It was all live, even the piano and strings. Crazy execution. Just his acting that all out in basically one shot is amazing.
I heard it took Ren 30 days to produce.
That's not a one-take, unless he rehearsed for 29.
There were transitions, at-least two, one when revealing the face and one behind the chair, but was still performed live.

He confirmed the version we see was done in one take from start to finish. Of course he had to practice!
@@theresilientspud Maybe one take, but there WERE cuts, like after removing the bag so they could sort out his hair and suit before messing with it.
one take is continuous with no cuts, a one shot has hidden cuts but long periods of "one take" material before a hidden cut. Hope that helps, I do believe he said it was a one shot, so with a few hidden cuts. @@racc_racc_
I thought the reflection of his head in the lid of the grand piano was clever. I thought ducking under the handshake of the two businessmen was really clever. I thought the passage between "Makes a move against the cartel", including smoke grenades, to "the doctor sighs and says I don't think you'll be walking again", & the timing of the arrival of the wheelchair and the sound of the bottle rolling on the floor - this whole part was fucking genius ! By far my favourite part.
Nobody ever talks about how when he was 17 he sold the software program, Ren gave him some money out of his larger stack, and patted the kid on the back.

Congratulations to Ren for UK number one in the album charts. It’s incredible that he’s gone from underground to world-class with zero promotion from a record label or touring.
You got the message just right, its not really the money that's the problem, its what you are willing to sacrifice for it , relationships, integrity ,conscience, humanity , kindness, empathy ,love , and is it really worth it to have power over the world if you loose the world doing it . Ren is asking some timely questions that humanity needs to have answers for if we wish to survive .

@@Chris-dp2jj You don't need to be his "homie" to know where Ren was going with this. If the song didn't make it clear enough, after the release he went streamed on Twitch to talk about it with his fans. Ren is always open to communication with people, you just have to listen. If that doesn't help then string all 3 songs in order and include the live stream of the end of the Money Game Scavenger Hunt. I can't see how much clearer he could've made it, homie or not. He wants us to be asking these big questions, this is a topic that's very important to him.

Right. He already had the rhyme structure and gestures and a short period of time so he used them on the Dotta dis for practice.

The way I interpret it, his solution is not the gun. His solution is telling the STORY of the gun, a story to the wise. Ren's said many times he doesn't have the answers to making the world better -- but he can sure tell stories that get all of us talking about it!

@@ianjackson2124Just the wheelchair one, there's some other takes of the bag-off-the-head in the behind the scenes that show him figuring out how to make it look the best/be most effective for the camera.
The last scene WITH rain was a just one chance only, of course they did takes before but they were just practice without rain
I vaguely remember people saying it's either 3 or 4 takes in total, don't remember which one. Still a masterpiece.

I'm jumping up and down so happy to hear you catch the fact that this money Game is physically describing the first 2. Wow! I didn't register that the computer was vintage but Ren is so detailed he probably did it because Jimmy dies at 45 in 2023 so that computer was new when Jimmy was 14-16. Always so impressed with Ren and this was an excellent reaction 😊

I like how the first storytelling scene is the narrator looking into a mirror, which ties back to the demand of MG 1&2 to do exactly that "But we like to point the blame, blame, blame, blame / It's easier to blame / But point the mirror at ourselves / We're all part of this old money game"
And, yes, you're remembering correctly: "Rain, rain, rain, rain / A storm, it comes our way," and in this video, Jimmy's perspective evolves when he comes in from the rain.
My favorite part is the choreography and camera work/angles. It's so detailed and perfectly timed. And the colors and quality of the video is so lush. It's all gorgeous even without the music. Crazy talent.

He does it in Hi Ren as well, not just the King Dotta reaction. I saw a lot of the themes in Hi Ren resurface in this video which I thought was interesting as this was I think, his fait accompli from the beginning. Everything's connected, like it or not. The whole album somehow circles back on itself with such cunning intelligence. Thank you, Ren, and thank you FTB and all the reactors for this much needed and possibly healing journey he's taken us on together. This is I believe, the start of a Renaissance.

I interpret it like this : his Dad kept pushing him to make more money and more money and power and more power ! No matter how rich or powerful he got his Dad was never proud of him...told him it's not good enough! When his Dad died he was pissed because he never gained his Dad's approval so he spiraled down still trying to make his Dad proud until he lost the use of his legs. That's when he finally realized his Dad was wrong about doing whatever it takes for fortune and fame! Wanting to be your best and succeed is fine but not at the expense of hurting or killing people and selling your soul, having none of the precious things in life (friends, love, family, etc)

Yes, that's Ren playing piano at the beginning! He also composed the music for piano and strings! Except for the opening couple of bars. He directed the video and produced the music/audio. It was recorded live but it's not quite one take. They had to make a single edit, before the water, as the 'rain machine' was being temperamental. Yet another incredible and masterful performance from Ren and overall, an absolute masterpiece... again! :)

@@garychap8384I’ve looked and what you see is he pulls the hood off, but his arm goes up to drop hood behind (by camera) then brings arm/hand down. I think the movement you think is his hand going down is the bag dropping.I’ve played in slow motion, his hand does only come down once after bag dropped.

Poor Jimmy; he had so much potential and it was frittered away solely in the pursuit of money and power. At the end, his health has suffered and he is left, despairing, to put a bullet in his brain. Even when he’s dead, what has he created (nothing), and who even will bother to remember him, let alone mourn his passing because he had no time for relationships. Thanks to his upbringing, he was a man of no substance, an empty vessel, who lived a joyless life.
And so the cycle continues..

Little bit like "Matrix" and Ren is having the "red pill effect" in front of the mirror...
REN considers this song as his best on the CD. A lot of hard work went into this one. It was almost done in a one take but they had to do that as another one shot for when it started raining. REN is just a sponge with the knowledge he has and that sponge keeps sucking up facts on any topic. He is one of a kind!!
First time watching you and loved this reaction! Hearing you picking out different elements of the first two was awesome. I love how Ren weaves a story across many songs and you can hear elements of one thing in another. Outstanding.

One thing I don't see mentioned in the comments is the metaphor of his dad in our lives. His dad is the "voice" of this society we live in, our neighbours, close and distant relatives, friends etc. We need to be wise as Ren says in the end, to filter out these voices that push us to be part of this money game.
Maybe it's a stretch, but this is my take on this whole story. This is the only solution Ren proposes, but it only works for individuals: be wise, cherish your relationships, nurture the kids so they don't become "sheep", and don't let the expectations of your community/society drive you to Jimmy's end. Money is not inherently evil, but people are stupid one way or another. Money is only a tool to achieve our goals, it shouldn't be our goal to have more money, else you will "take more from the cookie jar than you need" and forget why you even started. In my eyes being wise in this context means to always remember stories like this so you know when to step on the breaks and take a look around you.

He is amazing storyteller. You do get locked into the story but its also true story real things. He believes in people. I watch one of his interviewers. He believes we can be better and do better. He is very smart man. He knows his history and economics. He is teaching it in his music. I agree with you about too.

Yeah, just like Money Game 1, it's a live music video. The album version sounds very very different. His broach on the lapel of his suit jacket had a hidden mic. He also said there were a ton of ambient mics disguised everywhere. He said mastering and mixing this video was a complete nightmare.

Such a damn shame is how he ended Jenny and Screech's tales which is what led me to believe that this was Jimmy's end. The call backs to some of his other songs. I have watched this over and over and find something new each time! He's a genius!
