One of my favorite announcers. I was born in 89 so didn’t see him during his career. But man. Super lucky to listen to Murcer, Kaat, and Singleton in the booth. One of my favorite Yankee broadcast teams.
Damn that Steinbrenner! I'm gonna say it.. forget the butterfly effect regarding position players who wouldn't have gotten a chance. Bobby Murcer deserved to be on the back to back Championship teams of '77 and '78!
i will never forgive steinbrenner (sp) for trading him to sf....i was 18 and crushed when i heard the news....being from south texas i didnt get to see him play in person until '77 when he was with the cubs and played the astros....
Possibly because bobby played for the Yankees during a time when the team stunk through no fault of bobbys When he returned to the team during the better days he was past his prime so many may have forgotten about him
I recently read an article about murcer that stated he was one of the great Yankee players of all time So I looked him up and although he was a good ballplayer he was hardly in that category. Definitely not a great nor a hall of famer
You have to understand that he was a shining star in a dark period of drought for the legendary New York Yankees… He carried himself with humility and honor, and was a clutch player. He later came back after years in the wilderness with other teams, where he was also much loved and came to be enjoyed by new generations. Being heralded as the next, Mickey Mantle was too much to lay on a young player, but he, in many ways epitomized what we hope sport can model as heroic behavior. He was a fan favorite who carried himself with dignity and clutch all the way.
@@AndrewVOdom I'm gonna rescind my statement Andrew and you are exactly right . Mickey was my hero and although I was too young to have seen mickey in his prime I had read all the stories about the greatness of mickey . Bobby had a lot of pressure on him. Being an outfielder from Oklahoma like mickey and playing on some bad Yankee teams . Many people in the tri state area which is where I'm originally from had immediate visions of grandeur that hey we have the next mickey here . Bobby was a solid major league player who had power and hit for a good average and defensively he was solid. I also really liked Bobby as a broadcaster
Thank 😮you for posting this episode of Yankeeography,

Yes he did.
yeah, but without trading for Bobby Bonds and then flipping Bonds for Ed Figueroa and Mickey Rivers we might not have won those 2 championships

Actually it was the Giants he played for

If Bobby had gotten into the plane with Thurman, he might have gotten killed
Why so little likes of Bobby

He was loved by so many. I couldn't wait when it was his turn to bat. He is still my favorite Yankee.
