Argyll, Fair Isle, and Norwegian styles are definitely in need of a video
Right? I was thinking back to my sweater days. Icelandic, Aran knit, to go with your Argylle & Dean’s Fair Isle sweaters. V neck tennis sweater w/Navy & maroon stripes on collar. IZOD golf sweaters.
Yes, but those are just style variations upon the crew or v-neck construction.
Argyle is preferred spelling when neigh refers t' the Duke, Sir Campbell or whate'er...
I personally would love an advanced sweater guide. I shop second hand quite a bit and I always love finding a good sweater so naturally I’ve accumulated a good collection.
Wearing a Cardigan today. Would love to see a video on Advanced Sweater Options. Another Preston Home Run. Thanks
Im in my teens but I’ve been watching this channel for ages and love menswear and especially knitwear, blazers, wool ties etc keep up the good work and love your content 😊
Same here! I prefer blazers and silk ties to knit, but I’m glad to hear that there are other teenagers interested in classic style like me
Definitely one of my most favorite articles of clothing
YES! I would love a video of advance types of sweater, with the story of those more popular.
I recently just discovered the joys of wearing sweaters. I love it so much, especially cricket and tennis sweaters. I just bought some vintage Pendleton cardigan sweaters.
Well said. I also discovered modern takes on the traditional cardigan and also hoodies that make the garment more casual, like a cable knit cardigan with a hood or a hoodie in cashmere or merino and sometimes a faux fur trimmed hood. Zippers and different style buttons also can make a garment singular and appealing.
Hello GG. I was so pleased that you chose to make a video that focused on sweaters. My collection consists of many of these styles and more and this is my go to item from fall to early spring. I appreciate the sweater as a substitute for a blazer or tweed jacket. Less formal but still looks sharp and put together. Great job on this one.
For year round wear in a cold office I like a merino wool v-neck sweater vest. As a matter of fact I just ordered a vintage Brooks Brothers navy fairisle.
Yes for video on advanced sweater styles
Hey Preston. Guess what?, I use your videos for my English lessons with my students. Your accent and speak pace si just perfect for that. Also they learn a thing o two in style
I've been waiting for a video on tennis sweaters.
This is why I like cooler weather. I can wear sweaters (and sport coats) and not melt.
Can't wait for the "advanced sweater" video 😁
My personal staple are cable knit v neck vests/waist coasts. They work perfectly on everyday environments and you can layer them no problem.
I'd love a video on advanced sweater styles.
Hey man, you look very good with that beard style
I loved Sinatra's Orange Mohair sweater. It looked great on him. Cardigans are favorites with and without collars. Turtle necks look fantastic with Blazers and Sport Coats. Vee Necks look good with or without a coat. Crew Necks look best with the collar of a shirt turned out over them unbuttoned at the neck or simply by themselves. Good video.
Thank you gentleman, great information, very well done with a touch of humor.
It's warm in the cooler months. Sometimes you just need it!
Big fan of this video!
I have all these sweater styles in my wardrobe, but this video still inspired me to try some new outfits with them.
On the casual sweater point - the one I have is a v-neck in a super chunky wool/alpaca blend. Can't praise alpaca enough for its insulating properties - it's the warmest sweater I have by far. Really recommend it in cold weather.
In contrast, I find cashmere sweaters overrated in terms of warmth. They are beautifully soft, and I sometimes wear them by themselves just because they feel so good, but I don't find them as insulating as a similarly thick wool sweater, and nowhere near alpaca. Just something to keep in mind.
Excellent, instructive video, gentlemen. Thank you.
Love these gorgeous cardigans👍👍
I got a fairly unusual double breasted shawl collar cardigan in a fairly heavy cotton knit. It works remarkably well as a more casual alternative to a jacket. I've worn it quite a lot since I got it about two months ago and it does look sharp with a shirt and tie. It might be a tad better if it were charcoal or navy, but it was too nice not to get regardless. I got many compliments from it -- surprisingly many, actually.
Please include the "... Outfits" part in future videos. I really like the inspiration
it's like a song not my ops to me ; this goes back to me day of tutoring the frustration
Tennis sweaters i like
Sending this to my brothers
Also Raphael’s child is absolutely wonderful to see!
It is nice to know that sweaters are still in fashion. Cashmir and Merino for me, but I am now in the tropics!
The tennis/cricket sweater go hard tho
I love turtlenecks and shawl collar cardigans. I highly recommend North Sea Clothing for their plush collars. For turtlenecks, I love them in a darker, warmer colour like plum, dark green, and cream/ecru and cable knit. I'll save the formal colours for thinner knits. V necks are alright but at that point, I'll go for a thinner cardigan for the simple fact that it won't mess up my hair and the visual interest of the buttons.

Logan Roy comes to my mind when I see Preston's sweater.
I really liked the Green Double-breasted cardigan he wore in season 2. I'm really considering buying it
I love my V-necks!
It is easy to get chunky sweaters here, same with thinner crew necks. It is very hard to get turtle necks, I don't think they are very popular but they look so good with a sportcoat instead of a shirt.
I see myself in what is described on your site "A polished business casual ensemble." walking down the street in Detroit going to a coffee shop.
For your advanced sweater video have you thought about including aran jumpers?
I have one of those, but it has to be cold to wear it
Currently wearing a shawl collared Ralph Lauren cardigan in purple, while I make pizza for lunch.
I often enjoy wearing role neck jumpers underneath a waistcoat and sports jacket with trousers.
Is this a style that the Gentlemans Gazzete suggests wearing?
advance sweater video please!
Great video as usual! I didn’t even know about some of these sweater styles. I’m a big fan of the shawl cardigan. Sadly I don’t think I could ever wear turtlenecks since I have a short neck and a round face, it’s pretty unflattering.
Most of the shirts I wear are actually band collared shirts since I find even just a regular collared shirt still makes my face look like it’s just popping out of my collar. It’s kind of a niche problem but I think I’d appreciate some styling tips on that as well someday.
then you should have none of the troubles with the crewneck instead of the v? traditionally, the banded collar with the cardigan is a quintessential Irish look, anyway?
hi GG i have a suggestion for a video- why did men stop wearing pin badges on their lapels, and how to wear them? thanks, keep it up!
tortoise and woodgrain
Does the turtleneck need to be machine washable? I assume you’d need to wash after every wear since it’s next to the skin.
I'd love to see an advanced video
More advanced sweater styles, please.
Another style icon for the Turtleneck and Sport Coat combination would be Carl Sagan! A bonus to having a Turtleneck in light blue, tan, or olive-gold, is the ability to tell the world I'm a Trekkie by sewing on a debatably discrete delta badge from the original _Star Trek_ television series (specifically the first two episodes that were filmed) 😉Leave it untucked over midnight blue or black trousers with black dress boots, and (as Emeril might say) *bam* -- Hallowe'en is set!
The world would be a better place if more of us were like Fred Rogers. Get a Mr. Rogers sweater as an homage.
Also The NATO Sweater as its called also, either olive, black, blue or grey .
so you SLIM JIM lad from hanukah nice meeting you
What are dress sneakers?
I own a Brooks Brothers tennis sweater but I'm serious I lack the confidence to wear it. To me it's such a bold statement. I almost feel like I'm wearing a costume. I feel like everybody is looking at me lol
Ashley Weston says to never wear a t-shirt under a V-neck sweater and to always wear a button-down shirt. She considers the t-shirt + V-neck look a huge sweater faux-pas. What are your thoughts?
I'd agree that it's not great. It elongates your neckline strangely. Not a faux pas per se but it does look kinda wrong.
Getting me a turtleneck soon.
Preston with Beard ✅
I believe you are wrong about some of the claims being made about synthetics. I fully agree that they do not look as visually pleasing as for example pure natural fabrics and that it can sometimes be hard to properly care for a blend due to differences in fabric requirements (especially the dreaded 55% wool 45% polyester blends in coats and suits that even high end brands are pushing), but the strategic addition of certain polyesters (especially nylon) will certainly increase durability. As an avid hiker I have had the pleasure of testing out different base layers, mid layers, wind layers, outer layers and whatnot and I can testify to 90/10 mixes (10% being nylon, for example) or 80/20 mixes being much more durable as well as easier to dry. Perhaps the utilitarian part of the nylon is not as useful for a business meeting, but stating that they break down faster is - in my experience - simply incorrect.

You forget the essential CHRISTMAS sweater! Don't sweat it though, ho ho ho ;)
We didn't forget it, we made a whole video about it! 😉 www.gentlemansgazette.com/ugly-christmas-sweaters/?
To me, the Irish cable is still the more essential, but won't get as much use out the turtileneck versions...
I use the vest more often than the sleeves for v-necks, too. Not always Argyle, but.............
Obviously subbing out the cardy for a jackie will send the WRONG message to most workplaces and employers and possibly customers, and also the collar might be itchy.
Also, the Field Jacket will ALWAYS be TOO casual unless you're going duck hunting or something.
But without a jacket, the back of the waistcoat showing will be that gauche sateen most of the time.
Or just skip the denim shirt and possibly the chukka boots since they are more in the workwear category?
Preston, i liked your beard. And i see a strand of white hair here, right? 😂
Correct! I have no issues whatsoever with my hair going gray, so long as I can keep it. :)
- Preston
@@gentlemansgazette I will do the same ;)
Advance it up! Please.
How about the mock/half mock. You did mention half zip that had a mock collar. Wearing one with an oxford is a favorite of mine instead of a v-neck👍
Shawl collars are for home wear! They look strange under anything jacket like.
“Wherever you land on the spectrum” is right.

Man, what's wrong with the button front sweater vest? Thought they were pretty formal and neat.
Four of the last five video titles have capitalised words. POSSIBLY ungentlemanly 😁
I thought it was just me , who used to match the colour of the perfume bottle with the colour of my outfit
Sweater only.

I have a little bit of a belly and found that cardigans and sweater vests always accentuate that in an unsightful way. In my opinion they are best suited for leaner men. I prefer merino wool v-neck sweaters (pullovers) or pullunders (sleevless) for layering under a Jacket. I personally dont understand why crewneck sweaters are a thing because they never ever look good with a shirt collar and even less with a tie.
I bought a Merinowoll sweater, because evrybody talks so positively about it. But only 1 year later it already had holes. Never ever will buy one again. Cotton is way more durable
A resounding Yes to another video on 'advanced' sweaters. But PLEASE stop referring to the "weave" of the knitwear; knitted garments have a "gauge" that denotes the fineness/coarseness of the textile. Other than that, I could happily listen to Preston reading out the phonebook, so no complaints...
Sweaters, ideal for when you need to yell at those young whippersnappers to stay off your lawn.
First coment
Possibly hot take (warm perhaps): jumpers are bad. They make you look old (no gen Zer is out hunting for a jumper for their next date), and most of them look awful (seriously, do you see anyone under 50 in a turtleneck?) Pass 😁
Preston takin roids?
random : noski flownem toebox go to the kitchen
With all due respect, it seems you all really like cardigans but I feel the opposite. I've never thought they look good on anyone, and make everyone look older like a grandpa and they are usually baggy and make you look bigger. I wear the full zip up ribbed merino wool sweater and I think that is more athletic and slimming looking. Also, I love how turtlenecks look and I like the vintage look but I can't wear them as the neck part makes my neck itchy and it gets really annoying. Even wearing merino wool, it irritates my neck wearing them unfortunately. I'd also like to see the advanced sweater video please!!
I’m so sorry to say this but I’m not a huge fan of the beard Preston
I do not need those four sweaters in my wardrobe. I need whichever sweater I like.
Something is wrong with you, buddy. You keep on commenting negatively on this channel for no apparent reason, the sweaters mentioned in the video are very classic and elegant, there's nothing wrong with them. If you don't like them, just ignore the video. Never comment again. You're not so gentle, wolf.
Okay, sensitive guy
Very edgy.
Are you ok pal?
Wow, you're a true rebel
man, you opened with the worst kind of sweater. Flat v-necks are boring and bad. If you must wear a v-neck, get a cricket sweater or at least a shetland (although a shetland crew neck is better). And get tailoring that fits over it.
Flat V necks or V necks vests are the perfect layer to go under a sports coat. Not boring at all.
Grandpa style? Nope.
