Philippines-Qatar Bilateral Meeting 4/22/2024

“With the Philippines and Qatar sharing 43 years of deep friendship and cooperation, I am certain that our discussion today will translate stronger collaboration in common fields of interest,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said as he and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, held a bilateral meeting at the State Dining Room in Malacañan Palace on 22 April 2024.
The President expressed his anticipation towards a fruitful and productive meeting with His Highness the Amir, highlighting that the discussion would pave the way for numerous chances to enhance and strengthen bilateral ties between their nations at every level - commercial level, government-to-government level and people-to-people level.
“This is our aspiration and I think that if we are agreed that this is the way to go, there is much potential that we can take advantage of,” the President added.
In response, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani expressed his appreciation to President Marcos Jr. for graciously welcoming him during his inaugural visit to the country.
He said that the Philippines is an important partner of Qatar in various fields especially trade and economic cooperation.
Likewise, the Amir commended the Filipino community residing in Qatar for their effective contribution towards the development of their country, citing their remarkable effort during the COVID-19 pandemic and at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Philippines and Qatar established diplomatic relations on May 5, 1981.
