      Try putting in a sump. It's like a second tank and allows you to hide all your filters and equipment. Throw some bushy nose plecos in there. Also, a sump is much more forgiving as far as maintenance goes.
      Those canisters are great but you have to keep an eye on them. If not,, they plug up fast. And they are expensive and expensive to run.
      Use an old ugly tank below and hide it from sight. The bigger the better.

      Hey can anyone help? I tried out a yeast-based diy co2 system and unknowingly had the check valve the wrong way around. Now my tank (which is not stocked as it was cycling) is full of the yeast mixture. I've done a 100% water change, didn't help for some reason. I will refill it again until it is clear and safe for my fish and plants, but does anybody have tips? Thanks!!

And its running max 10min per refill so around 4amps 400volts thats 1600watts divided by 6 thats 266watts so 0,266kw/h and I pay 0,06Euro per kw/h so 0.067euro maybe two times a month

    When I did goldfish I had two ryokan goldfish in a 55 gallon tank with a simulator setup. I absolutely loved my ryokan goldfish they were huge the size of their body without fins was a salad plate. They were my favorite! People would ask me all the time if they were real. Absolutely gorgeous 🥰 I'm miss them they lived for forever. But agree the over filtration is a must for crystal clear water

    Tetra filters have build in tabs that make the water clear. If you don’t want to any of this shown in the video, just get a tetra filter. Very underrated filter, I’d say it’s better than aquaclear. Due to the fact that aquaclear is just very loud and clear.

    Hey Luke! Question. I like Bettas, but my tap water is ridiculously hard (we do not have a water softener) Can you do a video on how you manage water quality outside of filtration?

    • @AnneDalton82
      @AnneDalton82 Před rokem

      You can use softening tablets, and live plants help a lot with water hardness(specifically, moss! Not marimo moss bc that's not actually moss but grass). As usual just properly cycle and filter the water and test before adding fish for proper quality assurance. This tank should take you a few months to really put together and having driftwood should help with the hardness too! When you do changes, do small 25% changes once a week to make sure you're not introducing too much of the hard water at a time. This will help you lots.

    • @AnneDalton82
      @AnneDalton82 Před rokem

      I would just mix the softener and the water conditioner into a two gallon bucket before adding to the tank pre-mixed each time :) it'll be more effort, but Bettas prefer 7.5-7.6 hardness for water and it really does make a difference. A lot of people will remark that they're hardy fish and really don't care but we're not going for survival, we want them thriving! You sound like you care a lot by checking your bases and I appreciate it 😭💜 a lot of people do more harm than good to poor Bettas most of the time. Keep asking questions and doing the right thing and thank you for doing your research first 💜💜💜 heck yeah

    How often do you do your big water changes?
    And ... does all the extra filtration really allow for longer time between water changes? If not , what's the point?
    I have 2 canister filters , one with sponge media and another one with just bio stones, oh and a big sponge filter. And I have about 10 ver small tetras and 4 very small (petco size goldfish)
    My parameters are in check, and I change 10% water every 2 weeks and it takes my Notrate to 0.
