“You’re no fake, you’re a genuine idiot!” “Thank you.” Priceless.
"sorry old man, keep trying" such a good line
This scene is so intelligent. Funny and genious at the same time!
The "Thank you." To the genuine idiot comment always made my dad and I laugh. Good memories. Great film.
Cary Grant is such a great and gorgeous actor and comedian.I am always smiling when I watch this scene.
The woman Cary Grant sits beside at the auction was Paula Winslow. She was famously known for the voice of Bambi’s mother.
What a juicy movie tidbit! Thank you.
Any other film maker, especially today, would've had Roger Thornhill trying to fight his way out of the situation. Hitchcock actually uses the auction itself as his means of escape. That is the stroke of a brilliant film maker
Sometimes I feel like the technical limitations back then, actually inspired more creative and innovative filmmaking. I am afraid that the modern accomplishments such as CGI etc. are often just used to save time and money instead of making more original films.
That was the screenwriter Ernest Lehman, with an original screenplay! Just superb. Bernard Herrmann came up with the musical goods, in the score. Both just fantastic. Hitchcock's direction made the trio, because he was superb at pacing (one of the things he took from Buchan's 39 Steps: the quick transition from here to there making a film).
@@annewagnera7567...as did the censors for what a man and woman could say and do on screen. Watch the scenes in the dining car and Eve's berth. I rest my case!
"im sorry old man, too bad keep trying" lmao
I just love the look on his face after he asks if it's a fake and it cuts back to him and he's just sitting there.
"You're a genuine idiot."
"Thank you."
Lol
Great scene, and a good technique to remember if you’re about to be kidnapped in a public place. Again.
2:10 I love the auctioneers face: "Oh dear" 😆
Lol. Me too. This scene is very funny.
"Thank you."
This is one of my favorite movie scenes ever. Just so brilliantly written.
This scene is so funny. Who knew Alfred Hitchcock could be a funny man
Nicole Newsome Ernest Lehman wrote the script. I agree, very, very funny.
Nicole Newsome my best ever Alfred Hitchcock film . I agree very very very funny and hilarious.
Who knew Hitch could be a funny man? Everyone who has ever watched the movies and TV shows he produced. There were humorous scenes in all except the grimmest.
@@christianestrada3267 when you watch the whole movie you will understand.
@@christianestrada3267 Funny like he's a clown. He amuses me. He makes me laugh. He's here to f**kin amuse me.
“Thirteen dollars.” LOL
“I’m sorry old man. Too bad - keep trying.”
I laugh every time I see this scene.
now this is what i call cinema. old and new things are cool but this is just awesome
My favourite scene from the film.
One of the best scenes ever!
Agreed!
Sorry old man, better luck next time
Norm Appleton lol
Perfect scene, brilliant writing, directing and acting.
Roger: "Mega 2500"
This quote made me suffer from laughing.
"Make it 2500"
Can we categorically say this is the first action comedy?
What took you son long.... best comedy actor ever
That suit was the real star of the film.
They cut Bernard Herrmann's rejoinder to "Sorry old man, too bad, keep trying!" You want to sell this movie? INCLUDE BERNARD HERRMANN!
I love that. 13 dollar................. rofl
It’s what I have always wanted to do in an auction lol
Lol. What! You mean shout random amounts of money? Lmao.
This movie is the best movie of all time
Wilson Yeap no it’s not
God, people need to stop saying something is the best ever just because it's old...
@GameDjeenie That is not the reason at all
@Dudebro thanks
@@GameDjeenie It's just the person's opinion, man. Relax.
Hitchcock did scenes like this in at least two other films--"The Thirteen Steps" and "Torn Curtain". In the former, the hero gives some nonsense speech to a group of people to buy time to prevent the spies from getting him. In the latter, Paul Newman yells "Fire!!!" in a crowded opera house to cause a stampede of people so that the police are overwhelmed from catching him.
39 steps.
@Tony Sutherland ... Thirteen??? And you're subscribed to Mathologer too. Oh wait - you're also subscribed to religious channels - that explains it. They believe that one equals three.
You forgot the best part leading to this scene! 😝
This is my favorite scene
01:53 I’m Not Going To Let You Get Away With That That’s Unfair
One if my top 10 films of all time.
"Ask him to leave" 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂
He purposely make himself look like a fool.
I inform everypeople who write here"Hitchcock was a funny man because this scene is funny"...that he had a english great sense of humour BUT Ernest Lehmann wrote the script and most ideas of this movie...So he was a funny man too. Please read the story of the making of NbN⬆️⬅️!
So?
@@nicolenewsome4863 So?Most part of people think Hitchcock create every story of his movies..Thats wrong!
Um dos melhores filmes de todos os tempos. Alfred Hitchcok, um mestre do cinema.
I guess the general from War of the Worlds (1953) got demoted quite a bit since the invasion!
You nailed it...the GREAT Les Tremayne - a mainstay on old time radio and TV shows like Perry Mason! One of my favorites! What a Voice !
The lady sitting next to him is totally hot
Priceless
god I love how he F----s with them. They got him drunk set him up, tried to KILL him, and he shows up and opens fire at their elite event. I would have done the same. As long as I were alive I would have harassed Van Damn and his bodyguard, and NOT go away! hahaha, I would have kept it up, harassing him and his bodyguard head on, over and over again! hahaha! Go Cary Grant!
His character of Thornbill is the most charming character I've ever seen on film, though I've to admit I haven't seen many movies.

“Hey don’t touch me or I’ll sue-Crap! The cops are here to arrest me, what should I do?”
*Commits Aggrieved Assault*
such a groovy movie
Sorry old man. Keep trying. 🙂🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
13 dollar!
N by NW contains a factual error. They wander thru the woods and happen to find themselves on top the Mt. Rushmore. It takes at least an hour to hike to the top of that mountain, even by experienced hikers. More movie dramatic license. The faces were big mockups built on the MGM backlot.
02:18 3000 I Bid 3000
And let's see who are the real genuine idiots ?! He He! Ciao and Ole Ole and Ciao!
I have 12 who'll say 13.......13 dollars.....HA HA HA HA HA !
You drop it away
Beyond compare
Touch me again I’ll sue you uhh oh the police then hits the guy 🤣
classic
imagine if he won the auction LOL
He purposely say all those thing
I did not understand this film,my mind got confused, now I feel dumb and suicidal.
Watch it again or read the storyline on Wikipedia to understand fully, it's a fun movie

Who wants to watch this shuffled up MESS of clips?
What a WASTE of time AND a joke!
What's the point?
Thanks for NOTHING!
You're welcome...
All those precious white people in the auction room to buy antique stuff coming from the estates of dead rich people. If this was real life this scene would probably be the most exciting thing ever to happen to them.
Go back under your bridge you troll.
Hey rich folks can have a surprisingly adventurous life, though for most of them I do agree.
jesus this is bad
