I've had this idea for so long, finally got it done! Now back to MAPs, this pushed me back in my schedule but heck it was worth it!
(also I am aware of some details being different from the novella like the snake-bite and such bcs it's been a while since I read the thing and I made a lil mistake but hey that's fine aight we can pretend it bit her in the hidden eye too)

At the ending when her kits are crying over her body, you really remember that she did that for her kits, and she never wanted to be evil. The only reason she embraced the dark forest so much was because at the end of her super edition, she said she would finally meet cats who understood why she had to do what she did. Maple shade was never a monster, instead driven by grief for her kits. It’s been stated multiple times that this is why she hates the clans, and sees to destroy them. Because she doesn’t want anymore kits to die like hers did. Wonderful job on the portrayal of her story, tears were shed!
She almost killed Sandstorm because she states the Sandstorm had everything she had ever wanted:

Mapleshade is probably one of the most relatable 'villains'. A mother's wrath is like no other! I love how you always portray the characters. So many people make them one-note but you really seem to get them and it shows in your videos! Excellent work with this~
Yeah like most villains in Warriors is your typical destroy the clans. While Mapleshade had a totally different approach to her reasoning and in a way, hers was justified. Theres so many movies with the same aspects family member dies, MC goes on rampage. and even if that's cliche its something that doesnt occur a lot in Warriors. I wish some of the books were from a queens point if view. Sure theres Bluestars prophacy but I mean she does something signifigant while not completely abandoning a normal warrior lifestyle
I do agree like maple shade has an actual reason. Like I mean she was kicked out of her lab and then she had to watch her 3 kits die and then on top of that her mate rejected her so she rightfully went insane. She wanted revenge and is still getting her revenge to this day
If anything ever happened to me my mother will be equivalent to Mapleshade no joke
@@leex9636 Even in movies, they will never kill the children of the MC. The way it is done in Mapleshade's vengeance is really refreshing from a lot of what I've seen in many books and films. She was left with little to nothing left and had to do vengeance in her death. The only book that I've seen that is close to her arc is The Count of Monte Cristo (A great classical novel, btw), and even they don't share the same plot line.

Mapleshade is hand's down my favorite character that Warriors has to offer. She's so relatable that it's hard NOT to love her. Your animation is astounding and I can actually see the emotions brought in every panel on Mapleshade's face.

There’s something about your style that made Mapleshade look especially motherly, which makes her all the more terrifying as a brutal, homicidal villain.
i have to say, this meme has given inspiration. i used to legit HATE mapleshade, but, what if she did it because she has feelings too? she was kicked out of her clan because she loved someone. she was banished to the dark forest for revenge. she watched her kits drown. her life went from amazing, to dreadful.

The part with the kits watching Mapleshade die almost made me cry. This made me realize that the kits had to watch their mother, who used to be so kind and caring, turn to almost insanity and kill those who used to be their friends and family. They lost not only their home and lives, but they also lost their mother.

- she didn't really lie about a dead cat being the father; it was assumed but she didn't exactly do anything to change it so I see your point
- the dead cat's sister completely overreacted and *attacked a QUEEN with KITS present.*
- ThunderClan threw a queen with young kits out, going against the warrior code
- she was ThunderClan and therefore wouldn't know about the danger of floods, let alone water currents - plus I'm pretty sure ThunderClan literally said she was going to be attacked if they saw her on their territory, so she couldn't wait out the flood
- Appledusk completely blamed Mapleshade for her kits' deaths and said that he never really loved her, basically treated her like an object *in front of an entire Clan* which then threw her out despite the warrior code pretty much having a rule against that
- she didn't get mad that her plan failed; she was literally traumatized and made bloodthirsty for those who indirectly caused her kits' deaths. She *got hallucinations* because of how heartbroken she was.
- she didn't really play the victim when she went to the dark forest, she was triumphant and thought she belonged there, so yeah basically proves her evilness.
I honestly like Mapleshade as a character because she was pretty well-developed until they continuously used her till she got killed in more recent books. It's annoying and repetitive to use the same villains after they've been developed.

What I absolutely love about your work is no matter which design and color palette you use for each characters, they still get recognizable by their body shapes
And that's absolutely stunning because you might be one of the few animators I know here paying attention on such things, and I absolutely love it

I really think the saddest part of Mapleshade's story is that even after death she never gets to see her kits again. Plus being kits they probably faded relatively quickly, meanwhile mapleshade was an huge personality with powerful emotion who committed horrible and memorable atrocities, enough that ages later she still hasn't faded away. They never saw each other again. I hope that at least in death Appledusk gave his kits some love and attention...

Blaze Fatal She needed to hurry though. Oakstar said she would kill her if he or a patrol found her anywhere in Thunderclan. Hiding in a bush and finding another safe place far away is exhausting for the kits.
To be fair, why go someplace far when you have a mate and a clan, who would most likely accept you in because of your kits and relationship? It was a first action and thought to go there. (I would too, so call me stupid)
The option of going to Riverclan was high that she would get accepted, she didn’t have anywhere else to go, unless she wanted to stay with that barn cat, but that was way after her kits died.

I came back to this video after so long and I still love it! I loved MapleShade back then, but I don’t know if I would still like her now lol. I still feel kinda bad for her though.
It’s amazing how you can make unique body expressions , and it’s great to see how in the beginning , Mapleshade looks so innocent , and she’s just like a young adult that fell in love , however , as the PMV goes deeper , her face.. idk , just matures ? She still have that motherly vibe on her face , and I can tell that she actually had kids once , but in expression wise , she is a killer , her expression and body language tells her that. It’s impressive how you can illustrate a character . KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

I feel so bad for Mapleshade. no matter how bad she is she still got betrayed and beaten. In the battle when the darkk forest fought the living, I really wished that I saw Mapleshade kill Appledusk again, and then Spottedleaf lol
but still i feel so bad for Mapleshade.
The only dark forest cats I feel bad for are Brokenstar and Hawkfrost.

Fun fact: One of the mapleshades vengeance writers said that the snake that killed frecklewish was a python, however pythons cant kill an adult cat.
Edit: and pythons aren’t venomous, they are constrictors. Although she supposedly died from snake venom

Adders are vipers, and vipers are venemous. It says in the book she was killed by an adder. We can't really believe what the Erins say over what the books say
I don’t think it killed her, and it spat venom in her eyes. I think it only blinded her, but I refuse to read the novella so I can’t really remember that well

The exact reason why I LOVE Mapleshade: she killed for what was rightfully hers.

Everyone in the whole situation was not innocent at all, but she still murdered cats, not because of grief, but because she couldn't face her mistake she made with Appledusk. The Erins I feel like are trying to make you sympathize with her within the book, and its just wrong. I actually LIKE Mapleshade, but its not because she is innocent, its because you get a very evil tone from her and its fun to watch what people make out of her genocide. She isn't bad but its messed up that they wrote it to make her sound like she did nothing wrong. Oh and don't kill me plz because this was 2 years ago :'3 But lets agree... those poor kittens were the only victims here-
Oh also some people are saying Frecklewish shoulda went to the Dark Forest because she watched the kits die? Yes, her hate for Mapleshade shouldn't have gone to the kittens and its just wrong that she called the poor things "half-clan creatures" but like I said no one was completely a victim here. She didn't watch them die in triumph, she didn't know what to do. Mapleshade brought them to the river at a dangerous time and Frecklewish was like a deer in headlights. Like Mapleshade, she can't have the excuse of being blinded by grief of how Mapleshade tarnished her brothers name cause he was dead, but did she kill Mapleshade? No. Frecklewish aint the victim but if Maple didn't say anything about having her kits be by a DEAD CAT, especially HER BROTHER, she wouldn't have despised her as much.
I dont remember if this was actually in the book, but didn't maple hallucinate? She wanted to make her kits happy, and the hallucinations told her to kill or something like that. I mean, the grief she felt probably would cause hallucinations anyway.
I don't think she's inno tho, but she was driven to kill. Correct me if i have any mistakes, i last read the book many many years ago and refuse to reread it because its just too sad 😢
@@flyingforest1539 I believe she did have hallucinations bc right after she’s sent out of RiverClan she stops eating or starts eating very little, only an amount to have energy to get to kill her victims. The last one (around the time Perch attacked her back for killing Appledusk ) was that Patchkit told her she succeeded and that they’re free, but I don’t think ANY of the kits would have said that.

Most people say that Mapleshade deserves StarClan because they say the cats who wronged her were mean and self-centered when in reality Mapleshade never was a good cat. She disobeyed the name of a dead guy to not be guilty of accepting a half-clan relationship, she was always manipulative, arrogant, impulsive, selfish, and never cared about the safety of others. People say that Frecklewish shouldn’t be in StarClan because she mistreated Mapleshade’s qualities, but she was just driven by grief because her dead brother was used just to get fucking innocent.

Mapleshade's smile @:25 is so sweet and genuine and it makes literally every part after it hurt 10X more because you can tell she really was excited that she was with Appledusk and that she was excited to have his babies and then literally everything that could go wrong, did. This is so GOOD.
I actually think Frecklewish deserves to be in the Place of No Stars because according to the warrior code, you must always try to rescue a kit in danger, even if it's not from your clan. Frecklewish just watched Mapleshade's kits drown.

@@aqua.dot908 Frecklewish just assumed they were Birchface’s kits when she heard that Mapleshade would be raising them alone, Mapleshade never said it herself, she just never corrected her because she wanted to get her kits accepted before she revealed the truth.

There were so many ways Mapleshade could of handled this differently and won. Don't get me wrong, I love Maple but people keep defending her actions which... No? She's a villain, she's evil, she murdered people because she was crazy. I like her as a villain and only a villain lol

Mapleshade is one heck of a character, and really is one of the best villains in the series. It makes me feel like all her loses were unjustified, even if it betrays the Warrior Code. I love how you portray her too!
Tan Judia but she also wasn’t the one that broke the warrior code, I think appledusks new girlfriend or plaything watched the kits drown either her or another riverclan she-cat and only dragged them and mapleshade out when another cat came around

I think Mapleshade is such an underrated character. She deserves a whole book not just a short adventure. Her story is fascinating and her turn from a loyal cat to a murderer is done far too short in the books. I would have loved some chapters of her becoming one of the leading cats in the dark forest as well ... but ... we just have a goddamn short adventure ... anyways ... I LOVE YOUR STILE!
I don’t think Mapleshade is underrated, she has dozens of Fanarts, multiple maps and PMV’s and handfuls of attention in Omen of The Stars.
