  • Comfort. Space. Luxury. Technology. Oh yeah, and a 5.2-liter V10 engine from Lamborghini. Now really, is there anything more you could want? The 2007 Audi S6 offers it all. The only thing its missing is Megan Fox in the back seat. If she heard the noises that the 5.2 liter V10 engine makes, hell she might jump in! When you APR tune it and add an exhaust, the 2007 Audi S6 turns into a 450 horsepower luxurious animal.

Just bought one for my kiddo. We bought it with a known oil leak. It was what we thought. Cost about 2k to fix. Mostly labor as they had to pull the manifold. Super sweet car! I had a V10 R8 and this is much more comfortable to drive. We also have a super clean wrap on it!

wanna add a correction for ya as a V10 S6 owner myself -
The 5.2L is a very separate motor from the 5.0L gallardo V10, a distant cousin at best. HOWEVER, as lamborghini is a subsidiary of volkswagen, the later model 5.2 lambo V10's are mechanically IDENTICAL to this powerplant. The result? You can safely say that this S6 engine inspired the 5.2L lambos. The only differences at that point are forged internals and forced induction for the lambo 5.2L.
The S6/S8 made the lambo 5.2L V10, not the other way around :)

Some caveats about the C6 S6 though. The fancy intake manifolds do in fact fail then the internal flaps no longer work... that's around 2 grand to fix. The direct injected engines also get that lovely carbon build up so you get to clean them... to the tune of 1200-1500 at most shops. Steering column module failures were sort of a C6 A6/S6 thing as well. And the final and most notable buzz kill being the potential failure of the timing chain guides. Granted, it isn't as common on the V10 engines as the V8s from a few years earlier but I've seen more than one suffer this failure now and it costs more than the car is worth to repair at most shops. The most important thing to understand before going into ownership is that Audi stands for Actual Use Devours Income. Dealer part pricing is nothing short of insulting and in general, Audi's support for it's older models is almost criminal in the USA. You'll very quickly start playing the "NLA" game and hunting for parts all over the internet. Audi might have the parts in Germany or in their Audi Tradition catalog online but they don't seem to want to sell them here.
With all that said, they are still cool cars that make nice noises while killing a tank of fuel in no time. The conventional suspension is actually a bonus as the S8 (and seemingly all air bag equipped cars) end up "sucking air" and needing major overhauls as they age. Bags are best used for groceries... ;-) Definitely do lots of homework before taking the leap on a cheap example. Service history up the wazoo is essential.

I purchased one of these 6 months ago with my sister and there are some important things to know before buying one of these.
To start, The repairs are extremely EXPENSIVE! Over 100,000 miles these cars fall apart.
We had suspension need replacement at over 4500, oil pressure sensor was about 2000 dollars to replace after it failed dumping all the car's oil. Additionally thr alternator went out which cost 3500 dollars to replace. Thr part alone is 2000 dollars. These cars also leak lots of oil. Timing chain cover oil leaks require engine out service which is several thousand and currently the oil pan is leaking which is a 2000 dollar fix. None of this includes the failed intake replacement at 2000 dollars or routine maintenance. 1500 for decent tires, 1400 for spark plugs (every 50k miles), 1200 for carbon cleaning (every 60k miles), valve cover gasket leak is about 1100 to fix and injectors and coils are also 2000 to replace.
These cars are incredible, but budget like 20,000 dollars just in repairs after buying one of these if plan to daily it and drive it hard. They're so expensive it is honestly hilarious.

Sorry to hear those extreme numbers... When I had 'friend mechanic' in my life, every mile was expensive and half of the screws were missing. Once he started a story with 3750eur for rear left calliper change, yea right, I fixed it for 8(eight) euros - calliper restore kit, one bag of orings. It was a wakeup call. Now I do DIY. I change susspension on each wheel for 135eur, valve cover gasket is 22eur each, each injector 60eur, oil pan I changed for 100eur, spark plug 20 bucks each, coil little more than spark, I carbon cleaned for free, it took 2 nights in a garage. I'm not a mechanic, I'm a 12V electrician. I watch how to fix cars on youtube, buy material and tools that I see on screen and everytime it worked, easily :) I run this car S8v10 for last 5 years cheaper than any audi I had in last 20 years. Maybe I'm lucky not to have any major issues. I drive a lot and I have today about 300k km on the counter and car fells rock solid and 5x more reliable than wifes A4 2016. You are right, they're amazing cars to drive, but they gets you scared when they need some service :))))

I’ve been contemplating getting a S6 but don’t want to deal with the increased maintenance and service costs. I do 75% of my own repairs and all regular service which saves me money but the cost of parts is still ridiculous on most parts. Guys buy cars like this for less than $10k but end up dumping thousands into service and parts. Biggest downside to the V10 besides maintenance and parts is that they’re not easily tuned for significant horsepower gains. Supercharging or adding turbos is the only way to get big power gains but that will cost $10k or more. The later Twin Turbo V8 can gain 100 horsepower with just a CPU tune.
