    I tore my meniscus at age 48 in the Lotus pose. These people assume a high level of flexibility. People in my class could fold their legs into Lotus while in Headstands! I had never been able to do the Lotus, but was in a intensive training course and could finally do the pose. I absolutely LOVED it. I was doing it regularly for the better part of a year. But it was always a struggle to get into the pose, I had to use my arms to bring me feet into position. So one night, I had my left leg in half Lotus and was using my arms to bring the right leg over into full Lotus when...KRrrrrrrkkkk! Something popped in my left (bent) knee. It didn't really hurt, but when I straightened the leg I could feel bone rubbing on bone. Long story short, I had surgery 2 weeks later for 2 'bucket handle' meniscus tears. It's been 9.5 years and I don't have much trouble with it, but I definitely don't want to risk further injury by trying it again. So I practice Aparigraha and just let it go. So the bottom line is, this pose is not considered a higher-level pose for nothing. I would advise you to use extreme caution. And don't start doing it at 48 either:).

    The teacher explains at the beginning the most critical areas where flexibility is needed for this pose. Ankle, knee, and hip flexibility. The three 'warm up' exercises are VERY important to practice consistently. I am a westerner and 71 years old. This video is extremely helpful and I anticipate many months of practice. Don't rush it!

    i am 75, have been sitting in meditation half lotus regularly for 40 years. decided as a present to myself (I expect it will be) why not sit in full lotus? so, I looked up videos and found this. It makes sense to me and was well explained. thank you. I will take this approach but in the spirit of the Japanese haiku poet, Issa, who wrote:
    Oh, snail.
    Climb Mt. Fuji.
    But, slowly. Slowly.

    I commented on this video before one year. Though I wanted to do, somewhat I had been postponing.
    Now for the past 10 days I am doing these preparatory asanas and padmasana regularly. On the second day itself I was able to to bring my second leg over the first.
    Then from fifth day, I am able to stay in padmasana for full five minutes.
    Today I stayed in Padmasana for 15 minutes and did Pranayam in it. Still I cannot do padmasana without doing preparatory asanas. I think in a month I would be able to do so.
    Thank you so much for this video. I'm seriously considering to resume yoga again. Your videos are a good inspiration.
    God bless you.

    Beautifully explained & demonstrated. I was waiting for a long time from some one to explain this good. Please also explain & demonstrate how to sit in Vajrasana for longer time. My knees get pain in shorter time & tail bone also hurts. Is this preparation safe for older adults above 70?

    I have a doubt... Pls clarify.. Is it a good practice to have food in artha padmasanam..

    • @YogaForCureVideos
      @YogaForCureVideos  Před 4 lety

      Thank you so much for the comment here... food is something which you need to eat In most comfort posture as your body is going to absorb it completely. So it’s said that most best posture to have food is sukhasana. When you have the best posture to have food then I don’t think we need any other asana.
      If you still like sitting in ardhapadmasan, I think it should fine. 😊🙏👍🏻

      You should always do ankle warmup before you start this practice and also you should take it slow one-minute is a good timing don’t force yourself you will get better only with the time😊🙏
