  • If you're encountering the "USB drive's file system is unsupported" error on your PS5, it means the PlayStation 5 is having trouble recognizing and accessing the files or the file system on the connected USB drive. To fix this issue, you can try the following steps:
    Use a Supported File System:
The PS5 typically supports the exFAT and FAT32 file systems for USB drives. Ensure that your USB drive is formatted with one of these file systems. If it's not, you might need to format it using a PC, making sure to back up any important data first.
    Use a Compatible USB Drive:
Make sure your USB drive is compatible with the PS5. It should be USB 3.0 or later for optimal performance. Some older or low-quality USB drives may not work correctly.
    Reformat the USB Drive:
If your USB drive isn't formatted with exFAT or FAT32, or if it's having file system issues, you may need to reformat it to a supported file system on a PC. This will erase all data on the drive, so be sure to back up your data before doing this.
To format the drive as exFAT (recommended for larger drives), follow these steps on a Windows PC:
Plug the USB drive into your PC.
    Open "File Explorer."
Right-click on the USB drive and select "Format."
Choose "exFAT" as the file system and click "Start."
    Ensure Proper File Structure:
Ensure that your files are organized in a way that the PS5 can recognize. For games, place them in a "PS5" folder on the root of the USB drive. For media files (music, videos, etc.), you may want to organize them into subfolders for better organization.
    Check for Updates:
Ensure that your PS5 is running the latest system software. Sony may release updates that improve compatibility with external USB drives.
    Try a Different USB Port:
Sometimes, the USB port you're using may have issues. Try plugging your USB drive into a different port on your PS5.
    Check for USB Compatibility Issues:
Some USB drives may not be compatible with the PS5. You can check the PlayStation website for a list of compatible devices to ensure your USB drive is supported.
    Reboot Your PS5:
Sometimes, a simple restart of your PS5 can help resolve USB-related issues.

Thank you so much!!! Formatting the USB to extended storage solved the issue I was having. I thought I bought a hard drive not compatible with my PS5 and was gonna look at returning it.

Thank you! You think they could at least tell you to format the disk instead of outright saying you can't use it. But I guess that's what CZcams is for 🤷🏾‍♂️

Shouldn't have to reformat.. That's just Microsoft being a dick, and not letting Sony use their patent.
