I can’t understand the criticism that’s directly at Mitski. I find that some of the “worst” musicians/vocalists (in a purely technical sense) are often the most emotionally engaging.
I’ve just discovered Mitski... sadly a little too late to see her perform live. I was lying in bed just after midnight and played this song. It was so compelling I stayed up much later than I should’ve listening to Mitski.
It’s an odd paradox that her music is so accessible while at times being uncomfortable. It never fails to stir some pretty strong emotions.
So what if she’s not a spectacular guitarist? If your music can evoke such a strong visceral and emotional response you must be doing something right.
I'm not sure what you are referring to, I think her vocals are great!

Ernestas Vascenka she’s said that herself. If you listen to lush you hear pianos her strongest instrument. I don’t really care just because she’s a great writer

I love everything about this song. Lyrically, it's genius. When I first heard it, it almost felt like an answer to Weezer's "Across the Sea" from Pinkerton... 20 years later.

I love this performance. It's really just her and the guitar and you can hear how she starts with a classic soft croon and lets both her playing and singing explode into pure emotion. She's fantastic
