Served aboard one of these bad boys in Alaska as a seaman in the 90s before it was decommissioned, and all I got was a shortened life span from a TERA exposure due to sanding lead paint and asbestos dust.

Takes me back to the days of working buoys on the Planetree (307) when she was at Sand Island, Honolulu. Made one Southpac on her to Samoa and one resupply run to French Frigate Shoals Loran Station. 1967 - 1969.

Jeffrey Webster helluva great vessel. I was on her out of Juneau AK, 1980-82 but I missed the epic near sinking in 82 on the way to HI.

It's funny how time flies by. I was on the Buttonwood (306) as a SA/SN from 8/68 until 10/69 moored at Sand Is too. What amazed me was how alike the Acacia and Buttonwood were from the main deck upward. I really don't miss being on the Buttonwood but I have missed Hawaii at times.

87-89 Basswood wlb-388 stationed in Guam. Pre Subic bays closing and transferring everything to Guam. Guam was just a large port with not much there, so it was still beautiful there. I loved the Ship but hated most of the crew. I saw amazing places and beautiful things. The experience soured by bullies, alcoholics, rapist, pedophiles, a real stellar group of guys to be jammed in a small ship with. It was horrible and amazingly beautiful at the same time. Wouldn't trade any of it , even going through a horrible and damaging storm after leaving the Philippines . That no 180 foot buoy tender had any business being in. A see ships in storm video all the time they call bad. Nothing Ive seen can compare to those 3 days. Not fun.

If you've changed emails since you joined in 2010, since you do not have any activity on your present community page the easiest thing to do is apply for a new membership which I will approve. Thanks for this wonderful and memory evoking video. I served on USCGC Laurel in Ketchikan, Alaska as a quartermaster from 1977-1979, made second class and had passed my Officer qualifications exams in Seattle, WA.
I came very close to re-upping and decided at the last minute to terminate my enlistment. Upon completing my B.A., I was given the opportunity to go to Naval OCS in Newport, RI and ended up serving on board a guided missile destroyer as Asst. Navigation Officer from 1982 to 1985. I am a retired LT, USNR.
While in the Coast Guard I served under the command of LCDR J. T. Cushman and my Operations Officer was Ensign Ogg. Served under rhe command of John Scott Redd while on USS King ( DDG-41 ).
Would love to get in touch with any of my old shipmates. If you can help me in this regard, please let me know.
Currently serving as a volunteer Chaplain at Parrish Hospital in Titusville, FL. My email is billcrock52@gmail.com.

One time the pin (BIG PIN) that secured the boom to the ships structure snapped off. Getting both pieces out and replacing that sucker was a job that I will never forget. We worked on that Damn thing for almost 24 hours. I never bothered to ask where they found the replacement? I know we already had a few parts off the Blackthorn WLB 391 and that might have been the source?
