Deathshuck I dunno, I feel like King of Limbs is weak, it's another step back for their sound. In Rainbows felt that way for me too, but then again, that album is mostly just random thrown-away tracks from their entire career. But The Bends-Hail to the Thief is amazing. Nothing really compares to those albums. I felt like KOL relied too heavily on monotonous drum patterns, uninteresting riffs, and uninspired vocals. But I guess they are evolving nonetheless. I guess I just feel they're past their prime. Just like Pink Floyd after Dark Side-The Wall/The Final Cut.
beatles7798 Funny you should say that because The Final Cut is probably the most uninspired album Pink Floyd ever put out, the band was completely fed up with working eachother at that point. The Division Bell is miles better than The Final Cut, for the simple fact that the band enjoyed playing with each other again, without Roger being present and interfering with everything. That's why I like KOL too, even though I prefer In Rainbows sound-wise, at least KOL is inspired and they tried to do something new, which is what a band should always do, not rely on nostalgia and making same stuff album after album.
Deathshuck Well, you use the word uninspired when describing The Final Cut. I do not disagree, for I would be a fool to do so, that The Final Cut was a completely Waters-run solo album, with the band as backing artists. But the sound on that album IS completely original. Up until that point, no artist had ever dared to release an album so personal, and so musically diverse. From the song structures, to the complexity of the vocal lines. Division Bell reeks of 80s and 90s pop, whereas The Final Cut has a much more timeless feel to it. I guess my argument is a little biased, but using the word uninspired to explain TFC, while defending Division Bell is completely ridiculous. Uninspired is a poor choice of words.
beatles7798 For me The Final Cut is just a tremendously boring album musically. I couldn't care less about the concept and how personal it is, if the music isn't engaging. Lyrics are secondary. I come from a younger generation and I can tell you right now that the songs from The Division Bell are more beloved by modern Pink Floyd fans than anything from The Final Cut, which kind of turns your "timeless" argument on it's head. The Division Bell takes you in as soon as it starts, when you hear that haunting piano accompanied with Gilmour's echoing guitar, for me that's what defines Pink Floyd. Granted, some of the songs sound like new-age noodling, but when discussing the album today on it's own musical merits, such argument really has no relevance whatsoever. The melodies are beautiful, there's great energy and for me it was closer to the essence of Pink Floyd. Marooned is hands down Gilmour's best instrumental and High Hopes is just legendary. I can't tell you how many conversations I've had with people about that song alone. At the end of the day, Pink Floyd functioned best as a unit when everyone was collaborating, but if I had to choose between Waters' lyrics and Gilmour's guitar, I'd take the latter any day of the week.
It's strange - as an album TKOL sits somewhere in the middle of Radiohead's repertoire for me. But after hearing it live it makes it sound so much better!

I have a new appreciation for this song having now seen them build all the layers right before my eyes.
Friggin' amazing.
MY FAVOURITE OUT TEMPO TRACK BY RADIOHEADITS LIKE THEY RE CONNECTING SO DIFFERENTL..
No other band ever can evolve like radiohead...ever
I love this version of the song over the original Album version or the studio version. Love it!
It,s difficult to find something that is better then this...Awesome.....Everything fits together,,,, Thoms passion .
Everything will become this level. Maybe. Hopefully. Potentially.
So glad I found this. I've watched a lot of Radiohead videos, and this is, by far, my favorite. At about 4:50, they could have just kept going for awhile and it would have been like a free-flowing jazz number. Sublime.
So, this made me weep.
Yep, this is the best version of Bloom. Possibly Radiohead's best ever live performance.
TKOL is an album where all tracks on it sound way better live than on studio. Take this video for example. Play this video, take a deep breath and then listen to the studio version. Quit the difference, eh?,
What an unbelievable masterpiece !
This is a stunning version. Wow. Wowee!
Bloom is like someone took the percussion sensibilities of mid 80's Tom Waits, the atmosphere of Phillip Glass, and the singing of Radiohead. It is such a strangely gorgeous track.
that was fucking intense
King of Limbs is like "Human After All" by Daft Punk. Both albums just sound AMAZING live and WAY better then the studio versions. Holy shit.
Best version of Bloom ever!!!
Radiohead is the best band to ever walk the planet.
Why is this legitimately like the best version of this song
Radiohead doesn't fuck around.
I would do anything to see this song performed live.
Magic starts with the bass...
That melody Thom improvises at 4:30 is just awesome.
I think about/sing that moment in my head all the time. So good.
Everything they do is AWESOME!!!!
Okay why is this so much better than the studio version
Honestly, this may be the best performance I've ever seen
Holy shit. I'm glad this song evolved so magnificently from the studio version. Radiohead only goes towards one direcction, and it's always up.
This is crazy
Gave me shivers
Still the best
happy birthday Thom. u continue to astound 👍
Awesome singing around 4:30. I could go on about the guitar playing, but won't bore you. I only listen to King of Limbs from the Basement. This is an amazing version of this song. I didn't know Radiohead had done this show. Wow-wow-wow.
Must be incredibly difficult to play live!
and to play dead? WOW! FUCKIN SHIT
Colbert reaction is perfect
i am artist by myself but it makes me cry how talented this band is. If you don’t know anything about music theory just to feel the vibe. It’s hard to explain but i guess in rainbows and this song chanced my life forever. One day i hope we will share the same stage it would be my biggest honor
Yesss, me too
