    Hi Davie, Another great Diawl Bach variant…. as you say it’s such a popular and simple pattern, you can create a number of colour versions. Regards, Wayne

    Looks like a real nice fly for bluegill and crappie. I want to try some under the ice.

    Thanks for adding some of the "tricks" for material placement and tying that you've added to your videos. They are now beyond fantastic. Perhaps you might tie a fly and show how you are able to get a wing to be perfectly aligned the first time.

    Hi, I like the look of this fly, I will tie half a dozen, using a red tungsten bead and Lite-Brite and see how they work on local steelheads.

    another great instructive video, thank you, do you think this would be quite effective for grayling with purple or pink micro fritz ? and fished on the middle dropper

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 5 lety +1

      Definitely Richard, and adding a little weight or a tungsten bead would work fine anywhere in the cast..I'm glad you liked the fly..
      All the very best Davie...

    Another little beauty! Question for you Davey: Can you estimate how many patterns you have actually tied in your career? Just curious…...... 🤔

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi El Duderoony,
      I've been tying for well over 30 years and I have to be honest I would only be guessing but I'm sure it would be a few thousand.. Over a 6 month period I tyed for a friend that was fishing for their country and as well their local waters and there was over 200 patterns, it filled a small folder I had bought to hold them..I'm glad you liked the fly...
      All the very best Davie...

    • @elduderoony8171
      @elduderoony8171 Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks for that Davie, although I’m actually surprised. I thought you would guess quite a bit more! lol
      You do seem to cater to my taste with your picks, especially the older style patterns. My personal favourites. Thanks as always for your videos and I’m sure you are going to be tempting me with many more ‘to-dos’ yet!
      Keep doing what you do my friend.
      ps..... El Duderoony is my screen name but I always smile when I’m kind of addressed so. It’s a long story! Another day maybe...... I’m actually Gary.

    Hi Davie,
    Please, could you give me the reasons for using hot spots, holographic, mylar tinsel or other flash materials on tying fly model?
    Does increase the number of strikes?
    On the other hand, does this work on all species of trout or is it only
    suitable for rainbow trout?
    Could you provide me some published article about this subject?
    Thank you

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 4 lety

      Hi Jacques Soule,
      It can be an advantage to have a bit of flash on our flies nowadays especially for fishing for rainbow trout on many of our lakes and lochs..I personally like it in dubbing but only a little as too much can have an opposite effect as I find this even on my salmon flies. You could experiment with your flies just to see if it helps or not but watch the weather and light conditions as this does affect the way the flash may or not help..I hope this is of some help to you...
      All the very best Davie..
