    It's hard to make mistakes when you're playing as aggressively as humanly possible with mono red aggro goblins. If I have cards in hand I know I need to get rid of them.

    Our group does a 3 Hand Mulligan. Every player draws out 3 hands of 7, keep the one you like, and shuffle the rest back into your deck. Everyone gets a hand they like and no one has to wait for one person to mulligan.
    I would love to see this become the standard. It's so much faster, and no one is ever salty about their opening hand, and no one is down resources.

      My playgroup has tried a 10 card mull. You draw 10, then shuffle 3 back. You can mulligan only once, but it is free. It has also worked pretty well and is fast.

      I tried that with my group and it mostly worked well but the insane hands that we would get from that amount of selection lead to some serious blowout games. Still tho I would recommend especially for playgroups that have lower power games.

      Interesting. I think I might borrow this. I've tried a few versions of mulligans and they all still feel too long and chaotic. Draw 10 put back 3 works ok. If also tried starting with a blood, a clue, a food and a treasure in the center and can be bought for 1 mana.

    I like the point 'some threats can be left alone'. I have a Captain Sisay deck, that's a toolbox deck with tons of silver bullets that hard counter various strategies, and in that deck sometimes a clever player will ignore the pieces that are stopping opponents more than themselves and that allows them to save a removal for the thing I bring out just for them later.

    A tip on the "secret mode" segment:
    An opponent played lin-duls vault while using a very powerful combo centered deck.
    I was playing a mono-white deck and had path to exile in hand.
    Once the vault resolved (and the guy find the combo pieces he wanted to keep) I pathed his creature immediately and he had to shuffle the whole thing.

    As far as understanding your deck goes, I built a Muldrotha deck with a combo kill involving Volrath's Shapeshifter so complex it nearly broke my brain every time I tried to execute it. I still consider it my favorite combo, but I took it out of the deck because I didn't have an hour to go over the different lines before every game I played with it. I would often wind up not understanding how the combo worked and botching it all the time, even though I created it. Also, you could see it coming a mile away since it took three turns to execute if you only had Muldrotha on the field and an Entomb in hand.

    Totally agree that goldfishing should give you a really good idea of which hands you can keep. Moxfield is GREAT for goldfishing a deck and seeing how it plays the first 4-5 turns. When and how are you ramping, and how does that fit into casting your commander or otherwise developing your game plan? Goldfishing provides solid baseline answers.

    On Maelstrom Wanderer and player removal being the only option, this is why I think cards like Natural Balance should be embraced by commander players. Land balancing effects like this are very different to straight-up "destroy all lands" effects, and make for a more fun way to combat decks that ramp aggressively. The reason MLD is taboo is that it slows the game down to a snail's pace, whereas just reducing everyone's mana to a more reasonable level still allows for the game to continue, just slows it down similar to a traditional creature board wipe.

      Say you have protection from green and a planeswalker at 4 counters. Someone swings at you with questing beast and you dont/can’t block. QB specifically states that damage cannot be prevented, so you’re taking at least 4 damage from it. “Can’t” will always overrule anything else, generally speaking. Since you take that 4 damage since it can’t be prevented, they can also deal 4 damage to your planeswalker and it will die.
      Definitely a specific example above, but anything like a QB or a different spell that states “damage can’t be prevented this turn” will bypass your protection

  • @kukivave
    @kukivave Před 11 měsíci +3

    One thing with Tefferi's protection alot of people get wrong too, is, you can still "attack" the player. Whats cool about this is if you cast a spell that says "damage cannot be prevented" then you can kill someone who used Tefferi's with commander damage or infect as the "life total cannot change" is the only thing now stopping damage once you cast such a spell, since "protection" is considered damage prevention, anything that replaces the damage effect like infect, and anything that doesnt care about life total change like commander damage tracking, goes straight through. Also if there are 3 players and one player is goaded, the goaded player still has to attack the tefferi player if it's not the source of the goad.

      @kukivave Před 11 měsíci

      @@kennellfrederick4367 yeah no... this is a missconception of teferi's, you still exist, your library still exists... you gain "protection" from everything, protection does not stop attacks... anything that mills or manipulates all opponents libraries still work. If you cast a spell that says "damage cannot be prevented this turn" it still applies to the player whos in teferi's.... Alot of players get confused and think just because their permanents are phased out that they as a player are phased out too, but it doesnt work that way... Protection from everything prevents damage and the user from being targeted, but anything that does not target still affects them. The thing that makes it pointless to attack the player is that their life total cannot change and protection would prevent all damage. If another player is goaded, they can still attack the person who has used tefferi's they jsut wont do any damage.

    • @kukivave
      @kukivave Před 11 měsíci

      @@kennellfrederick4367 also the players hand still exists so wheel effects and non-targeted discard effects can cause the player to draw/discard cards.... finally the person in tefferi's can still cast spells that have zero cost (though they cannot use life to pay for spells as their life total cannot change).... one cool interaction you can do is cast command the dreadhorde, hold priority and cast tefferi's protection... Teferi's will give you both protection from the black spell and your life total unable to change so command the dreadhord will not deal any damage but will still reanimate all the creatures you selected.... those creatures will enter the battle field after TP has gone off so will not phase out.

    We call it Elkmander Damage.

    Another Major Commander Damage mistake is not counting partner commander Damage separately. Just like separate tax for each commander, separate commander damage for each commander.
    Enjoy that logistical nightmare. 🎉

    The real mistake is not having Ambers 12 land stax deck on moxfield.

    Stealing, pumping and flinging others commanders for game over commander damage is just so much fun, they do the work to cast it and you cheaply steal and fling mmmm 👌

    One mistake I see everyone make is playing white cards. I don’t like them, they are boring, and dumb people play white cards. That is four reasons right there

    I enjoy Mia as a cohost n I also didn't really agree with the sexuality, pronoun thing Cherries brought to the channel... way too political for a casual game channel, could turn a lot of people off.

      @@TonyScimeca why im on the subject of fascist PC culture in MTG, why df is it ok to race swap characters in lue of lore accuracy??? People wanted characters accurate to the lore in the books and movies, not racial equity (aka white man bad, sound familiar orange man bad). No we're not racist for wanting accuracy in our beloved IP's, we're just loyal fans who want to see justice for our Fandom. We have plenty of black representation in MTG, a ton of it actually and that's awesome. But it shouldn't come at the expense of QUALITY of representation. By doing all this woke bs WoTC is loosing fans/players in large droves. Loyal players of 20-30 years are selling everything and walking away, that's not how you keep your global phenom of a game going. As budweiser, target, and Disney have proven beyond any doubt... go woke go broke. Life your life how you want, be gay, be happy, but don't force it upon me or anyone else. Cherries, if you ever actually read any of this I hope your not too offended. I have been a fan of yours n have enjoyed your hot takes and decks. I just don't agree with the political bs in a card game. Beezy... lol I hope I'm right in assuming Mia is your GF lol. 🤣😎

      I hate how everything needs to be a political statement these days. I don't care what someone's affiliation or orientation is. It doesn't affect my life in the slightest. Shoehorning it in is just lame. Makes me wonder if Joe left because there was a disagreement with Beezy over some minor political thing.

    • @sarahbuck2506
      @sarahbuck2506 Před 11 měsíci +2

      Should Beezy never mention his girlfriend because that's injecting sexuality into a casual card game? Should Mia and Beezy never refer to each other in the third person to avoid ever using pronouns? Why is it only 'political' when it's a sexuality or identity you don't like?

    • @jokerES2
      @jokerES2 Před 11 měsíci

      Announcing your pronouns takes away any confusion.
      It's what we should be doing. I understand if you think it's "a lot", but not trying to interpret how someone's presenting is way easier than trying to figure out what someone is. Especially if those pronouns are easy and mainstream.
