(UPDATE: At first, we weren't sure if the bones we found were human. With the sun going down and the water rising, I brought the bones home that evening, treating them with respect. After some research, I got convinced they might be human bones. So, I called the police and handed over the bones, showing them exactly where I found them. The police were cool with it and thanked me. In the future, if I find something like this, I'll call the police right away. But that day, because of the risky place, rising water, and not being sure if they were human bones, I decided to take them home. Like I said, the police were okay with it and thanked me for helping.)

@@bibi-yo3leyes sir
I was a death investigator in Jacksonville in
1999. We had a human male torso found in a dumpster by a gas station along I-95. No skull or limbs. You may want to pass this info on.
That's pretty cool how the coroner narrated what he was doing. We all learned something today.
thats true, a neat touch from a prefetional
God, the comments in here talking about "disturbing a crime scene" and calling you out for collecting the bones. Y'all need to step away from the internet for a bit.
1) The area was going to be submerged in water soon and he didn't want the bones to get washed away before he had a chance to verify if they were human or not.
2) "You should have taken pictures!" HE FILMED IT. You realized you just watched footage that he took of the entire crime scene prior to the moving/removal of any bones, right? The evidence of the scene has been preserved. He even tells the police this directly, offers to give them the footage, and they thank him for it.
He did everything the way he should have. It's fine. If he had messed up, the police would have told him so, but they thanked him for everything he did. You guys really need to stop looking for a reason to hate on someone who's done nothing but good throughout his entire career.
Exactly!
@@dustinlange9759 you can’t make that assumption. Mark the scene. The bones have been there for a long time without washing away. Kudos on them for finding the bones, but it would have been much better to have left the scene in tact for investigators.
This is basically my worst fear when diving. Mad props for your bravery.
Was not expecting you to be here lmao
Bones aren't as scary as a living murderer somewhere out there...
Yall out here hating on him for certain things he does while CLEANING up the river and helping others, i dont see you guys out there helping people the way he does so let him cook
I know someone will be able to get answers from those bones and skull. Im so thankful you had found the bones and turnd them in to the right people:). You rock Jake
❤
No hates, you guys is greats! This was really shocking to watch…please please do not encourage anyone ever moving suspected human remains if found. You essentially conducted your own forensic investigation before calling it in. If there was any amount of flesh attached to the bones and you removed them from the initial setting they were found, took them home for a quick CSI superfan roleplay, then delivered them to the cops on a cafeteria tray…that’s a whole entire crime. No matter how respectfully you handled them. I don’t understand how this is any different. Curiosity is normal. It’s why we’re all here! And you guys are awesome at what you do. I’m just surprised and disappointed by the lack of awareness here.
yes they should have called immediately
Cops wouldn't have taken them seriously or called in a dive team. They would have chalked it up as a couple of you tube sleuths who are looking for views.
Reaths across America deserves some national attention Let's help get the word out my grandfather was a World War II veteran who stormed the beach in Normandy on D-Day. And my father is a Vietnam veteran and I'm a veteran of the Air Force. I appreciate everything you're doing . Thank you
Wreath
No matter what anyone else says if not for you guys those bones would still be rotting away out there, if there were more people like you out there we would have less unsolved crimes.
I agree!!
or more cold cases 😅
Amazing that your friend is a paleontologist. Great job. Much respect for how you handle it.
For future reference- if you ever suspect you've found human remains, please leave everything where you've found it and call the police immediately. Although you have opened this case, which may lead to someones missing loved one being located- you have compromised the crime scene, and it will make it very hard for investigators to validate any evidence they find from here on. i.e any marks found on the bones could've been inflicted by your team, meaning they cannot conclude anything they find on them as the cause of death
Hope this helps!
Rest in Peace for the person who's remains were found. The coroner said the individual was a small person. To think it might have been a child is heart breaking
I love the collaboration with paleo Chris and Bri! It amazes me every time I watch their videos, and they can pick up a single piece of bone and know exactly what animal from what period and where it's located on the animal! When I would look at the same bone and think it would be a perfect skipping stone! 😅😅😅
Went hunting a few years back and stumbled across some human bones. It turns out a dude went hunting in like 90s and never returned and that was him. They think he got stuck in the mud with his waders and wasn't able to get out. I find a bunch of weird things hunting like clothes or someone's gun and I'm certain its all hunters who got stuck and ditched what they could just to get out
Coroner was really polite.
Why nicer & chill then the older lady cop.
Great job in calling the cops. May I suggest next time just calling the cops as soon as you find them at the actual water so they can sieve and find all of the parts. Hopefully the police gave you some tips on this?
My first reponse when seeing this: Stop touching the evidence and call the police!
Ik they clearly said these are human and kept going. The water wasn't going to wash it away it'd been there for a while
It would wash away and all they said was they THOUGHT they were human but they didn’t know
Good they got it before the water washed it away
Advice from an anthropology prof: when you find a piece of human skeleton, STOP LOOKING FOR MORE!!! Call law enforcement immediately! Poking around in piles of rocks and stuff is potentially interfering with a crime scene. You really didn't want to remove those remains from the scene.
The marks on the bones looked a lot like rodent gnaw marks to me, but they were also packed with dirt so it was really hard to tell.
They likely processed the scene where you recovered the material as a recovery site. They'll try to put everything back together as best they can.
TY. I’m like why are you not calling the police right away!
yes ty i agree 100%
Yes,so stupid
I couldn’t help but think of the boys who stumbled on the skeleton on the shore of the Columbia River. It turned out to be that of a man who died 13,000years ago. He is known now as Kennewick Man.
if possible can you do a follow up video on this? would be cool to know if the police foud anything about who the person was and how log they had been there
It was cool of the coroner to talk with and directly to the camera when examing the bones to kinda give your audience a proffesional view of the video , awesome guy there man.
I must agree with some of the comments, never remove or take things from a possible crime scene, did you give the gun to police?
you know EXACTLY why someone would throw a computer into a river.
Voodoo ≠ witchcraft. Voodoo is not practiced in Mexico.
Wow as soon as I saw that blade/saw I wanted to cry I new it was a homicide... Praying that they identify who it is and bring closer if not to the family to the deceased themselves. Its amazing you found it when your paleontologist friends were with you and able to help. it was meant to be found. Please keep us updated!
Yea
Lol. Nothing they found confirms it's a homicide. And they contaminated a possible crime scene. No idea why they moved the bones amd cleaned them like that.
@@adammonahan687 the corridor said it was watch again 👀🤷🏻♀️
Yeah I would of marked the spot some how and called the police. Never ever touch human remains. It's a crime scene. And a gun close to the bones. And a bullet come on guys. Have respect
Ya know, finding sealed glass jars and then opening them, finding human bones… it’ll be YALL accidentally initiating a game of Jumanji. 😂😂
Exactly
Hey Jake! As a Kathy Reichs reader, here are my totally ignorant comments: 1. The recovery site shold be preserved, but the water was rising and I guess you did the right thing. I hope a forensic anthropologist has a look at it with low tide, to check stratigraphy, fabric etc. 2. Don't want to be morbid, but the state of the skull piece and the small fragments made me suspect the body was exposed to fire. The lack of hand and feet bones and of the ribs seems to corroborate this. However in that case the vertebrae should be recognizable, so I tend to agree that it could be a dismembered body. Anyway you handled it with respect, IMO. I hope you keep us posted on this sad case. And Jake, it's great to see you out and about again after the Titan scare! I hope you and Kendall are doing well
Think placing a marker for investigators to find is better than disturbing evidence that might float freely now that the heavier bones are removed.
Think they want to use a suction system to go through later for microscopic, fragile materials.
I keep thinking those jars may have contained human remains.
I would have left everything along, but called the cops immediately.
Me and my family have been doing the reefs for america for 3 years since my grandfather has passed. I am very glad to see this spreading. The ones that we go to every Christmas were the first ones. Thank you for spreading it. It really means alot to the people ! ❤️
i think you guys just solved a missing person or murder.
It still amazes me how big this channel has become.
The forensic student in me is screaming at the screen to tell you not to touch or disturb the site! The curious part of me wants to dig with you.
You guys unfortunately made so many mistakes in this video! Police should have been called immediately so that they could could do a proper exam of the site.
I came for the YT “experts” screeching demands in the comments.
lol
The Coroner was a cool guy
I thought so as well
I love how hes putting reefs on there tombstones so thoughtful!
Wreaths. Good lord, people. You’re like the 4th person. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Well, I got to say Jake, that was one great adventure. Can't wait for the next one. Love from Ontario Canada
Good you have a friend there who’s a paleontologist! 🤓
Thank you for what you do and thanks for reporting your findings. I hope this brings closure to the person's family.
Hey guys, just a word of advice, you can take or leave. next time you find a human set of bones. you are working on a crime scene. every thing you move can hinder anything the police may be able to do.
As long as the scene was documented by photos and video before things were moved its all good. Likely these underwater videos were better quality then a police diver could get. Law enforcement is not really equipped with good underwater cameras.
@@spongebobsqueeze Ok. Just trying to make sure there was no trouble on your end. Being a retired Volunteer Fire Fighter, I know a little bit of the care taken at scenes like that. I am glad however that the video itself protects you and yours and possibly helps some one get closure.
@@spongebobsqueeze Uhm no... Let's say for example a tiny microscopic piece of DNA trapped against the bone by mud has survived for the entire time the bones were stuck in the mud. Along comes a You Tuber who wants to film a more clear shot so he first handles the evidence and then washes it, thus destroying any trace DNA that may have survived. Or there are tiny bullet fragments that are still in the mud surrounding the bones (tissues rotted away but metal fragments survived trapped in the mud surrounding the bones), all now washed downstream or down his sink at home.
Finally, any possible evidence that is found is now attackable in court, defense lawyers will say the kid put it there during his zealous/excessive handling of the evidence and not some criminal. Destroying the integrity of a crime scene can completely collapse the ability to solve a case, so no it is not "all good".
@@arcamemnon9193 That sounds like a great scenario if it were possible for body parts or clothing to have been in the moving water so long there was nothing left but bones to have trapped DNA… but it is not. Your really reaching in this instance. If the choice is bring the bones you think are human or possibly be unable to locate them again, I would bring them. It is not like the police will spend time and continue looking for them if you claim to have found some you think were human and cant find them again. Unless it is a suspected crime scene related to a known crime in the area They will just give a heavy sigh, roll their eyes and think you are an idiot.
@@spongebobsqueeze Heh, being retired law enforcement I doubt I'd be castigated as you say but hey you've also got decades of experience to draw upon correct? The bones were in the mud and close together so chances are they lay where they fell and never washed away as many say here. Bodies do not degrade before sinking to the bottom in water. There is a period where gasses keep the body afloat, but eventually they sink to the bottom long before the flesh is gone.
Sediments in the water column will then slowly build up around the body and eventually cover it in mud. All this occurs as the body deteriorates, but cool water temperatures slows the decomp process considerably. So yes there is a good chance DNA or other evidence can be trapped in the mud surrounding the bones, unless of course you wash it all away upon recovery.
If you end up getting any further update on the skeleton please update us.
surely i wasn't the only one looking at that massive roll of carpet next to the bones??
The cornorer was very professional and handled it great!
I love the stopwatch letting us know what and when to expect something. Good job.
I didn’t want to go overboard, but I think it’s a nice suttle addition that’s fun
I swear people are sooo ignorant did anyone hear any of those cops say what he did by moving the bones was wrong or illegal? Cuz I didn’t. 😂 In fact the coroner literally said “I appreciate y’all’s help.” Good job Jake for finding the lost remains of someone’s family member I bet they would absolutely be ecstatic that you even found them at all and that you cared enough to make sure something was done about it! Half these people saying your an idiot for moving the bones have never got up off their butts for the majority of their lives to go out and clean trash out of the waters like you and your friends do, keep doing what your doing Jake!! Not a lot of people do what you guys do and continue to do it years and years later, I admire you guys courage and dedication, stay safe and blessed! 💪
Best comment.
I LOVE THAT THEY LET YOU RECORD THEIR PROCESS AND WERE SOOOOO KIND OF YOU
So sorry for the person you found, but how exciting to find something so important. Great video.😊
The female cop is rude for no reason 😂
She annoyed me so much
They can now extract DNA from bone, I sure hope they update you guys as they investigate. Great find and awesome video!
hey just wanted to say ignore these comments being negative you did not disturb a crime scene there was no evidence there that a police diver wouldnt have done the same thing and just collected the bones if there was any foul play with a sharp object the police will know by looking at the bones you did everything a police diver would have done good job man you brought closure to a family and now they can move on ps if there are more bones in that area the police divers can find them
It's less the stuff about disturbing a crime scene, and more about the fact they essentially disturbed a grave site, pissed about with the remains for content and views before calling the police and during all that, completely ignored the fact they were dealing with a PERSON.
Oh and even if it's perfectly fine to dig around and pick up the bones, they could at least have used gloves all the way through. That would have been easy since they clearly always carry them.
@@stigolumpy your not very smart had they called the police and waited the bones and all wouldve gone completely underwater by the time police arrived people like you have this misconception that if you call the police they show up withing no time and thats not the case cops lack of fast resonse time is a major issue
Crazy finds Jake, thanks for taking us along
Seeing the bricks speaks foul play to me... who throws bricks into the water unless they are weighing down something they want hidden?
😢 this is someone's missing loved one, and I'm sure they would appreciate the police doing their job in finding DNA and getting closure. You obviously stumbled upon a murder scene. Criminals usually throw away the murder weapon after the horrific crime they've committed.
I would not have opened those jars at all.
Thank you so much for what you do. I've been watching for years but have just recently showed my husband your videos and he loves them too! Sending love from Tennessee and hoping that these souls have rested easy.
it's a very good thing you filmed yourselves finding those remains. if it turns out to be a dumped body, any footage you got could be used to figure out exactly where things were before you disturbed them. hopefully it isn't anything so morbid, but you've at least done your due diligence in ensuring all information is available to the authorities
@27:32 that lady cop's demeanor was very obnoxious lol.
Yea, what a ray of sunshine she is
Why did that police lady sound so mad at you guys lmao
Aggressive for no reason too smh
Because they contaminated a crime scene. They knew it was human remains and they still moved stones all around.
@@XRPKINGS they found it and report it. Don’t see your point. It’s been there for decades through storms and whatever else been in the lake
If you're referring to the lady in the police section, she didn't sound upset at all. It was more than likely a mix of adrenaline and a whole sort of emotions rushing through. I didn't hear her yell at them, she was stating that because nobody in that situation is a true trained medical professional they can't positively say it's human and that's why they were calling the coroner to tell them if it was indeed human.
@@mistahsoul4077to me it sounded like she was freaked out and hoping they were wrong
Thank you as always for a new upload!!
Jake you and Kendall are literally amazing! I look forward to these videos each time they are posted! 🤟🏼

I can’t wait for updates on the bones case ❤️❤️
first time watching you since I was a kid bro so glad your still doing this!

What a shame these kids having find these human remains. Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
Definitely would love a update in the future if anything comes about them. Great video!
This might have been the coolest video yet, keep us up to date on this
That's wild. Hope you do updates on all of this. Great find.
Hopefully the police are able to get an idea of what happened, but more importantly, figure out who it was.
Look forward to update if the an identity is determined from the remains.

Please explain how they cleaned the waterway when they didn't remove any of the trash from the water.
Awesome work!!! Goosebumps from the very beginning!!!❤❤❤
Great job, hope they can help families find closure. Great to see you back 😊
Will you be giving any update on this situation in the future?
You know, if we cleaned up ALL the rivers the steel mills will be back in business. We've got to start somewhere. I began to magnet hunt for fishooks, ON and off the pier. and would finds hundreds over a weekend. Kids wade in there, you know....I might start doing that again now!
Very interesting. Keep diving and making great content!
Hello! Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you find comfort! Happy diving
How come you open bottles while still underwater and stuff floats away? Wouldn't it be better to open on dry land?
The one to me looks like a collar bone . The longer narrow one you found near the beginning. This is just a sad situation, however if it brings closure fore a family that is one positive aspect of it. Go out to have fun end up finding a body. You guys do so much good don't ever let the negative get the best of you. Stay safe. Guys.
Well done praying they get more information on the case.
Interesting dive, rather sad but also may help someone to get answers. Well done to you all great job. 👍
Plus the unshot bullet could be a bullet that was from the gun that was used. Then the saw could have been used after the fact.
Am I the only one who wants that coroner to have a CZcams channel? 😅
That would be cool
