    I’ve got a 47 John Deere myself, it fired up after sitting 15 years before I purchased it!! I’m in the process of convert it from 6 to 12 volt , going through the mag and a few other things then putting that popper back to work doing some small jobs on the ranch, can’t wait ! It’s of the some vintage that I learned how to plow with as a kid some60 years ago !

    • @TractorHoarders
      @TractorHoarders  Před 3 lety

      In the Champion line, I believe there is the D16, D21, D23. Maybe I missed one. Some people have good luck with them. I also have a 1948 B and it would continually foul Champion D21s, but the Autolite 386 would work fine. Always thought it was odd how they could differ like that, and I wish I knew the difference. After that, I have been putting Autolite 386, 3116, or 388 in most of my old tractors.

    Just found your channel. Great tips. Love your barn find. Our family ranch has a model A tractor. Actually two. I believe one is a 1949. I don't know about the other and it does not have a starter. I've not had any luck starting it and I believe the fault lies in the magneto - no spark. The one with a starter has been my go to tractor for mowing and hauling. You've taught me a few things I did not know about it. Like the electrical system is 6 volt. The starter recently burned up. We've been using a twelve battery, not good. Now I know to use a 6 volt.

Blocked the wheels with lumber and closed the tailgate a chain and home to use it pulling stumps n trees . All cut with one n two man handsaws. Axes for felling. I learned on the job. I don’t care how long one of those JD model A’s sits. In most cases with some TLC they will start and run. Bought one some time ago that sat for 20 plus years. Changed the fluids and spark plugs, cleaned the fuel system and had it up and running in half a day. My was a 1937 with manual flywheel start, that one looks a bit newer.

    • @TractorHoarders
      @TractorHoarders  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey, that wasn't too bad on yours either then! I agree, these are excellent machines and as long as they weren't left with water in them for the block to crack, they are reasonably easy to get going after sitting for a long time. I like the older unstyled ones like your '37 too. I would enjoy getting one of those in the future at some time.

    There is a John Deer A on the ranch where I grew up that I believe is a 48 or 49. It still runs great. However, one time we were pumping water via the PTO with the tractor sitting at a side angle. I suspect it was low on oil because after a while, the PTO seized. Though the tractor runs to this day, the PTO won’t move a millimeter.

    • @TractorHoarders

In some aspects I've grown, but I do grow and improve with every video made. Sometimes a question I have to answer for myself is .... am I focusing on making a video and accomplishing something? or, am I focused on accomplishing something, and also making a video? The answer to that quickly defines the quality of the video being made. Hope you may find some other videos on my channel you like! Thanks!
