Today's video is all about how to stop a child from hitting and throwing with Rachel S. Rachel is a married mom of a 2.5-year-old boy and a second baby boy due soon. She has an elementary special education degree as well as a Reading Specialist masters' degree. She has recently become the Program Director for the Turn Autism Around programs. She used the program herself when her oldest son, Everett, was not using vocal language on time.
When I discuss problem behaviors, I really talk the most about prevention. But what happens when you’re in the thick of a problem behavior moment? This can be challenging for professionals and even the most informed parents, because safety and de-escalation become a priority. Many times, the attention we divert to throwing, hitting, or other problem behaviors becomes a big reinforcement.

Dr. Mary Barbera. I fell into the autism world as an autism mom in 1999 when her first-born son, Lucas, was diagnosed with autism. Since then, she became a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and best-selling author of The Verbal Behavior Approach. Since 2015, she’s created 3 autism online courses based on applied behavior analysis for professionals and "gung-ho" parents. Whether you’re looking for autism parenting strategies, working with developmental delays in children, or in search of autism help for professionals, I can encourage you to subscribe to the channel and join me on my journey. I’ll be providing weekly autism resources that you don’t want to miss.

Thank you for this info!! Hoping that this written comment comes of right… love the “common sense” advice. How easy is it to get caught up in the moment and not know what to do? This advice is so basic, yet SO helpful!!

That’s messed up… you didn’t say what to do. Have a disclaimer at the beginning that this is just an ad for your program.

I offer some short insights but unfortunately, every behavior and child is so different you cannot fit it what to do for every single scenario in a short video but you do need to work on preventing the behavior to start. I do have a short step by step course on just problem behaviors that is about 90 minutes long here www.turntantrumsaround.com
