  • Get Conformal Coating here: (amzn.to/2r5XJck) Tutorial Starts at 5:00 - It’s that season again where my part of the world gets lot’s of rain, and that means MUD! Creek Crossings, Puddle Jumping and all sorts of spring/summer time RC Mayhem is about to begin.. and I want to help those who are seeking out information on waterproofing their receivers. There are several methods to get this task done (I speak about a few in the video) but todays experiment is with “Acrylic Conformal Coating". The reason I am using this spray is for the ability to protect my electronics from mud, water, and all the other weather elements that I may encounter with this truck. I am also using it for the dielectric, and non-corrosive properties it has. Another bonus for me is that is easy to remove, if the need ever arose. Also, instead of dipping it in a liquid rubber, it still maintains its original, clean look. The Radio system I am using in this film is the Futaba T4PX, and a paired receiver.
The Moo-Kleen Electronics spray I used I get at www.CowRC.com
The Rock Buggy I featured in this film was "Tango", a project I have recently competed by gathering parts over the years in various locations. Here is a build list if you are interested:
Rock Bouncer Cage (got it through a trade from my friend Luke)
    2 Savox SW-1210SG Waterproof Servos
2 RC4WD Bully 2 Rock Comp MOA Axles
2 Tekin 30t Pro Hand Wound Brushed Motors
2 Tekin RX4 Electronic Speed Controls
    2 Gens Ace 2200mah 3s Lipo Batteries
    1 Futaba T4PX Radio / 4 channel Transceiver combo
    1 Aluminum Skid Plate (Wraith)
Full set of 4mm Titanium Beef Links
4 GMade ZERO Coil Shocks (100mm)
4 RC4WD Ballistic Bead Lock Wheels
    4 RC4WD Genius Tires (2.2)
    4 Wheel Widers (12mm Hex)
The conformal Coating I bought online, through Google. It is called TechSpray Turbo-Coat Conformal Coating. This is not a sponsored video, just trying to aid in your RC ADVENTURE!
Here are the videos of my wife and I in California uveiling Tango, in a proper spot.. the Desert Rocks of La Quinta Cove:
    Part 1: Pinky & Tango: • PiNKY & TANGO in the S...
    Part 2: Pinky & Tango: • PiNKY & TANGO in the S...

I am in the process of getting a couple RCs going and had an idea for them, but waterproofing and fitting the "waterproof" setup in the RC was challenging. Watching this video has for sure helped me. In true Medic fashion you are teaching and inspiring RC enthusiasts. I have been using conformal coatings for some years now, I learned the use of it from another youtuber Flight T$#T. There one of the plane gurus used a 10gal fish tank to prove the theory of waterproof coatings. Great video as always Medic.

Thank you for the video. As a note, dielectric does not mean non-conductive. It means it does not carbonize as much when electricity passes through it. And using a heat gun to speed curing of a product can cause the surface to cure much faster than the inner portion which can lead to cracks which might defeat what you are trying to accomplish with water proofing.

I just used a couple coats of Rust-Oleum spray leak sealer, because it was cheap and available near by. It is basically a rubber spray. I used painter's tape to mask off what I didn't want the spray on. Once it dried I used a sharp blade when removing the tape so as not to pull off the sealer. I even used this method to waterproof a brushless motor by carefully disassembling the parts and coating the areas that would allow water into the case.

I'm using CorrosionX for this job. I bought the non pressurised container, so you can dip the entire electronics in it, it's probably the best way to be sure that everything is covered in a continuous layer of coating. And it really works, I sunk the receiver completely in water (except the antenna, of course) and everything was ok.

    • @TheRealRCSparks
      @TheRealRCSparks  Před 7 lety +1

Great advice! I have moved away from dipping products.. only as I find I cant always confirm all the air bubbles have been covered. They are sneaky and sometimes only appear after its dried. This method took me about 15 minutes? Best one i have used so far.. but time will tell

God advice love the rock racer, I noticed you still have the cooling fan blades on the motor, for scale looks you need to chop them off and add a radiator and electric fans at the rear of the buggy cage along with front and rear winches mounted on the cage with the synthetic rope linked on the axles so ride height can be altered for climbing very steep inclines.

I bought a "no brainer" Bec. Fantastic little bit of gear, especially for a grub like me. It has a trim pot on it, so I can't see how to waterproof it without going to a plastic container etc with removable lid for adjustment. I have set it, can't imagine I will need to adjust it, but what if my next servo has a different recommended voltage? So coating seems bad, but is there provision for ploughing into it with a screwdriver, then spraying over the top when I'm done?

I had over 100 hours of trail time on my scx10 and totally submerged . Never , ever had an issue . Then multiple other receivers done also , then spektrum went waterproof so I didn't have to anymore. $4 or $5 dollar bottle of liquid electrical tape from Walmart people , it will work and last

I cant get the r2006gs paired as s-fhss.. it blinks green but it never pairs up. When I hold the button it flashes red. I do have a r2008SB and the stock RX paired up fine..Any ideas?!

I just use plasti dip and marine Grease for metal drive shafts, gear, bearings, and Axels
