I'm INTJ with an ENTP brother, and I can guarantee that we talk like that 90%of the time. He'd pick an opinion (that he doesn't necessarily believe in) and act as if that's the right argument just to get an opposing opinion out of me. There's nothing more endless than a conversation between an INTJ trying to prove that they're right and an ENTP poking holes to prove that the INTJ is wrong.

I'm also an INTJ with an ENTP (younger) brother. We used to argue as little kids (somehow he managed to find and push all my buttons at once, lol). Though it never lasted long, because as an extrovert child with one sibling, he wanted me to play with him again asap. We were pretty much over it as teenagers, as we found we are actually best at working together. We find the same things amusing, and we approach collaborative activities (like video games) with different methods and perspectives, resulting in very effective teamwork.

What's hilarious is that people think we INFPs are the timid little pixies but I actually think our Fi-Te (FIGHT!) makes us a lot more likely to jump in the middle of the argument than the INFJ, all while our self-preservation system is sounding off internally, going, "What the hell are you doing??" XD When I heard that debate I found myself wanting to jump as the INTJ's wing...woman? and help take down the pro-authoritarian argument. Because that's another thing: YOU try telling an Fi-dom what to do. :evillaugh: And at least for me, that, "Excuse me, who are YOU to think you know best and to impinge on my freedoms?!" part is very likely to win out over my reserve.

Sometimes though, you just have to make a "rude" comment and that will ultimately do the trick.

I'm also not interested in giving someone an excuse to vent. I can't do anything about someone else's work problems, so I don't really want to hear it; it just winds me up for no reason. Pointless. I also assumed that when he asked me how MY day was, it was just form because he really didn't care, at all. Not one bit. So why should I ask him back? With my second husband, I do ask him back, but his stories are more interesting and he actually (at least appears) to care how my day went. Reciprocity.

Personally as an ENFJ, when I meet someone for the first time, I automatically consciously or unconsciously start studying them and I try to analyse their emotional mood or atmosphere. I am very sensitive to someone's mood. That includes someone not wanting to talk or open up about deep stuff.
I can pick up on that very fast (FeNi) without too many words and I will definitely back off!
I also have a certain pull towards introverts or the quietest person in the room. And I just sit quietly next to them. My Fe can easily mimic someone else's mood while my Ni (usually unconsciously not with a deliberate plan) analyses the non-verbal subtle gestures. On the surface, I am usually just minding my own business and probably reading a book or looking at the view of the place while the person-analysis goes on in the background of my mind.
And more often than not, the person will open to me ON THEIR OWN, even the introverts and even people I may not want to talk to. I believe it is my automatic unconscious FeNi mimicking of someone's mood.

INTP: This is so true. I remember going to my brother's wedding; so many people asked me to dance. They wouldn't take no for an answer, one of them even tried to physically drag me on to the dance floor. I wasn't having any of it. Then, toward the end of the evening the bride smiled sweetly at me and asked as politely as she good. My inferior Fe kicked in I guess, not wanting to turn down such a polite request. Everyone who knew me started laughing, and my sister began to film it. I couldn't make anyone understand that dancing in public is physically and emotionally unpleasant for me. After one song I had to leave and spent the next twenty minutes in a quiet corner, trying not to be sick.

see this is why I love being an ENFP because i can not dance- but also i don't pick up on when i'm either "being embarrassing" or just don't feel embarrassed (until inferior Si sets in later and then I overthink every detail and then critical Fe joins in which is always fun lol)- which i guess is how we can act to seemingly weird- we get wrapped up and don't see it from an outside perspective. Like i have defiantly pretended to be on an advert before (and my istj mum and friend tbh have both told me to stop). Anyways back to what you were saying- perpetual Fe trap sounds like it sucks- for me Fe comes out in a Te way so it's like "this is the correct thing to do at a wedding"- and chances are I'm the first one on the dance floor and then about 20 minutes later i'm in the corner having a philisophical convo with whatever intuitive introvert i've found.
Anyway I was trying to relate your situation to one of mine to empathise so sorry about the rambling. I’m sorry that happened people need to be more respectful of your boundaries. Maybe you could develop a signal that you need to get out of the situation. Or you could find a way to ease your own anxiety in the moment until you find a way out. Or find an extrovert to take over. I love how when I’m trying to give the Fe response it still comes out in a Te way

Things like dancing in public make me rely on Fe-inf, but my two leading functions are aware that I have no idea what I'm doing and begin to catastrophise every scenario in my head. Debating in public doesn't have this effect on me despite my self-consciousness, because Ti feels comfortable and in control. Well I won... I got 92 and he gave me that guitar 😏 then my dad kinda scolded me and him cause we completely missed the lesson...he was like 22-23 back then...now he is married with a kid... Now if I ever meet him again I will surely gift his kid a guitar too...
Fun fact : he already bought that guitar way before exams so it won't get sold out so I was gonna get it no matter what grade I got... As an ENTP, I have never done that, but I have been on the receiving end. My ESFP brother has several times told other people, my brother believes "x" is the best way to.... and I interject, I am like WTH, let me speak for myself. Seems like he is trying to do an argument from Ad Populum, as if he can't argue his point so needs to show other people agree. Something I have seen in Te users constantly, using "Appeal to authority" and or "Ad Populum" often. (the majority of experts agree with my point, or "x" expert can't be wrong because its an expert). If a view or argument is sound, should be able to be proven by itself. If you want to cite experts, show what they say, just the fact that experts "agree" with you shows nothing. The logic is what is important, not who said it. Even the most intelligent people, can be wrong, because everyone is wrong in something.
And also, I never believe anything can be the best way for anything, Ne keeps me open to all possibilities and I would never marry to one thing. I give all ideas an equal chance, but I see pros and cons in everything, so i can never truly say this is the most/best whatever. But that is why I can argue from all angles, I give everything a chance, but I also can see the flaws in all views.

But it's got a completely different motivation - it has nothing to do with proving a point, testing logic or exploring. For me, when I do this, it is solely for the reaction of my friend whom I am throwing under the bus. Kind of like a prank. This is peak cognitive function differences at play. Being an ENFP the ENFP meets ESTP situation reminded me way too much of how I met my former ESTP boyfriend... the accuracy

The ENFP was spot on! I did that today at the fabric store when a lady got done blue furry fabric. I had to find out what it was for. Then when she was in line at the checkout behind me I had to talk to her again! And then relate it to my project... And hope I didn't end up sounding like a weirdo in the process 😜

Catholic writer from Texas. I appreciate all the different personality types, with all the Catholic statues, images, etc. in the background. Also, I died laughing at the giving birth card.

As an ENFP, the INTJ-ENTP also put me in flight mode lol. But I am easily baited by ENTPs about less serious subjects (I once got into a two hour argument over the definition of "brownie edge" and what constitutes a brownie with no "edges")

Oh dear. Just remember ENTP don’t mean anything personal by this, they find these discussions fun. As an INTP, I kind of do too. Obviously you don’t enjoy that. 2 hours is a bit extreme even for my ENTP other half though. I’d have thought they’d get bored with it before that and change positions or topics earlier. Sorry you had a bad experience.

@@bennaustin6632 Sorry, but if this girl was willing to go two hours, why change topic? Our debating is for honing our own skills as well as determining how well reasoned a person's opinion on the subject is. It gives us insight into how they deal with people and an opposing opinion. Clearly Izzy here was very passionate about brownie edges, and that ENTP probably had a great time with her 🙃 Not saying it's healthy, but it's not pointless

My thoughts upon reading this: "I don't eat brownies so I have no interest in this conversation. ... But shouldn't the top count? Crust is an edge. Just sayin'."

Tbh, I really would love to observe an -power struggle- interaction between an ENTJ & ESTJ just to feel the energy (or see who better keeps theirs under wraps). Us more reserved types might learn a thing or two. 🖤

I am so glad you mentioned in your Q&A vid that likely viewers will connect with 1 out of 10 of your portrayals of a type. Years ago I went thru an evaluation and was a INFP. In this video the INFP's kinda matched me. I recently subscribed, until today not so much. But always enjoyable to watch.

I'm the ISFJ. This is so true. I can't just open up to anyone not even when I trust them. I don't know how people do it. I'd rather just deal with it on my own.
