"Magic is good, science and technology is bad." I suppose in the early books that's true, but it's a lot more gray, now. The Technocratic Union leadership itself is pretty bad and its effect on the world is hampering human creativity, but the individual members are generally real believers in making the wonders of magic (sorry, "enlightened science") available to the masses through systematizing it. Indeed, it's the Order of Reason (the predecessors of the modern Technocracy) that have made the biggest positive impact on the lives of the average person, as their advances have brought health and prosperity that would be unheard of in the age when the Traditions reigned supreme. Technology also isn't separate from magic, by the way. EVERYTHING in the World of Darkness is controlled by human belief and what they think the world is. Technology is just ritual magic that has become so accepted that it's become a part of the Concensus and doesn't need a Mage to make it work anymore.
As a storyteller new to the system, this is the kinda stuff I was actually hoping to find when I plugged mage the ascension into the CZcams search bar
It's also important to remember that if you use technology in a way the technocracy doesn't like they'll kick you to the curb and hunt you as reality deviants (see the Society of Ether and Virtual Adepts)
@@itme626 To be fair, the Virtual Adepts aren't actually reality deviants, generally. Their paradigm is still pretty Technocrat. Their beef with the Union is mostly political: they believe in freedom of information and using technology to liberate humanity, while the Technocracy is obsessed with heavily steering the narrative and enhancing their own control. Most Union personnel would still recognize them as doing Enlightened Science in a way they wouldn't many Etherites.
I wish you'd gone through he reasons for it. "Firearms, so we can cast gun." Funny as that is, it'd be useful to know what stats would be relevant to certain stuff. Like, for example, 'Data' uses Enigmas for certain abilities. It'd be useful to know this sort of stuff, since jumping into mage is a nightmare and it's hard to tell which skills are necessary.

In regards to your roll being a success/failure, I'd say it works. You wouldn't be able to see the person who sent it or go to them, but you'd be able to see the source of the email you received. Since the computer you're using is familiar and 'cyberspace' is not a physical distance. It'd be like searching for the return address on an envelope. You don't need to _go_ to that address to see it written on the envelope in your hands.
They couldn't really have copied the magic system from Mummy because that was released in 2001. The 1e Mage version you use is from 93. This 1e edition magic system you've referenced is the simplest Mage the Ascension's magic will ever be. Look at M20 if you want to see how needlessly complicated this thing can become.
An other nitpick. Don't make the "Science is bad" mistake. The perversion of science by the Technocracy to turn it into a system of Sleeper control is bad. Both the Sons of Ether and the Virtual Adepts use science and technology to work their Magick.
But, like I said, nitpicks. Kinda cool you chose to use the 1e Edition!

Never been a fan of early World of Darkness's anti science bent. Changeling the Dreaming was also bad for it.
It's quite different now. The Technocracy is arguably the good guys (they invented microwaves).
