    There are some misconceptions on what it takes to be a Freemason. Some think you CANNOT request to join - that it is by invitation ONLY.
    But here in Mississippi in the USA that is not true. In fact, WE CANNOT ask you to join!
    Here is more information about what it takes to join the freemason.

    I think one thing that should be added is find out if the lodge you are thinking about inquiring to join isn't clandestine. Also, you may want to add a link or make a video on where people can find their local lodges.
    Keep in mind, newcomers most likely don't know about the clandestine lodges.

      From someone who is already in, Supreme President/Chief Executive Officer sounds super super off.
      Thanks for the share.
      BTW, I've heard of some horrible stories with people joining clandestine lodges. There was one I heard of where they make you do a stupid amount of push ups and other stuff when you join. This one guy had asthma, and died because of it.
      I heard of stories where some lost tens of thousands of dollars to fake groups.
      For my understanding, this has gotten to the point of being a serious matter, and I wish there was some legal action against these fake groups. At least the ones that mess people over

      +Craig Bennett II being raised in a Canadian lodge...I thought that Clandestine lodges were just here say... But after reading up about it, there is some major money grabs down in the states claiming to be affiliated with the Fraternity....In some cases there is a a grey area between PHA and Clandestine lodges.

    • @TheAIKnowledgeHub
      @TheAIKnowledgeHub Před 7 lety +2

      Tom Rice
      It isn't only here in the states, it is around the world.
      The thing I hate about it is some of them really give us a horrible name. Some are a sex party, and some are the satanic crap the nut jobs blame us of being.
      But as you said, most are simply a cash grab. I heard of 1 that the head hired his family. They make between 13 million to 300k a year per person and depending on their position. Obviously the lodges don't know any better, and some of the lodges actually have holes in their walls Sadly, the members even think they are masons because they never heard of a clandestine lodge.
      I'm floored on how things like this isn't highly illegal.
      Now to be clear, I don't have problems with the ones that are doing good things, and is treating their members good. Some of those in fact can become recognized. But sadly, the bad out does the good. Also as I said before, some don't even know they are in a clandestine lodge.
      I heard of some actually contacting the grand lodge of the state for some request because they thought they were a real lodge (and the GL never heard of them).

    Greetings again, haven't commented on a video of yours in a while, but a question for you: I've been told that a person should visit different lodges in his local area to see which one will be a good fit for him. How does one go about doing that? Just call up and say "hey I'm coming over", or some other more formal route to take?

    • @WhatisaMason
      @WhatisaMason  Před 6 lety

      Basically. Most jurisdictions have a list of lodges and their masters and secretaries. If possible I would reach out to the secretary and essentially say "I am wishing to petition a lodge for membership, but I know the culture in each lodge can be a little different, so if it is okay I would like to come visit and meet the members of your lodge and see if I am a good fit, like I am doing with other lodges." He'll then likely tell you when their next dinner is and invite you to come to that.

    Many Grand Lodges now permit bringing up the subject of Freemasonry, as is the case here in PA, however many Brothers are still uncomfortable broaching the subject, so in reality it is still 2B1 - ASK1.

      Saad, I have since that above post, been raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. You need to find out if there is a Grand Lodge in your Country or Province and contact them. It appears on this website that the UGLE sponsers a District Grand Lodge for Kenya, Uganda, Tanzinia and the Seychelles. Check it out: www.dgleastafrica.org/ As it is the internet I can't guarantee accuracy, but it looks legit on the surface.

    Have you done a video going over how much work it takes to be a Freemason? As in, how much daily time it takes to read what your supposed to read, memorize what you are to memorize, and how many meetings you are to attend?
    I ask this because I heard it's beneficial to get experience of Temple ritual work under ones belt. Freemasonry was recommend as a good place to start. The HOGD was also mentioned as being a good organization for this.

    • @WhatisaMason
      @WhatisaMason  Před 5 lety +1

      I've touched on it in some videos, but not one specifically about it. In Freemasonry you are able to chose how much work to put into it. Some jurisdictions may have other requirements that I am not familiar with.

    I am highly interested in joining the Freemasons. The thing is...even though I did a lot of research about it and KNOW that to be one you have to ask one, I happen to have a friend whose father WAS actually invited to become a Freemason. Anyways, as far as I know he and my friend had the chance to attend to an Initiation ceremony and what my friend told me about it is that only politicians, well known lawyers, highly skilled doctors, and other "higher society" members have the chance to join Freemasonry. So may I ask why only people like them get to do so?

    • @WhatisaMason
      @WhatisaMason  Před 7 lety +2

      There are a few jurisdictions that do allow their members to ask people to join. But no, the lodges that do the first three degrees, known as Symbolic or Blue Lodges are NOT invite-only. And, no, you need not be in a position of power or such to be a member, that would go directly against the fundamental teachings of Freemasonry. However, yes, there are invite-only appendant bodies, but you must already be a Master Mason, and perhaps other things as well, before you can be invited into those groups.

    I learned a lot about freemasonry when I was asked to play in the Shrine band. The band needed members and opened to the public for practice and non shrine event concerts like playing at nursing home. I was asked to join after the director could not make some concerts, so me being the only other person with conducting experience had to step up. When talking to them I got excited about joining until I learned that you need to be religious to join the masons. I feel bad because I am not really religious. The band needs new blood, but I think is going to end when the director can no longer do his job.

      I would argue that "religious" and "beveling in God" are not the same thing. You must believe in some form of higher power, a deity. Whether or not you go to church, study scripture, or any other "religious" activity is irrelevant.

    • @WhatisaMason
      @WhatisaMason  Před 6 lety +1

      I hate to burst your bubble, but men are accepted every day who never had a family member who was associated with the fraternity. If your Grandfather was well known (you can be "high ranking" and not be well known) then perhaps you might find a few men who would say "Oh, you are HIS Grandson, he was a great man and he'd be so proud that you want to join" - but none of that really guarantees that they will vote you in or not, let alone if you'll ever earn a "high rank".
      I keep putting high rank in quotes because, frankly, I have no clue what that is really supposed to mean. Was he a Master Mason? Past Master of his Lodge? A Knight Templar? A 33rd Degree in the Scottish Rite? Head of a local body in the York or Scottish Rite - head of the State Body, head of the International Body?

    I have a question?
    What's the difference between freemanson and illuminati?

    • @WhatisaMason
      @WhatisaMason  Před 5 lety +1

      Freemasonry exists, the Illuminati no longer does.
      A long time ago when starting up a fraternity was all the rage someone decided to start what became known as the Illuminati (it didn't start with that name). Then, in a rush to get more members, they decided to piggy back Freemasonry by recruiting Freemasons. However, the Illuminati was never a recognized masonic organization in any way, shape, or form. Soon, like within 10 years of forming, their leadership broke down and the whole thing fell apart. Since then the Illuminati have been dead and as a dead group it was easy for others to use their funny name and admittedly crazy ideas to spawn all sorts of conspiracy theories.

      No, I don't. All jurisdictions I know of have a residency requirement. In other words, you can't just vacation to a place, become a Freemason, and bring it back to Yemen. Never mind that, as far as I am aware, Freemasonry would be illegal in Yemen. As to that issue - I have no idea how you go about legally reforming your government.

    • @WhatisaMason
      @WhatisaMason  Před 4 lety

      Women should not be part of any regular masonic Lodge. Therefore, any jurisdiction that makes women Freemasons as if they were men, is irregular and should not be viewed as Masonic. This is very different from a group such as the Order of the Eastern Star, whose teachings are perhaps under the same umbrella that Freemasonry uses, but are very very different. Said another way, the OES does not make women Freemasons, they make Eastern Stars...

    • @WhatisaMason
      @WhatisaMason  Před 5 lety +1

      The Illuminati were spawned by some men who, seeing the explosion of fraternal societies during that time, wanted to form their own. When membership became an issue, they used Freemasonry as a place to get new members, touting it as some sort of progression beyond Freemasonry. However, Freemasonry never acknowledged the Illuminati and, in just about 10 years, it died off and no longer exists.
