I think that the Y's IV's were bad. The X's cp was very good, though. Too bad the cool-looking mons don't always mean powerful. Y literally has like 700 cp above X at double level 51 hundos. The meta also suggests that wing attack with Blast Burn and Dragon Claw would be better for X and Y. Y just has better IV's over X. The game needs to show my boy X some more love
I personally prefer x it’s easier to cover on your team and if you run it more almost defensively with it’s versatility I think he’s a great tank

Y is also better in general, i have a 2494 cp charizard and when i evolve to mega charizard x it is around 3300 cp end when i evolve the same charizard to mega charizard y it goes to around 3800. Plus Y has higher base stats

It wasnt the reason is most likely the IVS (individual values) or the typing since Charizard x is weak against dragon claw since he's a fire and dragon type but Charizard y isn't because he is a fire flying type
