    Reacting to this themes was a such a great journey, a shoutout to ‪@Royicahn‬ for requesting Library of Ruina over Patreon. I don't know what's this game even about but I listened and reacted to it's great soundtrack (at least a little bit of it). How did it go? Let's watch the video!
    Today's themes are:
    0:00 - intro
    1:19 - Gebura Theme
    9:08 - Binah Theme
    19:06 - Angela Theme
    This is merely for review, analysis, breakdown and constructive criticism purpose, I do not claim the audiovisual product I reacted to as my own.

    Small bit of info: The "clapping" sound effect is used in the videos because the themes do not cleanly transition into each other, each phase simply loops until you reach the conditions for the next. This is also why the songs end abruptly.
    Also, my favorite floor theme would be Kether Battle, mainly Kether Battle 3.

    Studio EIM are so amazing, there isn't a single bad track in the OST for Ruina, which is insane given the wide range of genres it covers (nightcore, low-fi, hard rock, orchestral, techno, and more), and even the tracks add character.
    Take a look at Gebura and Binah.
    Gebura's playstyle is all about unbridled aggression and overwhelming force, so fittingly, it sounds DOOM-like. The character Gebura herself is a grown-up street rat, so the choir in her theme is representative of the people in the Backstreets.
    Binah, by contrast, is very technical, relying on controlling the fight and obfuscating the enemy with precision and deliberation, so her's sound mysterious, ominous and elegant. Binah herself is an Arbiter, like Judge Dredd is, and her choir sounds distant and rarely shows up.
    Angela's Theme is only heard in-game when she suffers a mental breakdown and transforms into an abomination against nature. Fittingly, it sounds like a madhouse.
    Library of Ruina is a turn-based card-battle RPG.
    The clapping's too loud, I agree, but it's an in-game sound, used as the game's shorthand for 'shit's about to get real'.

    You better be prepared, Project Moon is many things, but it's OSTs are top notch. Hod's Floor, Chessed's Floor, Roland's Boss Music, The Reverberation Ensemble Boss Fight... theres a lot. Also I understand that it's a mod and technically not part of the base game, but the music for the Da'at Mod totally deserves getting some attention itself. It feel like it belongs in the game.

    Hooo boy, you're in for a treat with Library's ost is godly. Edit: Okay, so you need to know some stuff. LoR battles happen on floors. Each floor has a patron librarian. And these themes do not belong to bosses but to that librarian, and by extension to you as well. YOU are the boss for whoever dares to enter the library. Gebura theme, for example, plays when you fight on her floor. I kinda wish that you reacted to them in order. of the floors in game but that's a minor nitpick.

    • @Jhulian_R
      @Jhulian_R  Před rokem +51

    • @BlowBow2
      @BlowBow2 Před rokem +36

      @@Jhulian_R Obviously not blaming you or anything and yes, character themes is a more apporpriate term. Also, the "clapping" sound is actually finger snapping. In game there is a mechanic called emotion levels. When your team reaches certain emotion levels, the music changes its phase. And because you can reach the required level at any time, that snap is used for a better transition between phases as it's not possible (maybe it is but I'm not a music savvy person so I assume that it's definitely not easy at the very least) to make a smooth transition without it.

    • @devourer3701
      @devourer3701 Před rokem +10

      And another note:
      Angela theme and Roland theme is it, like a boss theme, you could say like a boss rush, you must fight 5 boss/phase?, (there are that have 6, or 4, or only 1) the character Roland and Angela Will take the form of previous boss of respective floor then another new one that you never fight (you can fight a boss in each floor as you progress, defeating the boss will unlock new ability for each and yes this abilities, either passive or active, it usually called abnormality page, in a battle, after you increase emotion level, you Will allowed to take one ability, this is that make each floor have their own gimmick) defeating this boss rush, you Will unlock the final abnormality page/abilities, and you also unlock the 5 E.G.O card, you could call this like ultimate attack, in a battle you could pick one after emotion level 3, then 4, and 5 Will allowed you pick another one again

    • @narkle9723
      @narkle9723 Před rokem +5

    Out of all the instrumental Ruina track i have to suggest you check out the Reverberation Ensamble. Its the proper final boss(es) theme and is separated in 4 parts.
    Whats interesting is each of the 10 bosses in the boss rush the song is for, represents metaphorical roles in an orchestral ensamble, and the theme gives each associated instruments incredible sections to shine. in the 4th segment every instrument comes together in one massive war song
    You can even look at the Library of Ruina wiki and check out the characters tied to the Reverberation Ensamble (theres a subsection of the wiki dedicated to them) and see what instrument each is tied to so you can notice their individual parts of the wider theme
    Ruina really is a game with spectacular music but its uplifted even higher by the context surrounding the themes

    These themes you're listening to arent for enemy bosses, but for the main characters of the story.
    Gebura, is a legendary mercenary renowned as an army-of-one kind of superhero, but she's moralistic and determined to protect those she loves, so her theme has tones of triumph and adventurous heroism, yet the intense guitar represents the brutality of her combat.
    Binah is a villain turned ally, once an overseer of the City, an elegant assassin used by the rulers of the City to stamp out threats. She was defeated, and in time, became an ally of those she tried to crush. She's elegant, but sinister and dubious, speaking in riddles qnd philosophizing over human nature. You mentioned it sounding like it was a fight for humanity, and you're not wrong, because she loves uncovering the delths of the human mind. She's also on the level of a humanity-ending threat for her foes. She's a scary lady.
    The last, Angela, is the main character. This theme plays when you suppress the manifestations of her past and trauma, and the themes are full of disparities between somber, mellow and sinister, with hopeful and triumphant swings in the melody.
    The game is a deckbuilder kind of deal, with different 'floors' headed by a main character (the ones whose themes youre listening to), and you play cards to dictate the actions the character and their 'assistant librarians' take in combat. The setting of the game is a Cyberpunk-esque technologically advanced corporate dystopia in a mega-city the size of a country.

      @xXTheKingEmothXx Před rokem +13

      Oh, of note with Angela's theme.
      The mixture of classical violins and pianos with electro styles represents the fact she's a robot AI who has human emotion. The strings represent her emotion and desire to become human, while the electro beat and backing represents her innate nature as an artificial intelligence.

    Angela's theme having a sort of conversation between the piano and violin is fitting for the game's story. The protagonist, Roland, has a piano present in his battle themes. In both the Keter and realization theme, the piano and violin can be heard together. The kether theme feels like the two of them working together while the realization theme feels like the two are battling each other.

  • @OpioidGamer
    @OpioidGamer Před rokem +1

    Hello man, just found your channel through this recommendation, I really like your thoughts and analysis of the themes, even if a bit off at times. 😊
    There's one more thing to be said about Angela's theme - The piano that is almost always in synchronization with the violin is often ascribed to the second "main character" of the game, Roland, whose leading instrument in his theme is a piano, whereas Angela's is the violin. The two have a very complicated relationship to each other.
    Of course, it could be said these instruments were simply used because they sound nice together, but the dynamics of the pianos and violins in the character's respective themes doesn't seem unintentional.
