They had steel vests and most of the time gas masks aswell.
They can run right through barbed wire without a problem.
And this will help to. Shock troops or assault troops are formations created to lead an attack. They are often better trained and equipped than other infantry, and expected to take heavy casualties even in successful operations

The German army during WWII has been a historical favorite of mine. Singlehandedly one of the deadliest armies of the time and one of the most terrible foes to face. Yet there were times when their humanity shone through the steel of the Nazi regime.

No, that is a Red 9 Mauser... a conversion of the C96 Mauser pistol. Particularly effective and accurate. The original round would be used by the Russians.

Pina, those sticks are the early version of the _Stielhandgranate_ (translation: stick hand grenade). Germany, out of all the powers in the First War, only had a demolition grenade (a 750 gram _monster_ called the Kugelhandgranate or 'Ball Hand Grenade'... yes, German naming conventions of their weapons tend to be very straightforward) for its combat engineers at first. Germany quickly went to work on covering this gap and produced the first Stielhandgranate...
... which became wildly successful.

Well 60 millions fought on both side and more than 9 millions died in war.
On the side of Entente Powers fought soldier from Russian Empire, British Empire/ Commonwealth of Great Britain (United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Egypt etc. )
Serbia, Montenegro, Belgium, France Republic, Greece, Portugal, Romania, Kingdom of Italy, Empire of Japan and United States.
On side of Central Powers were soldiers from German Empire, Kingdom of Bulgaria, Austria-Hungarian Empire and Ottoman Empire.

History time again. The term Blitzkreig actually originates from World War 1 and was a term coined by the British to describe the tactics employed by the German Stormtroopers. When the term was later again used to describe what we would now call maneuver warfare it was simply a result of British laziness to put effort into coining a proper term and thus it stuck as the name despite being inaccurate. For the scenario that was trench warfare, the Stormtroopers made quite the difference in battles but making elite shock units that ace in infiltration tactics is not something that can be developed easily for a nation losing a war much less one that was mostly relying on conscripts by the latter half of the war. Don't quote me on this but I am fairly sure that Erwin Rommel, the famous German tank commander from World War 2, was a Stormtrooper during World War 1.

I would love to see the Imperial army fight the sturmtruppen.
If that were to happen, I'd imagine it'd go something like this:
1. Most of the Imperial Army getting obliterated by artillery barrage (an artillery barrage always goes in first to cover the Stormtrooper's approach).
2. With the smoke clearing, the Stormtroopers charge right at the army (which may take a huge psychological effect on them).
3. They easily get shredded by the Stormtrooper's weapons (even if they use WW1 weaponry, their bullets are still modern enough to shear through the Imperial Army's armor).
4. Stormtroopers choosing to fight up close may give the Imperial Army a small chance of fighting them on equal ground. I say small because Stormtroopers are quite lethal and deadly in close quarters combat, and the trench club may even be able to pierce through the Imperial's armor.
5. Can't forget that Stormtroopers are also master grenadiers. All it would take is a well-placed sandbag full of grenades to decimate the army's ranks (this was an actual tactic used by the Stormtroopers).
Overall, if the Stormtroopers were to engage the Imperial Army over long distances first, they may be able to cut most of them down before they could even resort to close-quarters combat. If they do resort to that, than they may be able to win through a combination of their (slightly) more advanced weaponry (MP-18s and Trench Clubs with barbed wire) and their grenade skills.

"They can fight basically everywhere" duh, thats the point. As a wise man once said: "war doesn't determine who is right, it determines who is left. And there is a list of reasons why all the countries that exist today are still standing" if your enemy is going through a desert, you either go there and fight them, and have a chance to lose, or you just ignore it, and then you lose. Because any territory is useful. especially swamps and deserts. if that is your territory, you can safely make an ambush or plant mines in the sand, but if that is the enemy territory you instead have to watch out for all of those.

I believe the Canadians were also referred too as stormtroopers as well during ww1
That's right. After the Canadian Corps victory at Vimy Ridge, the Germans began referring to us as stormtroopers. Not entirely sure, but I think that's what Sabaton is referencing with "the pioneers would join the fray".
@@stevenbyford5615 I think Sabaton were referencing the 2 main divisions in the Stormtroopers. One were called "Jagers" while the other were known as the "Pioneers".
Jagers are light infantry units focused on clearing enemy trenches and dealing with enemy infantry. Pioneers are combat engineers that mainly construct, attack, and destroy fortifications.
