I am from Hyd. My grand mother used to tell how terrifying Razakar movement was. Woman used to keep red chilli powder and hot boiling ready always and be ready at home. and Men used to wake up whole nights and safe guard the compound. Most Hindus used to live in groups that time it seems for safety
Many did that until 1984 , b4 when every year multiple riots happened over weekends starting off of old city hyd and spreading until secunderabad. Men + boys in Impacted areas guarded homes and neighborhood while women/girls were ready for self defense /attacks with mirchi powder water and kitchen knives. Thank God we don't have that any more. Hyd became safe since then and developed into an IT hub. TDP was instrumental by defeating congress(I)+mim coalition
same here my grand parents donated a part of thier land towards mosque, so as a result whenever razkar where raiding villages, the entire neighborhood used to take shelter as the mosque management prevented them from enterign the premises.

On enquiring found there is lot of history in my own family that I was not aware of and what my parents went through. They are no longer alive but found out through my older sister, who herself experienced it. My family has first hand experience of the oppression of Razakars. Post independence the atrocities of the Razakars continued without any sign of diminishing, my grandfather and grandmother migrated to Bengluru with all my uncles and aunts, except my father who was the eldest. He stayed behind to take care of the business and other assets. A few male relatives and friends turned our home into a fortress, the ground floor was barricaded, male servants and staff were stationed on the ground floor armed with lathis, knives and axes, relatives and friends were on the first floor with boiling oil and chili powder, a community kitchen took care of food. This happened in Secunderabad an army cantonment (by then the Brits had packed their bags & left), just imagine what happened in smaller towns and villages. This situation was faced by many families all across the former Hyderabad State.

Now the Modi Govt has built am martyr memorial named after Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel.Kasim Rizvi on the way to Latur, his native, caused inumerable atrocities. There are many instances. But people faught tooth and nail under the leadership of Swami Ramanand Tirth of Arya samaj.
