place ❤ You can really feel the Camino love there
@jenontherunn Thanks, Jen great videos, u are a great soul ❤️ 🙌 so fun to watch your adventures and your courage.
I couldn't have done what u are doing when I was your age, all respect. 🫶
That´s one thing that I have to do before I die ....I will start in Germany .....
Im in Australia. That 'fruit' looks like a Chayote AKA a Choko. It's a veggie not a fruit :) Buen Camino darling. Its a great VLOG your grandbabies will love.
Who made your videos as you are walking ? Did you use a drone ?
That’s a very good question! I used my GoPro 11 which has amazing stabilization- so it reduces camera shake. I attached the GoPro to an extendable selfie stick and held my arm out. It looks VERY funny in person 😂 but the end result is the video you see here on CZcams. Pretty cool, right?!
