Just about the most perfect Hollywood schmaltz.......the tune is a tango one, the story is set in Paris full of Russian emigres and aristocrats, the director is a German from Hamburg and its female star is Ilona Massey - real name Ilona Hajmassy, a gorgeous Hungarian from Budapest. But who cares - just lovely schmaltz.

@@pamltl.1968 I don't know who that man is I tried to find out but it's but it's lost in the sands of time how's that for Schmaltz when I was a teenager many many moons ago Ilona Massey had a 15-minute program on the Dumont network which was at the time on Channel 5 I guess I was about 16 years old and I fell in love with her she was very beautiful I'm sorry they never found the proper place for her or realize what a talent she was she didn't do that many movies and most of them aren't that good but she still has a few fans out here if you find out who that man is let me know daycare

Palestina, atual Ibicarai, um certo dia quarta feira, presumidamente agosto de 1942, Cine e Teatro Glória, precisamente às 17:30h. iniciava a projeção no único Cinema existente na região totalmente lotado. Nessa noite Frederico Maron o dono da casa de espetáculo estava como sempre trajando elegantemente pois seria exibido o famoso filme " At the Balalaika" que a época fez sucesso considerável nas praças de Itabuna, Ilhéus. Eu garoto neto de D. Elvira vendia na "geral" do cinema, caramelos, bombons e outros produtos da culinária da minha Vovó. O que não me fez esquecer esse dia, prende-se ao fato que no sábado seguinte dia de feira na Vila tinha mais de 10 pessoas vendendo cópia do tal instrumento, cantando e tocando a música Balalaika, que popularizou-se de tal forma que durou até o Micareme (Micareta). No serviço de alto-falantes CACIL sob o comando de Rodrigo tocava toda hora a tal música. Balalaika tornou-se no local nome de gente, de animais de estimação, bem como apelido. desse modo para mim Balalaika é sem dúvida uma das músicas inesquecíveis, saudosa, romântica e bela. this wonderful head piece ilona wears was made originally for jeanette mac donald and there is also one gown jeanette wore that they stretched lol to fit ilona who was a bigger gal lol. not they made it a big larger to fit her ilona was thin too but a larfger woman than jeanette was

I stormed u tube. Pity I could find any I of his songs he sang which I could relate to. His rendition of balalaika at the end of Nelson clip is superb.
