    The water is getting colder and that means that shrimp lures are on fire!
    But here's the million-dollar question: what is the best shrimp lure?
    You've got lots of options...
    Gulp shrimp, Chasebaits Flick Prawn, LIVETARGET Shrimp, Z-Man EZ Shrimp...
    But in this video, I pitted the famous DOA Shrimp vs. the lifelike Vudu Shrimp.
    I found a hole in a creek that was filled with redfish on low tide so I was able to get a pretty fair competition going between these two.
    And to my surprise, there was actually a CLEAR winner!
    Which do you think won?
    Find out in this video!
    Have you used these two lures?
    Have any other lures you'd like us to test out?
    Let me know down in the comments!

As I mentioned in the video, I will be using a similar color for BOTH lures on the final day (the gold DOA's you see in the pack will be used alongside the "Golden Tiger" color scheme on the DOA that caught all the reds on the first day) Hope you'll stick around to see the final day of testing!

    I have a cheap amazon reel, a cheap walmart reel, and a cabela's salt striker reel. All have been in the salt water plenty of times. The Cabela's reel was in the water for over 48 hours because I lost it when a storm came up and I was hustling to get to an island for cover. That was Friday morning and I went back out Sunday morning and found it in about three to four feet of water. I shook it off to get the sand out of it and fished with it the rest of the day. No problems and caught some trout, a redfish, and a catfish on it. The only thing I do is spray them off with the hose after each trip. I have had these three reels for over three years and haven't done anything else to them. Thanks for the comparison for the two lures. I have only used the vudu shrimp one time and damn lizard fish took the tail off within a few minutes. LOL!

  • @Lees920
    @Lees920 Před 3 lety +18

    I'm not sold on your technique using the DOA Shrimp. It needs to be fished much slower. Twitch the rod tip up and not to the side, but give it time to sink back to the bottom. You are fishing it too fast. Also, all the reds you caught on the Vudu appeared to be caught in the same spot, within a 5 or 10 foot diameter. The only cast I could see on my screen with the DOA Shrimp was at least 30 feet to the left of where you were catching the reds. Never got to see a full retrieve of the DOA, just pulling it out of the water for the most part. It appeared you were fishing out of the 'hole' the reds were in. Hard to say from the video.

    DOA works great here in Florida for, Reds, Snook, Flounder, and Trout but not the pink one. Looks like he's using a pink DOA if he uses the same color as the VuDu it'll probably have different results.

  • @sloughsharkseh3307
    @sloughsharkseh3307 Před 3 lety +12

    Personally I use both, usually for bigger fish in fairly visible water I use DOA, since they have a more general, bigger profile. And the VUDU I use in clear water for usually smaller fish. I think conditions means a lot, even for subtle differences.
    Also, I believe the vudu is better for deeper, or faster moving water. And the DOA kills in shallow-ish slow moving tide.

    Great video Wyatt! Both are great lures, but I can see how the Vudu was better in this situation.
    DOA were originally created to slowly straight retrieve over grass flats. It’s a slow sinking lure so I expect the current where you were fishing took it downstream before it could sink where most of the fish were.
    I definitely recommend using the same color for the next test. I probably didn’t that matter much with the stained water that you and I both have (NC/Galveston TX), but it will take away some doubt from your viewers.

  • @darrellsheldon1394
    @darrellsheldon1394 Před 3 lety +12

    Hey Wyatt, another possible difference (other than color) is that voodoo is weighted and you are not using the weighted Doa. I have actually caught many more on DOA a than the voodoo in the past. This makes a marked difference in the drop rate towards the bottom where the fish are. Darrell

    pinfish will bite the tail off those vudu shrimp (which is a drag) also the DOA shrimp you actually need to pull the hook up and super glue it to the shrimp or it will slide down the hook after one bite and make the presentation terrible... but a few drops of super glue fixes that problem. Although i personally feel we should not have to do that to make a lure work correctly but it is what it is i guess, i like and use both lures but seem to learn towards the DOA because having to re-rig with the vudu after a pinfish bites the tail off is a drag. Great video thanks! Texas here

    I and many will report that when your DOA shrimp is torn up and the tail is gone, we remove the hook and hook through the tail remnant and it catches just as many fish. I believe the VUDU shrimp is superior though. The way it sinks and the tail action are a winner.

If you've ever done or seen a side by side comparison of shrimp lures in a swimming pool, VooDoo clearly has some of the best action of any shrimp lure. I've been using the VUDU Shrimp for years in Louisiana, mainly with corks. I've caught numerous speckled trout and redfish with them. Also, these baits are far more durable than most other soft plastics. Each one will last on many fish. The only drawback is the hooks, especially when you are fishing redfish. The hooks are sharp, but not very strong. So, also be careful when using pliers to remove hooks in deep-swallowed hooksets.

    Vudoo definitely gets me more fish. I only wish that tail wouldn't come off so easily. 1 lady fish and it's over sometimes.

    Try using the same color for a fair comparison, one is red or pink and the other is sand the same as the bait in the water.

    I have not had great success w DOA shrimp. About the only DOA products I like are the CAL 3.5 minnow ($$$$$) and the jerk shad.

    D.O.A. has a glow in the dark shrimp, does glow help in medium darkness ? How much does it help if at all ?

      It helps a little because of the tint more than the glow itself. It’s just a good color

    My only issue is the fact the fish are in one isolated hole. After a fish or 2, they get spooked and you're not getting accurate results. In my experience, the doa does better in light current situations. My buddy and I usually do test year round and very rarely use the same baits unless it's a clear case of the fish wanting one certain bait/color. That's lead to some pretty epic trout trips where we get dialed in pretty quick while others struggle to get even get bit
